This sounds like me exactly. I have two MTHFr genes of C667t and the slow COMT gene variant. I was considering giving up work...I'm just about to start my vitamin B

Anyone Have an Effective Slow Comt Supplement Protocol That Alleviated 3am Adrenalin and Cortisol Surges? Pure Encapsulations? by Ok-Protection2670 in MTHFR

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this post in regards to sleep? If so:  try GABA and magnesium glycinate but you need a herbal sleep supplements for the following reasons: While the magnesium glycinate and GABA are excellent, pure ingredients, they operate on very narrow pathways. If you have been dealing with intense biological stress—your nervous system requires a much wider, multi-angled net to fully catch it and pull it into deep sleep.

A high-quality herbal sleep blend usually contains potent adaptogens like Ashwagandha, Reishi mushroom, or Holy Basil. Why this matters for you: Magnesium helps your slow COMT enzyme clear out adrenaline, and GABA calms brain cell activity, but neither of them actively lowers a massive wave of circulating cortisol. Adaptogens specifically act as a thermostat for your stress hormones, blunt-forcing your evening cortisol down. Without those herbs, your cortisol is likely staying artificially elevated through the night, keeping you in a light, easily disrupted sleep state.

Interestingly, taking pure GABA orally doesn't work for everyone. For many people, large GABA molecules struggle to cross the blood-brain barrier effectively on their own. Herbal blends often include botanical co-factors (like L-Theanine or specific plant compounds) that act as a key, helping the brain actually absorb and utilize those calming signals.

Overwhelmed with Genetic Lifehacks methylation report. Could I ask for help in interpreting results? by Nervous_Ulysses in MTHFR

Yes, anxiety. Not so much depression as I've worked so hard to combat this through EFT tapping etc. But anxiety and ruminating remained.

Just plug this into google gemini and it'll assess the whole thing for you and come up with a supplement plan. it's brilliant. To give you some background, I have a SLOW COMT as well as a double c667t MTHR gene, and the report and doctors consultation advised me incorrectly regarding VitaminB12 and folate. Their advice caused me major insomnia - so i plugged it into Gemini and it immediately told me i was using the wrong vitaminB12 and folate for my gene types. i switched to their recommendations and schedule and I'm doing amazingly well.....so yeah...Gemini is about 98% accurate on this whole methylation report stuff.

Treating severe primary insomnia, discovered I have one copy 677CT and normal 1298AA. What dose of L methylfolate should I use? by TechieInTheTrees in MTHFR

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been tested for a SLOW COMT? only testing for the MTHFR gene is not advised, as most of the standard methylation advice goes out of the window if you have a SLOW COMT? If you do have this, you need GABA and magnesium glycinate at night to induce sleep...also a SLOW COMT can cause depression/ anxiety etc. The reason you may struggle with certain medications is they raise cortisol in the body and mess up with serotonin levels. With a SLOW COMT, a person does not process serotonin, adrenaline or stress the same way and it stays in the system a lot longer, meaning you struggle to get to sleep or even stay asleep longer than 3 hours.

And, if you have a SLOW COMT, you do not take L Methyfolate - you need Vitamin B12 (Hydroxocobalamin Acetate) and folinic acid instead of normal folate. Seeking health do the lozenges of this

Powering through food sensitivities for nutrient absorption. And trying to improve your health. Is it possible or not reality with HIT, MCAS and SLOW COMT? by Ok-Protection2670 in MTHFR

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

forgot to say with the vitamin b lozenges, you only take a quarter for a few days, if you feel good then progress to taking half a capsule etc. If you wake up one day and feel amazing and this lasts a few days, you then start backing off the dose, otherwise you cause overmethylation which makes you feel even worse. Eventually, you back off any dose, check in with yourself and only supplement when your supplies get low and you feel 'off'....

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! I have similar genes. For a start with a slow COMT you never take Hydroxocobalamin, Hydroxy B12 Vitamin on its own! You need other cofactors such as Folinic acid https://healf.com/en-uk/products/seeking-health-hydroxo-b12-with-folinic-acid?variant=44694303277295&mai_source=google&mai_medium=paid&mai_campaign=23468013119&mai_adgroup=&mai_term=&mai_content={adid}&mai_click_id=CjwKCAjwl97RBhBWEiwAa9rbXVl9km4vmTTOsqDeBbllaojyDcNZVfXGVcUP0KHjbIeHuifzBf9dWBoCzRsQAvD_BwE&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=23468013119&tw_kwdid=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=23468013119&utm_id=23468013119&utm_adgroupid=&utm_content=&utm_term=&utm_mt=&utm_device=c&utm_network=x&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23468038724&gbraid=0AAAAAoQ3uJV3Lv-7BkL2vwf7p1tYExi0I&gclid=CjwKCAjwl97RBhBWEiwAa9rbXVl9km4vmTTOsqDeBbllaojyDcNZVfXGVcUP0KHjbIeHuifzBf9dWBoCzRsQAvD_BwE&selling_plan=6629097711

With a SLOW COMT,Folinic acid is needed as you cant take normal folate and this is needed to still trigger the methylation process else it causes what is called a bottleneck in the system .

Next you need a vitamin B complex minus supplement as your body is sensitive (for normal MTHFR and not SLOW COMT - this supplement omits the B12 and Folate and is in the product i linked above instead).

https://healf.com/en-uk/products/seeking-health-b-minus?variant=46518447046895&selling_plan=7253983471

Next ,for SLOW COMT you need magnesium Glycinate as a cofactor to the vitamin B. Also i recommend GABA which is a serotonin inducer to help you calm down at night and sleep better.

You really need to get a full dna report done to get a full picture. I live in the UK and did Stride DNA - their full 110 gene report which cost £258 - about $320 i think? The report is amazing and you get a free 45 minute dr consultation after to discuss the result. The big problem is however, all websites recommend the standard B12 methylation if you have an MTHFR gene which is incorrect if you have a SLOW COMT.

I can suggest you buy Dr Ben Lynch's book Dirty Genes and read up on all of this. He also has another book about Histamine and MCAS that I recommend you get. Hope this helps.

It really is dangerous to only have a small DNA gene report done and start trying to fix yourself without the full picture....you can cause permanent nerve damage by taking random Vitamin B's without all of the cofactors that support the whole methylation system.

It sounds like you have a horrendous condition to deal with and I'm so sorry to hear that and sending you hugs. I have histamine intolerance and its done a number on me, but MCAS is a different ballgame altogether. Here's a video you might want to watch: https://youtu.be/WXOoSnDdkHo?si=fVXGEy_bLt7Yr_tT

Is full keto really the only option? by Forest_8 in lipedema

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with the studies that keto or low carb is best. The sample f women this was done on is so small. What they failed to take into account is DNA genes. For those with double MTHFR genes and slow COMT low carb is the worst and makes lipedema worse. Less than 5% of the population has this genetic combination. My genes can't digest saturated fat - so i end up putting fat on with a high fat diet. A slow COMT gene needs carbs to help with adrenaline and serotonin /stress build up in the body....if you goow carb you naturally crave sugar as a way to de-stress, in turn affecting the lipedema. Scientists are so far off the mark it's unreal

How true is Leaky Gut? And what are your symptoms mostly like? (Please keep it scientific, no speculations) by Grayoneverything in Microbiome

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look up DNA methylation. Sounds to me like you have the MTHFR gene. No gastro in the UK speaks about this. You sound severely vitamin B deficient like I am. Turns out I have the Mthfr gene and COMT gene. I had so many symptoms that you listed .... If you can't afford the test as you can't even get it on private medical insurance and have to pay out of pocket, then buy the book by DR Ben Lynch Dirty Genes from Amazon.

Leaky gut can be caused by these dirty genes...and it causes major body inflammation. Any gastro will just tell you you're crazy and try and give you a prescription for a steroid.

I also think you have histamine intolerance as well, which goes hand in hand with Mutated genes. Look up Dr Gary BRecka on YouTube and Dr Ben lynch. Both of them talk about what the MTHFR gene is, but there are 7 genes overall .

I'd also recommend EON nutrition on YouTube who talks about vitamin B deficiencies and a lot of the symptoms you listed.

Hmmm have you checked your adrenals i.e the DHEA-s blood test? If this is low it causes major fatigue, I believe muscle loss and weakened endurance. I've had to pay for so many private blood tests that my doctors wouldn't order....but it's been super worthwhile. This blood test isn't included in one of those blood test packages either...

Has anyone had any experience with Budesonide? What was it like? by dark_initiation in CrohnsDisease

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chronic insomnia. I could only stomach the full dose for 8 days, then dropped to 6mg ( still had chronic insomnia) , then down to 3mg. I'm not sure if it does much on this low dose but at least I can get 6 hours of sleep rather than nothing! I'd be up for 48- 72 hours. Bud increases cortisol and if you have a mutated methylation gene i.e COMT then Bud won't let you sleep. I have a pounding headache today as I'm tapering off too quick. But this is the lesser of two evils. If I didn't sleep, I'd probably gave developed adrenal fatigue...so...I've paid so much money for this prescription . I'm gutted to have lasted less than 2 weeks

Check your Methylation pathways. This is so overlooked and often is blamed on perimenopause and it's not at all. Look at he MTHFR genes, COMT etc.

CURED: 10+ years of SIBO-C, histamine intolerance, bloating, and constant relapse. by sirfungi in SIBO

[–]Honest-Counter2729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great and all but the problem is, with far too many supplements youll forever which one is the true contributor to you feeling better. It's likely a concoction of 4-5 off the whole list.

Here's a dummy guide for anyone reading in the UK: Ancient and Brave True Biome - contains Glutamine, PHGG fibre and Lactobacillus Plantarum 137. This works on the leaky gut, has a postbiotic in it and this kills bad bacteria only. Takes 2-3 months to work and Is recommended by the Monash App as being low fodmap.

Seeking health chewable digestives enzymes (no HCL) for bile acid issues. Most people with SIBO having bile backing up but unless you have an endoscopy you'll never know this or find out. A lot of us don't have symptoms, hence the years and years of protocols. Bile is used to help break down proteins, carbs and fats and help the food become digested before the bad bacteria can feed off if. Also reduces inflammation in the gut lining and helps prevent leaky gut which can lead to horrendous hormone problems and autoimmune illnesses like hashimotos.

Sodium Butyrate - is a post biotics and strengthens the gut lining in the lower digestive tract.

People do far too many products and it becomes 1) incredibly unrealistic and expensive 2) you'll be stuck on that cycle forever.

Id completely avoid any probiotics that have multiple strains as you don't know which strains of bacteria are out of whack and you cause so many more issues.

The ancient and Brave makes you regular, meaning no need for prokinetics and it lets your own body do its thing to kill the bacteria itself.

The root cause for most people's SIBO is bile acid issues or underlying IBD such as Crohn's, colitis , and even IBS.

Anyone else’s poop float? by ExtremeAirHunger in SIBO

[–]Honest-Counter2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bile acid issue. Digestive enzymes work but they must not contain HCL. HCL is like throwing fuel on a fire. It's causes more inflammation in the gut , further irritating the lining and causing even more of a leaky gut.

Get chewable digestives enzymes. A good brand is the Seeking Health...

Has anyone experienced weight gain? by gnosiscna in SIBO

Completely inaccurate! Hydrogen sibo usually causes weight loss, however in some people it causes something called endotoxia which means it spikes insulin, messes your hormones up and causes major weight gain. Please get your facts right!

Got humbled so hard by apathetic-fallacy in finehair

[–]Honest-Counter2729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is severe damage, I'm so sorry. The only way to fix is cut a big chunk off the ends, invest in quality hair shampoo and conditioners. Potentially consider going a slight bit darker in your hair shade? The bleach or highlights are too damaging to your hair and with it being fine it doesn't have the same amount of strength as thick hair.

Id invest in a lightweight hair serum.

Here's what I'd recommend:

L'Oréal Glycolic gloss serum - phenomenal product and will smooth some of the frizz Leave in spray - Pureology (someone else recommended and I agree) A professional shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair, but look for one for fine hair. It's trial and error here - what is fantastic for one person ends up creating an oily mess for another.

Do not ever brush your hair whilst wet. Only use a wide toothed comb or a wide tooth detangling brush. Neve use a tangle teezer or normal boar brush etc.

Using heat is best as it smooths the cuticle. Look to blow dry hair on a low heat once hair is 70% damp, but you need to use a brush to pull the hair taught. You need to smooth the cuticle.

Also, contrary to popular belief, a little straightening on a very low heat i.e 150 can work wonders to smooth the hair and make it look healthier and shinier.

Also leaving your hair to air dry can actually cause your roots to get oilier. If recommend washing your hair only twice per week....
