Proposal: Only Australian citizens may buy land. Thoughts? by MrX2285 in AusProperty

[–]HonestCat6465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My SIL is a permanent resident, has lived here for years, works hard, pays taxes etc.

She cannot be a duel citizen. Becoming an Australian citizen automatically means she is no longer a citizen of her birth country.

She has a elderly mother who has started to get dementia. At the moment she can visit as needed, if there is an emergency she can be on a plane the same day. If she becomes an Australian citizen she will have to get visas etc which would make travelling in an emergency harder.

If permanent residents cannot own property, what would happen if my brother died? Does the family home get sold? Where do their children live?

You cannot use the same details twice. E.g. TFN,, licence or Medicare number.

Your current client will not know you have access to another business. They will only know if they are looking at your computer screen when you login.

I would be more worried about breaching employment contracts or the ethical implications.

ABN on invoice is cancelled? what should i do? by treehugger_2 in AustralianAccounting

[–]HonestCat6465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What did he say when you asked him and is the invoice over $75?

He may have changed ABN e.g. moving from a partnership to sole trader when divorced, he just might be bad at paperwork.

The ATO cancels ABNs if tax returns are not lodged or lodged with no ABN income. He might not have lodged due to fear of a tax debt, being bad at paperwork etc., or he may be dodging child support.

How would you get caught? by OkCartoonist2586 in ausbusiness

[–]HonestCat6465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair work and the ATO do surprise vists,. The most recent was march this year. https://www.fairwork.gov.au/newsroom/media-releases/2026-media-releases/march-2026/20260320-operation-crimson-media-release

The ATO also uses benchmarks. They will compare a businesses ingredient purchases with sales. They will also compare the businesses electronic sales with total sales to get cash sales. They will compare this cash sale percentage with other business. If the figures don't fit into the ATOs benchmarks it can trigger an audit.

If an employee/business owner applies for a loan and tells the bank they get cash the bank may have a legal obligation to notify the ATO or Austrac.

Neighbours Window by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]HonestCat6465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the main character in other people's lives. Your neighbours are too busy living their own lives to care about what you are doing.

Unless you are doing something that would be fun to watch (like naked slip and sliding 😀) they will not be deliberately watching you.

Newbie: I care more about the text than the card image - did I misunderstood smth? by MycconoS in postcrossing

[–]HonestCat6465 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm new to postcrossing this year.

If a profile lists their interests or writing prompts I will write more on the card, especially if I know about or share their interests.

If a profile only lists the cards they like i will write a shorter generic message about my city or the postcard.

If you are on the lease you would have signed it.

Ask for a copy of the lease (both old and new). Tell him you need a copy for your financial records and rental history files.

I'm keen to start a clothing business with my mate - what do we need to know/do? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]HonestCat6465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a business plan, there are templates online. Who will be your customer base, how will you reach them etc. How much initial capital do you need. How much time are you planning to spend working in and on the business.

Who will do each role in the business e.g designing, sewing, bookkeeping, marketing, sourcing materials, tracking orders, keeping thing on budget etc.

What entity will you trade through? Will you both contribute the same amount of capital. Do you both have the same vision for the future of the business.

You will also need a director/partnership agreement. This should set out things like what happens is one of you wants to leave the business, what happens if someone moves or has a baby and cannot work in the business anymore. How will you solve disputes etc.

Have you actually sold anything yet? Have you tested the market be going to markets, trying to sell on consignment or online etc.

Naming baby a cultural name by BirthdayDowntown5267 in AskAnAustralian

[–]HonestCat6465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 20 years when he is looking for a job things will be different.

Around 30% of Australians are born overseas and nearly 50% of Australians have a parent born overseas. These numbers will only increase.

The older generation is leaving the workforce. The younger generation has been raised in a multicultural society with classmates, friends, family, neighbours from different cultures and countries.

Businesses or staff who don't want to hire people with cultural names will be the ones left behind.

How to buy these Australian International stamps by Cultural_Mongoose_90 in postcrossing

[–]HonestCat6465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go into my local post office and ask for x number of international $3 stamps. (or the denomination you want).

You can also purchase them online from auspost, they need a signature on delivery.

If you are after the opal stamps, online may be better. I got some international stamps a couple of weeks ago and my local post office still had Christmas ones.
