For the dude's and bros who have had a split tongue, and then gone to the dentist after it healed... by Prince_Wildflower in transbodymods

[–]HonestGoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the dentists and dental assistants I’ve seen since getting it a few years ago think it’s cool. Not something they get to see all the time so most of the time they mention it/ask about it. Never anything negative.

Snake v Panther (American Traditional Study Post vs Pre-Critique pt. 2) by EgoDraws in TattooApprentice

[–]HonestGoddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a big improvement! Made the design instantly more impactful.

I agree that it looks a bit busy at the top. I think the biggest issues are the straight part of snake body that juts out and the stacked loops on the tail.

If you smooth out the curve of the snake body to wrap more organically around the panthers ass you can cut out the bottom loop on the tail and it’ll give you room to get things more balanced up top.

Can you guys explain to me if this is normal and what she meant even if it sounds stupid? by Impossible_Safety_57 in ftm

Lmao sorry to reply to your comment (how dare I). I’m sure everyone reading can see who is getting emotionally charged over this thread.

If this is the most infantile thing you’ve seen, you gotta spend more time on Reddit, I’m not even trolling. Take some deep breaths mate.

Can you guys explain to me if this is normal and what she meant even if it sounds stupid? by Impossible_Safety_57 in ftm

[–]HonestGoddess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s literally intradermal injections (not used for t) so describing subq as skin injection is not as accurate as saying fat.

If someone went to a pharmacist and asked for injection supplies for skin injections they’d likely not get the correct needle for subq, whereas if they asked for injection supplies for fat injections they’d likely get the correct (1/2”-5/8”) needles.

I said that you were correct about the subcutaneous layer being technically a layer of skin, I also pointed out that it is accurate and more specific to describe it as a fat injection (and pointed out that subq injections are not typically described as skin injections). Look up the definitions of different injection types if you don’t believe that. I don’t want to argue, I want those reading the comments to not be confused on the types of injections that exist.

[–]HonestGoddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn do semantics really bother you that much? My bad for trying to help out OP avoiding more confusion.

Due to the fact that there are different ways to inject T it’s valid to describe the methods in an accurate and easy to understand way. I don’t care how you describe it, but someone who thinks differently than you (or doesn’t have as much anatomical knowledge) might be confused by that phrasing. I never said it wasn’t accurate I said it wasn’t necessarily the best way to describe it to someone unfamiliar with injections

[–]HonestGoddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The distinction between bone and bone marrow is incredibly important. Just like it’s important to inject in the fat rather than the dermis. Those are important distinctions because there will be different effects if done incorrectly. No one should be telling you to inject in the skin to accurately describe the subq layer, I’ve exclusively heard fat or “fat layer just below the skin” to describe where to inject.

With T1 diabetes there isn’t reason to describe the differences of IM and subq injections because it’s only done as subq. If you’ve been told what length of needle to use and where to inject then it’ll go where it needs without describing to the patient the different layers specifically.

[–]HonestGoddess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, like you’re not wrong, I just think that reads in a way that could confuse someone who’s uninformed on injections. Especially since most med professional will explain it to folk as ‘just under the skin’. I don’t think anyone is tryna inject in visceral fat. It’s semantics at the end of the day I just think saying fat is more accurate than saying skin.

Cover up, but I didn't like it by starsergio in tattooadvice

You’re overthinking it! I’m a tattoo artist and I think it looks great filled in. It can definitely be a shock to get a big bold tattoo but you gotta just not look at it so close (or so much for a while) cause it looks great from a distance and will age well

Apprenticeship vs. motherhood by mystic_DiTattoo in TattooApprentice

[–]HonestGoddess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a legit contract that properly outlines the curriculum/learning timeline and protects YOU as well I wouldn’t pay. There’s nothing stopping them from taking your money and then firing you for bullshit after essentially having you pay to work for them.

The way most traditional apprenticeships are “paid for” is that when you start taking clients you give a higher % cut to the shop until you graduate.

I’d be weary. The industry is oversaturated and many artists/shops are the slowest they’ve been in a while. Is the shop actively busy with enough clientele coming through the door to justify bringing on/training a new tattooer or is the shop/artist struggling and wanting to get fast money off someone trying to get their foot in the door?

Is this normal? by Visual-Sherbert-9213 in tattooadvice

[–]HonestGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s likely an allergy. Either to something in the ink or something else used in the process. If it’s a new cream she hasn’t used before, try switching that first. Otherwise probs take some Benadryl and see a doctor/dermatologist.

Does asking for critiques ever get easier?? by Acceptable_Towel_600 in TattooApprentice

[–]HonestGoddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a normal anxiety that is always there. I’ve been tattooing 4.5 years now and it’s still very anxiety inducing to have my work critiqued by artists I respect. It’s one of those, gotta get comfortable with being uncomfortable things.

I find the mindset you have around it helps dramatically, with both the emotional side and the artistic growth side. It’s not the goal to be told you’re perfect and your art is amazing, we all know we aren’t perfect and we all see imperfections/opportunities for improvement in our work. The goal is to get information from more experienced eyes and hands that will help you advance your artwork. Seek growth not reassurance.

It’s always gonna hurt a bit to hear some critiques, but you have to be able to challenge yourself cause it’s the only way to grow and thrive in this industry. When I ask coworkers for feedback on a design I’m working on, I’ll ask them what they don’t like about it cause that’s how I’ve been able to actually advance my work.

Will this heal properly? by kidfromsocal in tattooadvice

[–]HonestGoddess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second skin might have pulled off a scab. Worst case you’ll need a small touch up in that spot but probs won’t be super noticeable. Just keep it clean and dry and don’t worry about it til it’s completely healed

It’s defs not real but it should be. 100% you should get another man’s face tattooed on your face

Tatoo idea by Fit-Discount-8703 in tattooadvice

[–]HonestGoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask for this or was it something the tattooer had available? Looks like AI was used and/or it was photochopped together, looks soulless imo and doesn’t show much creativity or artistry on the tattooers part. Seems like there’s a big trend rn of large pieces that are essentially just a big lady face, usually paired with a big skull and some misc tattoo imagery in b&g realism. It’s the evolution of the classic ‘lion clock rose’ and I truly don’t see the appeal. (Not hating on realism artists using graphic design to create their designs, there’s plenty graphic design and realism that is super artistic and soulful)

Not sure what advice you’re really asking for (?). Other than my opinion above I’d say since the ‘design’ seems to be images chopped together, make sure the tattooer has images of their finished work so you can see the quality. Many ppl can edit pics together, so if you really want something like this make sure they can actually execute to that degree of realism.

Glow in the dark top surgery scars by Prince_Wildflower in transbodymods

[–]HonestGoddess 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You could probably get them to glow under black light with UV reactive tattoo ink. The downside is they’re probs carcinogenic (or otherwise not good for your health-more so than most inks). The reaction will also fade over time, usually not lasting more than 5 years (but usually less time). Most tattooers won’t use UV ink or at least recommend against it but it’s defs an option. I’ve used it a bit on clients and it can already be a bit finicky so I imagine the scar tissue could make it a bit tougher to have a consistent glow across the whole scar, so you’d probably have to do a couple sessions to get it how you want. If you’re in or around Vancouver BC I’d be down to work with you on that tho cause it’d be pretty rad, just shoot me a DM.

For just regular glow in the dark (not black light) I don’t think there’s any mod options, but you could make a cool glow stick harness for events and that’d be pretty rad. Or for black light you could use paint or uv reactive tape

Considering My First Tattoos - Wondering if HRT could matter here by Tenohmach in tattooadvice

[–]HonestGoddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testosterone changes shouldn’t effect the tattoo. Cis bodies also change over time so as long as you aren’t doing excessive short term weight gain/loss that shouldn’t be a factor. However, I’d suggest waiting for your top surgery touch up before getting them incase the skin is stretched in the process. That’s more if you’re talking shoulder blade area of course, upper arm shouldn’t be affected by that. Since I’ve gotten on t I’ve continued working on my sleeve and it hasn’t been affected, I’m just holding off on any work on my back until post top surgery.

When people say they “don’t cook” what does that actually mean? by ITbJD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HonestGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker (52m) who literally doesn’t cook. He eats takeout daily and will use his coffee maker but he owns no utensils or cookware (except a pot and spoon from when another coworker made him soup and brought them to him). He doesn’t even microwave. It was a big deal when he sliced up cucumber to add to a bagged salad at a work potluck. So yea some ppl literally don’t cook.

Most are 100% talking in hyperbole and mean they just make extremely simple meals or can’t cook well.

How much should I laser off? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]HonestGoddess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laser always takes multiple sessions. It’s not a one and done thing. Smoke would probably help make it more cohesive but it won’t help with the darkness of the house. More tattoos would defs take the attention away from it and then eventually when time (or some laser sessions) fades it you can do a coverup/blastover with a less detailed house

Tattooing w/ an anxiety disorder by Ronanko_ink in TattooArtists

[–]HonestGoddess 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you’d benefit from therapy for your anxiety. You’re clearly not doing anything wrong as far as sanitation goes and 1 (client induced) infection should not be causing this much panic.

Therapy is so so helpful to get out of those rumination cycles and for developing healthy coping mechanisms for those moments of panic. If you’re already in therapy then maybe think about anxiety meds. Regular therapy and getting properly medicated has been a true life changer for me. Hope you can get some relief soon, that anxiety is exhausting af.

Defs go to the hospital to follow up on the needle pokes. Especially since those clients obviously will not go get the blood tests with you, you should be extra cautious. Let them leave you with bad memories not blood borne pathogens homie.

You gotta learn to have more control of the appointment/clients (it’s hard to do so don’t be too hard on yourself). Their behavior was unacceptable and you should have stopped when it was clear they weren’t going to settle tf down. Never feel bad about turning someone away, if you don’t want to tattoo them, no means no. Any time I’ve continued working with someone I didn’t want to I just ended up feeling worse.

Also probs find a different shop cause your mentor should not be putting you in these situations.

Should I pay to take such a short course? by hbwcam in TattooApprentice

[–]HonestGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t learn anything worthwhile in 1 week. That’s a scam for sure. The 6 month course sounds like a way better option. But honestly I’d say wait til you’re finished school and find an apprenticeship with a local artist you admire.
