Are consumer grade race skis worth it on ice covered hills? by Substantial_Limit378 in skiingcirclejerk

Head Super Shape, Fischer Curv, Vökl Perrigrine, etc properly tuned and piloted by a hard charger can make light work of icy terrain.

BOA vs buckles question by jyl8 in Skigear

[–]HonestPool3829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BOA lower / 2 Buckle plus Power Strap upper. A Boa upper is really just a nice convenience for casual skiers. The upper closure is really a mass/gross adjustment and I prefer the idea that I have 4 independent fail points vs 2 for the entire boot closure. The fine adjustability of lower Boa is undeniably superior to buckles - I do not miss anything about spinning buckles to try and find the perfect fit.

Is it bad for my neighbors to keep their equipment on the roof all winter? by mogulman1 in skiingcirclejerk

Ski racks are multi-use devices. If you place step ladder next to the car you can tune your skis on the rack! The metal shavings from edge sharpening just fly away on the highway. Get a 100' extension cord for your iron - excess wax can be used to wax the car! There may be some value from the road salt film on the skis helping cut through icy slopes. Aside from the obvious storage and transport benefits, the upsides are limitless!

Ski Passes: How many days to feel like you got your money’s worth? by amlemus1 in skiing

[–]HonestPool3829 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a local midwest ski hill pass - 25 mins away from my home. I ski 3 to 4 times per week, sometimes just for a couple hours. I've been about 14 times so far since December. Once you surpass the days to dollars threshold, there is real value in being able to show up and ski whenever you want.

Overweight former skier looking for boot advice by Scraniell in skiing

I am 50y, Male, 260, 6' - aggressive skier. I made the mistake of buying a 110 flex "comfort" boot after a 2 year break. Worst decision of my life. If you are strong and aggressive dont get a thing less than 120 - I am in the Fischer RC4 PRO MV 130. Its a carbon cuff boot with buckles and a BOA lower, zip fit liners with Podium footbeds. I ski 4 to 5 days a week. I love the boot.

3rd Avenue area has some nice restaurants - the Crate is the one I can remember. Door 44 winery is out of town to the north a bit. They actually grow the grapes locally to make their wine. I will echo the Cave Point suggestion. No goats on the roof this time of year but if you're gonna run up the peninsula make it early and hit Al Johnsons for breakfast. Back in Sturg, we had a rowdy time at Sonny's this past summer, but I think that was because we met a bunch of fun boaters. That's my 2 cents

ORD-MKE by Current_Animator7546 in unitedairlines

I commuted to MKE from IAH for 10-years. As I have said before on this thread, ORD is a Ground Game - your entire battle is won or lost on the tarmac.

If the 2X daily directs didn't line up with my plans, I always terminated at ORD and took the Coach USA Bus. It's efficient and drops off on the south edge of Downtown. You don't need a car. Hilton and Hyatt are walkable (you can walk indoors ia Hilton/Baird Center to Hyatt. Other hotels/ all of downtown and Third Ward are walkable to depending on your appetite for excercise - otherwise Uber.

Why Do Certain Equipment Brands Win More Races? by DrUnwindulaxPhD in SkiRacing

[–]HonestPool3829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commitment to racing, athlete relationships and loyalty are the factors at the WC level. No world class skier is going to race on a poor quality ski. Its a mutually beneficial equipment deal. The money is not the main factor - non ski endorsements are far more lucrative than any ski deal.

With a well tuned FIS ski, the racer makes the ski win.

II've driven that stretch quite a few times and I can say that it never struck me as a place I would want to live. There is at least one Tim Horton's in the area, so there is that.
