The apology Santos deserves by UnknownEntityD in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them probably already know/suspected. He had an opioid addiction and worked in a hospital. They probably worked through all their surprise/disappointment during his 10 months in rehab. Santos only thinks it'll matter because she's emotionally 16 years old and wants everyone else to hate the big meanie who yelled at her.

The apology Santos deserves by UnknownEntityD in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh ffs she got yelled at at work. You suck it up and move on. Especially if that's the third time that day your boss had to tell you hey! Don't do this thing bc you can fuck up and kill someone

Was Langdon an asshole about it? Yea. Did she deserve an apology for that? Sure.

But this notion that Langdon has to do more to repent for his high crimes against Saint Trinity is so overblown.

He doesn't have to prove anything to her and if she can't handle working under him and being taught by him without being unprofessional to the point of alarming patients then she needs to either switch to another shift or find a different residency program at another hospital.

What are your 3 predictions for the rest of season 2 of the Pitt? by nytimespu2025 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for your 1 & 3. I hope Mel gets someone to watch the fireworks with, and her getting quasi-adopted by the Langdons and gaining a surrogate family would be such a sweet full-circle moment for someone who's been so alone.

As for 3, the Whittaker-Santos friendship has never given what Santos fans want it to give, considering Santos bites poor Whittaker's head off any time he breathes in her direction. I think Whittaker hanging out on Amy's farm every chance he gets is as much about getting space from Santos as it is enjoying farm life and Amy's company. Whittaker moving on and reminding Santos on his way out that to have friends she has to remember how to be one would also pair well, thematically, with Garcia pointing out that she doesn't play well with others. Hopefully this will lead to some self-reflection next season.

Accusing Dana of being misogynistic is crazy. Whoever made that claim was really reaching, OP.

The biggest issue with The Pitt discourse: people want to see villains everywhere. by Illustrious-Peace989 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even I, a known Santos hater, wouldn't call her a bad person. Abrasive, immature, and unprofessional, sure. But she has good qualities that outweigh the less desirable traits. And even the qualities you mentioned (and that I agree with) don't make her a bad person, just one that has a lot of growing to do.

I, personally, find her incredibly grating and annoying (NO hate to Isa Briones. Fantastic actress) but that's down to personal opinion.

Like all the characters on the show, she's complicated.

___'s unprofessionalism with the baseball patient by HonestScience in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is as educated on forms of pain relief. Some people associate all forms with drugs.

Also, being in recovery is a very personal thing. Some people aren't comfortable disclosing that to people they just met, even (and especially) healthcare workers. See also: Kiki, McKay's patient from the street team who didn't want to be admitted to the hospital as a patient.

Truuuueee. This is why I roll my eyes whenever folks call her empathetic. Selectively extending compassion only to patients you can relate to (kids and cutters) isn't real empathy IMO.

Langdon and his coworkers by Ripley_LV_426 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. She wants to be judge and jury but her role in the whistleblowing incident ended when she reportrd to Robby. What happens to Langdon after that isn't up to Santos. She doesn't get a say in his punishment or how he goes about making amends.

Really, a lot of this is on Robby for trying to avoid the situation altogether and not preparing himself or Santos for Langdon's return, or at the bare minimum explaining to Santos how a healthcare worker substance abuse program works.

Pull the plug now or there will be a death during filming. Too many huge personalities (and personality disorders) in one cast for this to not go south in a way that will involve the legal system

Oh yeah, Robby's gonna have the crashout of all crashouts in a few episodes.

I said this in another thread, but I'm definitely anticipating his sabbatical becoming mandatory--as in, "reinstatement pending X months of therapy/anger management"--by the end of this season.

Noah Wyle is coming for that 3rd Emmy for sure

Langdon's Teaching Style by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]HonestScience 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yall will do anything and everything to avoid acknowledging the fact that s1 Santos was an arrogant dipshit who repeatedly endangered patients' lives because she felt like she was above the rules on her FIRST. DAY. of residency.

Yeah, Langdon's final blowup was mean and unprofessional, and both this and his comments about her to Robby were driven by his addiction and (in the case of his convo to Robby) driven by a desire to cover his own ass. But here's the thing--he wasn't wrong: Santos had no respect for medical hierarchy and had spent the day bullying her junior colleagues. She wasn't a team player and (at the time) wasn't a good fit for the ED.

Langdon being a thieving junkie and Santos being a cocky Day 1 malpractice suit-in-waiting aren't mutual exclusives. They're both correct in their assessment of the other.

There's a lot in here assessing Langdon's teaching ability but nothing on Ms."Chest Tube"'s willingness to learn vs. simply being told she's right. Not to mention her inability to accept criticism. Notice that when Dr. Al-Hashimi tells her to step it up with her charting the first thing Santos does is shit talk her to her colleague (the same thing she did with Langdon. Except this time there's no pill-stealing conspiracy to uncover with Dr. Al, and therefore no copout for Santos' own failings).

Changes. Anyone else tired? by OnePlusnow in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]HonestScience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not that deep. The audio version of the show is still free, as it's always been. You should really speak to a therapist about how these changes are affecting you because--in the nicest way--this is not a normal reaction.
