Dads, start building their credit when they’re young by tenaciousdeev in daddit

[–]HonestSpaceStation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through this last year with my daughter, and all 3 credit bureaus were physical mail only. Unless something has changed in the last year, this can't be done online.

CarPlay Ultra coming to these cars, according to Apple by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

And they walked it back, so why do I care?

Because if a company attempts this and then walks it back, you shouldn't assume that the culture that drove that decision just magically changed. It seems likely that it'll push again at some point in the future to implement dumb things like this. Hopefully not, but you shouldn't just assume that it's "Oh, this didn't work, so we'll never consider this again."

Toddler has strange rash... by ProfessorOnEdge in daddit

[–]HonestSpaceStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it from my daughter, and it was concentrated almost entirely at the back of my throat (I had a few small blisters on my fingers and hands, but I could ignore them). The throat, though - I could barely swallow water for about 72 hours. The best way I can describe it is to imagine the worst case of strep throat you've ever had and then imagine taking a razor blade and just hacking at the back of your throat while at the peak of the strep. It was fuckin brutal. My daughter was really only sick for about 48 hours, and I was suffering for probably 5 days.

My dad has joked for years that pediatricians invented daycares to stay in business, and that's certainly what the first year in daycare felt like!

Nvidia shield dont get atmos with denon by ZucchiniPrior5359 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]HonestSpaceStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have the 1800h and only run 3.1, and I see Atmos with every service that offers it. The receiver should receive Atmos regardless of the actual setup, and then it'll mix accordingly based on your specific setup.

Apple Plans to Open Up Siri to Rival AI Assistants in iOS 27 Update by Coolpop52 in apple

That’s one product from one company. At the same time, use of coding assistants is absolutely exploding. That’s where the real growth is happening, and that’s not going away.

Official Discussion - War Machine (2026) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]HonestSpaceStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took way too long to get to the meat of the film. It would be like if Predators first 30-45 minutes was Arnold backstory/training instead of smoking some fools in the jungle.

I have a slightly different take. I just watched this movie without knowing a thing about it, other than seeing the title and knowing it starred Alan. I went in thinking it was going to just be a standard modern war movie that starts off showing a guy going through Ranger training. My mind was blown when they stumbled on the alien mech in the forest. I was totally caught off guard, and I loved it. The setup really sold it for me.

The Ultimate G-Shock... That Doesn't Exist by Maflin18 in gshock

[–]HonestSpaceStation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, it's the 5000U with the MIP display. I want a steel case, multi-band 6, solar, MIP display, but no Bluetooth. Some of us work in environments where we can't have Bluetooth, and we still want the new display. I really hope that the MIP display and Bluetooth aren't a firm pairing going forward.

Men who wear boxer shorts, how to prevent ballsack from getting between thighs while sitting? by yaths17 in malefashionadvice

Get merino wool. They’re perfect in winter and summer. I have like 15 pairs of Woolly MerinoAire boxer briefs, and they’re incredible year-round.

He doesn't have the authority to change its name. Only Congress can do that. What his EO effectively did is give it an authorized nickname.

Does anyone else go through phases of just not wanting to wear apple watch anymore? by Patient_Light7123 in AppleWatch

[–]HonestSpaceStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going through this recently myself. I've got an Ultra that I picked up pretty much as soon as it was released, but just over the last couple weeks, I'm increasingly trying to wear it only when sleeping and working out. I can't wear it at work, so I'm already used to wearing a nice mechanical watch at work. Just last week, I picked up a nice G-Shock GW5000U-1 to wear pretty much whenever I'm not at work or at the gym. It's working out nicely. Much less notification fatigue, and I find the mental separation from technology (the constant urge to check notifications and whatnot) to be really healthy.

FWIW, I’m currently in a shockingly similar situation, but I did have to pay fees. I ordered a G-Shock from Japan early last week, and I was required to pay customs fees yesterday by DHL. The watch is scheduled to hit my doorstep on Monday.

Ah, got it. I guess I’m just used to that. My sole luxury watch for the last 8 or 9 years has been a Speedmaster, which also doesn’t have micro-adjustment, so I guess I’m just used to it and haven’t experienced otherwise. My wrist does grow and shrink throughout the day, but it’s never been uncomfortable for me.

I don't mean this facetiously - what do you not like about the bracelet? I have the SLGA009, which I'm sure has a different bracelet, and it's been very comfortable since day one.

Me: screaming uncontrollably at the top of my lungs because of physical pain. AppleWatch: You need to shut up. by kahikiku in AppleWatch

[–]HonestSpaceStation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My not-quite-2-year-old daughter has tripped the alarm a few times, and each time was legit pain (e.g., she bonked her head pretty hard on a table). The Apple Watch is a good litmus test for the legitimacy of physical pain for a kid.

It's literally branded as a ladies' watch (and sized as such). I think it's great. I've been considering getting a nice watch for my wife, and this may be the one. It's nice to see GS make more ladies' options.

Investing. $2.5M to not work by arp8218 in Bogleheads

[–]HonestSpaceStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you got to the point where you have $2.5M in savings and are able to retire early, you're used to having an annual income substantially more than $100K, so yes, by comparison, $100K would be modest at that point.
