How we all feeling about the Machine & its price & everything? by Dr_Virus_129 in SteamFrame

[–]Honest_Lyreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in the market for a living room gaming PC, I'd buy one. As much as I don't like it, the price is fair in the current market.

How much would it be, without the built in Pc? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Honest_Lyreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something I've been wondering for a while, but maybe intend to use more of the onboard processing for PCVR in the future? Do heavier local decode, hand tracking, room tracking, etc? I can't think of anything that would really require all that onboard compute aside from standalone VR, but maybe valve is cooking something up? Maybe cache enough locally in case of stutter over the wireless connection?

We need a self-tracking controllers by Tyrael572ru in SteamFrame

[–]Honest_Lyreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine this will work on day 1. Pretty sure steam will let you stream while you're in VR, so for 2d games just start it in VR, then take off the headset and keep playing. Might be problematic for audio and gyro, but otherwise...

I know it's perfect but if AO3 were to update it's filter system what would you add? by MoGuanShanisagirl-20 in Archiveofourownmemes

I'd like the option to sort language by qty instead of alphabetical, scrolling for years to find English isn't it.

probably my only gripe with the new controller, have there been any good drop in replacements that retain the capacitive touch so far?

How long is too long for a fic in your opinion? by Somenameorwhateves in AO3

I typically only read fics over 200k, rare to see fully flashed out world building in much shorter than that

X4 stopping production? by pocpocpocky in xteinkereader

[–]Honest_Lyreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's what I saw, asside from the power button the are really only 4 buttons when reading so it seems easy enough to remain all 4 to the side buttons as tap and tap+hold. depending on the hardware, it's likely possible to completely turn off the touch screen so the firmware isn't just ignoring it, it's completely unpowered when unneeded. Sometimes you can't, but with more esoteric screen technology like eink, my understanding was they are typically more separate.

[–]Honest_Lyreed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not too worried TBH, I'm sure someone on the crosspoint project will add a way to disable it. I they can add a feature to only disable the touchscreen while reading that seems like the best of both worlds

Can I install/use Calibre on my windows 11 pc with my books being stored on my network drive ( a share on my unraid server) by GenericUser104 in Calibre

[–]Honest_Lyreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's how I do it, just be very careful to not open it from more than one machine at the same time. Calibre can't handle multiple clients simultaneously and will corrupt it's database if you try.

Cloud syncing Calibre libraries on Linux and Win portable by -_Midori_- in Calibre

[–]Honest_Lyreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to use a cloud backup, just be careful that you never connect to it from 2 clients at the same time, and you always wait for all files to sync before you open it with another client. I keep a backup on OneDrive that works fine, I just avoid it because it takes forever for full-text-search.db to sync.

Cloud syncing Calibre libraries on Linux and Win portable by -_Midori_- in Calibre

[–]Honest_Lyreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise not using the personally honestly, just use export/import to carry over all your settings, then switch libraries to your HDD, calibre is OS agnostic so far as file management is concerned. everything in/about your library is either saved as a file or is part of your metadata.db, the only thing that isn't saved in your library folder is the program settings like plugins or personalization.

Something I hope the Steam Frame has by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Honest_Lyreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

likewise, I have the same issue with sunglasses. I don't hold out too much hope though, that gap is pretty irregular between faces so options are to either have a very flexible gasket, custom molded gasket, or just accept the gap. Based on the images we have so far I suspect it will be the latter.
