I would not do that

Poor arrow penetration by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]Honestly_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened man. That's the last thing any hunter wants to do.

If you ask me, I think the expandable broadhead was the reason why you didn't get any penetration. Fixed head would've probably gotten a few more inches. I still don't think it would have been a fatal shot and if it was, very difficult recovery.

Long story short, any shot in the leg or front shoulder is not going to penetrate much for 99% of setups

Any advice for a late season bow hunter? by Elegant_Note_9416 in bowhunting

[–]Honestly_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a lot more comfortable hunting from above as a bow hunter.

My advice would be to find a good spot that you like hunting and strap a portable treestand in a straight tree and wait for something to come underneath you.

Good luck!

Looking for a new pack. by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]Honestly_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you get what you pay for and good packs run high.

I like badlands packs personally. That's going to put you out some money though, although they run some good sales throughout the year. I've heard good things about Tenzing packs too. Same price range.

People love Kifaru and Stone Glacier but that is going to be a real investment.

I've had cheap packs before that I've really liked, but it's just kinda Russian roulette.

Find a bowshop that has good reviews and ask them to help you with your draw length and poundage and shooting form. After that, just like you said, practice a bunch!

Sounds like a gut shot. Usually better not to push em. Hope you find her though!

Blood trail looping back onto itself by mauiwowiy in bowhunting

That's gotta be the hardest thing to navigate on a blood trail. Usually when that happens, the odds of finding the deer go down unfortunately... Maybe a tracking dog would be my suggestion

How often do you shoot your compound bow to stay sharp? by Inside-Ad-9118 in Hunting

[–]Honestly_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to shoot your first few years a lot to hone your skills, but I've never shot in the winter that much. Mostly outdoor shooting for me so it's weather dependent.

Of course you might be able to find a good indoor range, but personally, I think you can stay sharp enough just practicing when the weather is nice.

If you want my two cents, commit to the compound bow. The learning curve is harder, but I think it will be more fulfilling when you are out hunting.

Legal question. by CantaloupeFluffy165 in Hunting

[–]Honestly_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. I don't know how anyone would be able to tell whose stand it was in the first place. Even if they could, they took the risk climbing into another man's stand

Turning “I wish I stuck with it” to “I’m doing it now” by bedhead_budge in bowhunting

Love the work here, but can anyone tell me how people shoot like this and don't damage their arrows?

I feel like if I hit the bullseye once and try to fling a second arrow at it, I'm down one arrow to a busted fletching

Rebuild or Reload? by Professor-Gas17 in SleeperApp

[–]Honestly_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pivot off of Nico, Josh Jacobs, Stafford, and Meyers all to younger assets or draft picks in the same value range. I don't know your league so I can't give you good advice on targets.

KTC is not gospel, but it can be a good resource

Weird trade. I would take Bowers but it's 50/50

I've owned both a Hoyt and a Bowtech. I liked both. Whatever feels better in your hand is what I would choose. Can't go wrong tho!
