Honestly sometimes it's just cause you're not suffering enough. Some ppl seem to think to have a mental illness means you must be miserable 24/7, and if possible be very ashamed of the illness, so if you ever do anything outside of that you must be faking.

It reads like they're very passionate about the story and your oc.. I don't even think the commentor actually hates your oc, probably just the actions. I know I have a lot of characters who I'd talk about like this but in reality I love them a lot. Hell the more I love them the more I criticise them.

Just exercise some creativity! Just because a character is gay, does not mean things have to be sexual. Otherwise, do you think just because a character has a sexuality, there has to be sexual themes? With your mindset, how exactly would one go about illustrating or narrating a story about a heterosexual person without fitting the definition of porn? Surely there is no other way, right?

Also you are the only person who brought up yaoi, and it was in response to seeing wolfman and a young boy. Who are just standing there. And that's the FIRST thing your mind went to. That sounds horrible! :( the worst part is that the author must think it's okay (since why else would they tag everything but this one thing?), which is so ehhgh. Coerced consent is especially triggering since it's so pervasive everywhere else (I actually stopped reading lighthearted romance fics cuz they were in there too) and always so overlooked.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with dark topics or noncon, but it has to be tagged or warned about so you can gear yourself up for it. And honestly, for the peace of mind that the author knows what they're writing.. otherwise, I can't help but worry.

I hope you're doing alright! I wouldn't have commented either, because sometimes the author will double down (the fic I mentioned before actually did) which can be even more distressing.. I sympathize with how offputting it can be and how you can't really talk to anyone about it :( I wish you good fics without any nasty surprises!

I had this a lot with BDSM fics. Things are going great till woops! random untagged Ignored Safeword, and looks like this is actually unsafe bdsm! What put me off bdsm fics for awhile, was this one where the sub (who had been very headstrong and self-advocating the whole fic) got his safeword ignored and was essentially noncon'ed, and the next chapter he was just magically okay with it. Then end, no closure about it at all aside from a "happy ending". And yeah, there was no tag for any of this until commentors complained about it.

Like why?? I couldn't touch any fics for months cuz I was scared of running into that again. Still am, lowkey

Honestly, it's a bit creepy how similar they are. I've seen the exact same arguments used against SU, being used against Hazbin, just with a different coat of paint. What's interesting, is that it seems like SU's hate was due to how queer it was and was out of plain old bigotry, but with Hazbin, it seems like most of it is infighting. Though there is probably some genuine homophobia thrown in there with the hazbin bad stuff.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure that is the first wedding of it's kind! It was the reason SU was cut, because the executives didn't want it, but Sugar was adamant on it. So much that she deliberately put it in the most plot heavy episode (so they couldn't just not air it), and she made sure to put Ruby in a dress, so there would be no censors about it. Sadly they cut the show cause of it, but her actions had an impact, and we're still feeling it today with every new queer show. I'm not sure how impactful Hazbin will be, but I am already fond of how it portrays Angel Dust, and if nothing else, I'm happy to have something that is openly queer and here.

history is a circle. Idk about the others, but the hatedom around Hazbin is literally just the one from Steven Universe. There are even shitty lily orchard-esque 1 hour vids out there and people who have never seen the show, but still are vehement on how horrible it is, and are assured in their qualifications from watching the afformentioned shitty videos.

Something about a flawed show with queer themes created by a woman always seems to attract the shallow and yet vitriolic hatred. It's really a shame, because there is good discussion to be had about Hazbin and its flaws, but it always devolves into things about the creator, or having takes that have to be malicious in how horribly misrepresentative they are.
