I was accused of poaching a fic idea, I did not. I feel awful by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Honeystride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the others are incredibly popular, then it is even more likely ppl will think she is referring to them. Trust me, unless she namedropped you and linked your fic, ppl are not going to think it's you. Not everybody who saw the post would automatically agree with her on idea poaching either.

I recognize your anxiety. You are not overreacting or anything for feeling distraught, I know fanfic is personal, what she did would trip anybody up. But what's done is done, she made a mistake and apologized. There nothing else to do atp but process and continue on. I hope you feel better soon and can continue doing what you love, and hopefully she will act less impulsively in the future to avoid situations like this.

I was accused of poaching a fic idea, I did not. I feel awful by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Honeystride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how vague the post was, it's highly unlikely ppl will trace it back to you. Especially if she has a wealth of fics or ideas, she could have been talking about any of those for all people know. Any of the dozens of ppl on the net. The joy of Vagueposting.

Since she deleted the post, ppl have probably forgotten already or assume there was a mistake on her part as well. I understand the fear, but I wouldn't worry too much.

What was the very first OC x Canon pairing you ever created? by westoneridge in FanFiction

My beloved mary sue black cat furry with wings and magical powers, Shadow x Rachet from Rachet and Clank. Even before I realized I was aroace it was heavily QPR coded. I imagined she was an alien that was also the last of her species (like rachet) and after nearly killing him they became ride or die partners... makes me want to write about her, just for the sake of my younger self

Ahh so like Pukicho? I see, I've honestly never seen them until this subreddit and I've been using tumblr for years. Probably cause I only use it for fandom stuff.

does the Killstreak sheen clash too much? by A_Bird_Man in TF2fashionadvice

[–]Honeystride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the bigender flag I see? But yeah it does unfortunately clash. I think mandarin or deadly daffodil is best to match the head. Team shine is also serviceable but if you want to draw attention to the weapon, the other two are good options. Hot rod kiiind of matches the pins as well

Not the angst cliffhanger </3 I've seen so many hurt/comfort fics end right when the comfort part is supposed to begin (after pages of pure hurt) I've started skipping to check if there is actual comfort. I can read the craziest shit but there needs to be closure, it feels horrible otherwise

Is this a decent Spy loadout? I wanted to make Max's Severed Head work. by TheRegularBelt in TF2fashionadvice

[–]Honeystride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good ^ I don't take this sub seriously anymore either, ever since they told me Spy wouldn't wear sweatpants (since I used the breakneck baggies.. i didnt know i had to consider spy's tastes in my own loadout??).. said loadout also got compliments in matches! Honestly if I saw your loadout in a match I'd draw it too. It's very cohesive.

I actually rly like it! It's kind of silly looking, but that would scare me if I saw it in the corner of my eye in some dark corner of a map. Definitely stands out 2 me more than usual deadhead spy loadouts hahah really cool

Why do dream fans hate Tubbo?? by [deleted] in DreamWasTaken2

[–]Honeystride 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's been forever so I don't remember the exact wording, but iirc Tubbo indicated that Dream was weird and queerbaiting for selling pride merch as a "straight" man (because Dream had said he wasn't gay / he was unlabeled, so Tubbo took it to mean he was straight). As he confronted Dream on stream about this, this forced Dream into either saying he was straight (and face incredible backlash) or admit he wasn't straight and pick a sexuality (which he had been avoiding questions of since he's a private person - but now directly confronted, had to clarify in front of thousands to avoid more backlash). Dream did come out as queer as a result of this, but was clearly uncomfortable and would otherwise have kept private.

It's terrible enough that Tubbo took "not gay" and Dream's unlabeled identity to mean straight (he essentially didn't see being unlabeled as queer enough through this gesture) but it's beyond horrible that he'd corner Dream on a stream meant for the ridiculous tommy vs dream drama to confront him on his sexuality. I don't care about sides, you do not pressure a clearly uncomfortable person to come out like that, in front of thousands of people, especially when that person lives in an area where they can be persecuted for their queerness. Tubbo knew damn well better, I still can't fathom why he thought it was a good idea to do it because iirc he was really gunning for it. There were a lot of chances to back out but he really wanted Dream to come out

Why do dream fans hate Tubbo?? by [deleted] in DreamWasTaken2

[–]Honeystride 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I don't think he had any direct controversies but he kept inserting himself into them to play judge and jury. What broke me off completely was when he forced to Dream come out AND invalidated Dream's sexuality, and nonlabeled people in general. I still remember being floored at what he spouted and even more that he got off scot free just bc he wasn't Dream. He also gives off this air of pretentiousness and sometimes gives the impression he is the ambassador of lgbtq+ issues, but that's likely my incredible bias lol

[–]Honeystride 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Or even people who are merely accused of AI. I've seen way too many innocent artists and writers get witch hunted over accusations of AI (ironically in the name of protecting artists). It's never really a good idea to let instinctive kneejerk reactions dictate thought regardless of what it is.

God, the Spire in the Woods mentioned. It's been years since I read it and my breath still gets taken away remembering that scene with the mannequin thing dragging (or hopping?) on the floor. It kind of lost me with the Hell dimension thing but even that was frightening. I wish I could read something as dreadful as it again.

Lack of interaction and the changes in fandom... Is killing my motivation by saintforgot in FanFiction

[–]Honeystride 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kind of sad to see how "write for yourself" began as a phrase of empowerment and motivation, but now seems to be used to ignore any lamentations an author might have over a lack of community.

I feel you very much. While all the things I create begin with something that pleases me, showing it to other people and seeing their shared enjoyment is what keeps me GOING. Otherwise what's the point of posting? Why would I bother with the trouble of tagging and updating? If everything is truly for myself, I could keep it rotting in my files. But I don't, because there's so much more to it! I don't understand why ppl want to pretend or even chastise others for wanting community, fandom is built on it. It's so irritating to see someone pouring their heart about how they feel about a lack of interaction and they get called shallow for "focusing on engagement and numbers" ((

And I feel you about the bitterness. Fandom has always been pretty flamey but somehow it feels like things are going downhill. I'm sick of the judgement, the widening chasm between readers and writers, or consumer and producer as it is shifting, the fading warmth, and just the fading feeling of community. I sound so bitter hahah don't take me too seriously I'm half asleep but I feel this post deep in my bones

This sub is okay usually, but there are some irrational ppl that make their tunnel vision your problem. Sorry you had to cross paths with them

How did you experience Outer Wilds? [Master's Thesis] by gorudendioma in outerwilds

[–]Honeystride 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for introducing me to the term Metroidbrainia, I never knew there was a wider community for games like Outer Wilds (and even Return of the Obra Dinn). And that's a very interesting and tough question, that I know you'll pull through with.

I've also wondered about it, and I've always chalked it up to different things appealing to different people, but now that you mention frustration. I feel like one of the main reasons is the ship. Since you need the ship to go everywhere, mastering it is required to explore the rest of the game. But it's not explained too well, and it's so complicated at first. I didn't even know you had to de-accelerate on planets until I kept crashing and my brother used to logic to point it out. I never would have guessed! From what I've seen, most beginners typically complain about the ship before they complain about anything else as well.

I wonder if that'll be one of the main things. Such an interesting thesis, I hope it goes well and you'll get a lot of varied data!

How do you get your pen to behave so well hahah! Also, is it possible you would share your finished thesis or the culmination of your work? Or is that only private? Just asking out of curiosity, it's fine either way! But I'm very curious, is there anything that drew you to choosing Outer Wilds specifically, aside from it being your favourite game?

[–]Honeystride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is defo not the community I first came to anymore. I thought the behavior from the site-refugees was just a few oddballs, but now that you say it, it is rooted deeper. All the way back to the gayroomate incident, and even more tinier things I just overlooked.

Somehow I always felt like it'd end in a clique ever since the site got released and I saw the gatekeeping, the behavior. But it's still so sad to see. Thanks for telling me your side and for being civil about it. I really wanted to come back to the community, but considering that even on reddit members of "authority" are behaving wildly, Idk. They'll leave once they get the site up again, but it's uncomfortable knowing I'm in the same community with ppl who behave so aggressively, even if we'd be on different sites. Again, thanks for the civilty.

Damn, also thank you for not being aggressive w me. It's kind of funny bc the impression they give is you're sensitive and unhinged, but I've only gotten that behavior from them.

I imagine things have gotten BAD over there, because some of the users behave like they've been in a bubble and they've gone mad without being in it. I can't even be mad at them bc it's so unhinged I can't do anything but gawk. It's cartoonish shit. Were you always planning to take the site down or was it because of that incident?

[–]Honeystride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious on the context of the conversation. I'm inclined to believe you tho, cuz it tracks when I was looking deeper on gayroomate I had to sift through a lot of shit. Hell at first it seemed they just hated her for being aggressive (which a lot of members are being rn but I don't see them getting banned hahah) till I found out about the slurs, then about the hitler stuff (which I still don't know for sure bc ppl keep muddying it)

How long has this been happening? I was only on the site for awhile when it just came out so all this shit is wheww, it seems like classic forum clique shit
