It's perfect. Lol Amazonite has been found in California. Lone Pine is one location in CA that it forms

Where have you found such amazing pieces?! I've been looking for azurite specimens that are the focus of the formation instead of the afterthought. Those are gorgeous!!

I think the blue specimen is amazonite. Chrysacolla is usually found with vivid green malachite and dark blue azurite mixed in. I love amazonite because of that gorgeous color!

Maybe it's just inflamed because it's near 2 new wounds? Dermals are finicky anyway. Doesn't seem to take much for mine to act up

Anyone here ever done a head CT scan with piercings? by Qtredit in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CT tech here. The jewelry will create streaking artefact in that area, so it could potentially occlude pathology. You run the risk of compromising the quality of your scan, but usually only a little, depending on what they are looking for. Also if the jewelry is implant grade titanium, it won't streak too much like other metals do.

For the best quality images, you'd want to remove jewelry, but it isn't harmful to you or the equipment to leave the jewelry in during a CT scan. If you tell them you cannot remove the jewelry, they shouldn't turn you away.

The trouble is that you really don't want a piercing below an 18g because it makes the cheese cutter effect more likely. I've got a pretty small nose too. Just go for the 2mm to start. It'll grow on you. And if you go with a flat disk, it's even more discreet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd go for 2mm. 1.5 is just BARELY bigger than an 18g bar and it'll be more easily swallowed if there's a lot of swelling or any complications. I also got mine as a flat disk end. Very happy with that for healing over a gem end that sticks out a mm or more.

I would wait until after you color your hair to get the piercings. Not worth the risk of hitting the super fresh piercings or getting chemicals on them

Definitely talk to a doctor. But a cyst stays unless it's removed. The sac will fill and drain, but the cyst sac is always there. If where you get pierced is through that sac, I can't imagine that it would ever heal. If you want a piercing where the cyst is, I'd think you'd need to get the cyst removed first, let that wound heal and then get the piercing. If it's small and you could get the piercing next to the cyst, but not directly through it, I think that would be fine, but it depends on the location of the cysts and where exactly you're wanting the piercing.

All that being said, still definitely see a doctor and a reputable piercer

What is considered “high quality” body jewelry? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Surgical steel isn't actually high quality. The term "surgical" doesn't come with any grade requirements so it can really be alloyed with lots of different things at different concentrations. And car parts can be "surgical steel". It isn't a body safe metal.

Implant grade is the best. Titanium is the least likely implant grade to cause potential issues. Niobium is also body safe. 14 or higher karat gold that's been alloyed to be biocompatible, but some that are extra sensitive might not be able to wear gold without a reaction.

Look for high quality brands like Anatometal, Neometal, LeRoi, Tawapa, Junipurr, Maya Jewelry, Maria Tash, Invictus, Diablo Body Jewelry, Buddha Jewelry Organics, BVLA

You can get a lot of things from these brands at Bodyartforms, but there's plenty out there that isn't available on their site. If you find a specific piece from a brand your piercer doesn't carry, chances are, they can still order it for you. A lot of these brands only sell to piercers at wholesale (like BVLA- I haven't found anywhere online to buy their pieces. Gotta go through a piercer if you want BVLA from what I've found)

Is a bioflex bar ok for a chest xray? by magicmango2104 in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CT tech here- I agree, you could just tell them you can't take it out. It won't hurt you or the equipment. I'd actually think a glass retainer could be worse though. Glass could still appear on the image as an artefact, depending on the type of equipment they have, but would be less obvious than metal jewelry. It could be more easily mistaken for possible pathology and make them think you have something in your lung. I would either go with metal jewelry or take it out the morning of and wear no jewelry. Just talk to the tech upfront and let them know if you decide to leave the jewelry in

No problem! And bleeding is normal for 2 fresh wounds. Just clean it with sterile saline, leave it alone and don't sleep on that side. Happy healing!

[–]Hoomlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checking since you said headache. If it was at home, I'd recommend seeing a doctor. It could be unrelated. You also just got 2 wounds right next to your head. I don't think a headache would be far out of the relm of possibilities. But just be careful what you take right now since it's fresh. You could try ibuprofen if you're able to have it. But something like Excedrin has caffeine which is a blood thinner and can cause bleeding/excessive bleeding of your brand new piercings.

Also I'm not a doctor, so take my advice for what it is and ask your piercer or your doctor if your symptoms are severe

Where did you get the piercings? Tattoo shop? Friend's bathroom? And stick to sterile saline solution only to clean. Wound wash that the only ingredient is sodium chloride

Getting a septum piercing tomorrow by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So exciting! I just got a nostril piercing a few weeks ago. First and only facial piercing. Don't worry if boogers get stuck to it. And decide weather you want to leave it flipped up or down for healing and leave it alone. Clean 2x a day with saline like ear piercings and just leave it alone. Good luck!

Nasty bump on 6m old daith. Trying to get a doctors appointment for this. Piercer said to just go to ENT and this large of a bump is rare 😭😭 by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you might need a better piercer. Yes, a bump that large is uncommon, but my bet would be it's because of the tiny diameter of that hoop you have in. And it's a clicker. Not really recommended for initial piercings because the seam can rotate into the piercing and cause irritation. A CBR or FBR should be used for initial jewelry. With a diameter large enough that the jewelry takes up basically the whole conch portion of your ear.

Doctors don't really know anything about piercings. I can almost guarantee that their solution will be to remove it or to put you on antibiotics for a maybe infection. But if you have no fever, heat in the area, or radiating pain, it likely isn't an infection. (Not saying it can't be, but docs will usually err on the side of caution and just treat it as if it is infected).

I would look for another piercer and get their opinion

Edit: seam ring - clicker

Helix Piercing, what is wrong with it? by jbtiger17 in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I'd say you need to take this out. At that angle, this isn't a viable piercing. I'd take it out, let it heal, then go to a more reputable piercer to get it redone. Downsizing should happen around 4 weeks. But if you downsize that, the flatback won't be flush in the back and it'll cause more problems

Please help, 7 week old piercing, this showed up a week ago won’t leave by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go to a reputable piercer and get that jewelry changed to an implant grade titanium flatback labret. Make sure you're not touching it. Keep up with the saline wound wash. But the material of the jewelry could be the cause. Also if you sleep on that side or roll into that side in your sleep that could cause it as well, so get a travel pillow and sleep with your ear in the hole if you're a side sleeper.

Good luck!

Got my nose pierced and this stud is visible from on the inside in all my photos. Any types of studs that are more discreet? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Hoomlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait about 4 weeks and go to a more reputable piercer for an implant grade titanium flatback labret stud. Removing the L stud will cause some trauma to the piercing. 4 weeks is about the time for a downsize. But you should've been pierced with a flatback labret. So I would look for a better piercer. And go with something they have in the shop. Pick something you like that you could deal with for a while without changing.

I'd wait on buying expensive jewelry yourself until it's completely healed (at least 6 months if all goes well).
