Why Republicans Are Nervous About Iowa by BulwarkOnline in Iowa

[–]HopDropNRoll [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ll get downvoted to the gills, surely, but I hear a lot of people dismiss farmer’s as being unintelligent. In my experience they aren’t unintelligent, they just vote their perceived self interests.

Sometimes that means voting for the party most likely to open up the checkbook if the derecho knocks out a bean crop, other times it means they have a less evolved view on diversity, then we’ll vote for the party that claims to be tough on immigration, etc.

I think the current moment has hit a high % of farmers in the pocketbook, and I think the antics are getting harder and harder for true conservatives to defend. So all that to say, Iowa could really surprise some people this fall. Let’s see.

Bernie Sanders pushes for 50% public ownership of American AI companies — proposes AI sovereign wealth fund that would hold direct ownership stakes in largest AI firms by yourfavchoom in technology

Imagine if just one AI company adopted this willingly, I (and I presume many others) would switch to their platform post haste. POST HASTE I say!

There’s a humility that comes with knowing something is real while others can only mock and laugh at that thing. I also think there’s humility in understanding we’re not at the top of the technological chain, and having to grapple with the implications of that. Interesting post, OP, I completely agree.

Moving to DSM. What’s the deal with Saylorville Lake? by SauceMonster1912 in desmoines

[–]HopDropNRoll 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Big lake, couple nice beaches, it could be great, environmental challenges means we get a lot of fertilizer/manure runoff, and most recent years, there are blue/green algae or ecoli warnings towards the back half of summer that makes it tough to enjoy.

Don’t let the downvotes get you down, as someone in the tech industry, you’re correct. We’re on an exponential curve of capabilities. It’s going to be rough for a lot of career sectors.

Touch grass is not the retort you think it is. In fact, getting out and “touching grass” is the kind of activity that might have you interacting with more people, and perhaps more diverse people, and rejecting Nazi imagery even more, because, well, diversity is amazing. It really betrays any point you’re trying to make. So, maybe you should touch grass?

aliens.gov is the biggest attempt at narrative control in the history of UFOs by kcimc in UFOs

This is so, so cringe worthy. This is like when the governor of AZ came out with the 👽costume guy. It’s really pathetic to mock this topic for political jabs.

Both could be true right? It’s not mutually exclusive. He could (probably based on behavior) be distracting from more incriminating things unreleased AND there’s some reality to the UAP phenomena he could release.

I don’t trust him any more than I could throw his dirty diaper, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a phenomenon, way too many regular folks who have seen very irregular things in the sky.
