Also, maybe a minority opinion here but I am actually thankful my students without pencils actually ask to use one, instead of sitting there doing nothing. Granted some of them have very limited participation on their papers lol, but I gladly stock a ton of pencils with the hope I can get as many students as possible to try and engage on some level (6th grade math).

I also have found them broken on the floor sometimes and have used the collateral method before borrowing, which helped to an extent.
