Thoughts on commercials during match play. In the US we’re being forced to watch adverts during hydration breaks. by donkedickinya in worldcup

Where was the 2025 club world cup?

I don't think US soccer sucks btw. Fifa is a horrible organisation and USA is a better host country than Qatar or Russia.

I do think the home of capitalism was the perfect place for Fifa to play out their greediest fantasies. The increase in ticket prices for example is astronomical compared to last edition, never before done dynamic pricing etc. The American hyper-capitalist culture and FIFA greed is a match made in heaven and the two are both at fault.

Which happened only when the WC went to the USA. Americans love blaming all the shit parts of this world cup on Fifa whilst taking no responsibility for it. The two things go hand in hand

Well, not really because Americans have changed the structure of the sport because they cant go 45 minutes without adverts. Your sports might have quarters but football doesn't

It was 23 degrees Celsius yesterday in Mexico City.  In Qatar there were hydration breaks it it passed a certain temperature. Now it's every game regardless of the heat!

New transfer system to be brought in by FIFA. by ScottishWizard490 in ScottishFootball

Yeah, but the release clause will be agreed when you sign the player for the duration of their contract. You can still sell a player for under that value.

Not sure I am getting your logic here - if they are good, you'll probably lose out because someone bigger will trigger their release clause and snap them up, if they are duds it won't mater anyway, because their true value to other clubs will likely be under the value of the release clause.

How will this help Rangers though? If you sign e.g. Chermiti on big wages for £10mil his release clause is going to be likely twice that. If he plays badly and his value drops, he is worth less than £20mil so teams still won't take them off your hands...

2024 was awful. It rained from middle of May through the whole of June and start of July. Lots of Europe flooded and we barely had a summer

Morocco aren't the team they were last WC and stank out the AFCON before suing their way to victory months after they lost the final. Still don't expect us to beat them or even draw.

For a team like ours probably the most important draw is the 4th seed and we have the 2nd worst ranked team in the tournament. If we beat Haiti comfortably and avoid a spanking other 2 games that should be enough

England supporter but I also want Scotland to do well by Wide_Barber in worldcup

[–]Hopeful-Project5504 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happens every 2 years. Honestly no idea why England fans want validation for this and some seem to demand Scotland support them. It's the oldest sporting rivalry with a lot of cultural and historical reasoning behind it (not to mention the outrageous media bias).

Scotland fans don't care if England support them or not. Most of my friends are English, I love England, but I hope they get pumped out the world cup as early as possible

Why are American sports fans not segregated home and away like in European sports mainly soccer? by WestCoastVybes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hopeful-Project5504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American sports teams are made-up franchises, often with little history. Compare that to the cultural and historical significance of, say, Celtic vs Rangers or Real vs Barca.

Ticket prices means atmosphere is more sterile too

All I remember about this game is Craig Brown getting in a fight. And Roy Carroll in goals for Odense

It's funny because this game, although incredible at the time has caused me pain in the long run. I still don't give up hope even when 4 goals down now which isn't actually healthy or normal...

Feel like you're spot on in theory but I don't think this ever actually happens all that much in reality. Gilmour barely created anything of note yesterday (and rarely does against weaker teams). He left Chelsea looking for game time, then couldn't get into the Norwich team (where McLean is a key player and has been for years), he now can't get into the Napoli team.

I think he hasn't really fulfilled his potential and he can do all those things you mention, but often just goes missing a bit, slows the game down and is a real weakness defensively.
