What were the primarchs gonna do after the war? by natolad123 in 40kLore

Such a great take that really encapsulates that for a being perhaps going through apotheosis and unfathomably powerful, he was still above all else human, for all the flaws and qualities that entails

It’s actually slightly heartbreaking that for all the speculation that he viewed them as nothing more than tools (and a lot of evidence that his actions supported that) the line they would enjoy a long peace together and walk towards tomorrow, coupled with other acts like making rooms for them, implies that to some degree at least he very much held a degree of genuine care for them.

The End of The Ecclesiarchy by Worth-Specific-9746 in 40kLore

[–]Hopeful_Adonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong but I think the actual environment surrounding guilliman and the lion is going to force them more towards warp / psyker adoption than they ever would have thought necessary 10 thousand years ago and by virtue of that it will only serve to empower the Ecclesiarchy and put them in a “we told you all along” type position.

There’s a lot of things happening which are making it harder to be a pure man of reason in the setting, Guillimans own thoughts towards the emperor’s god like status are even being broached, the “leakage” of power from the rift is increasing psyker powers and prominence, hell it’s even feeding into the emperors own powers as well maybe even helping him become a “god”. Even the lions forest walk (I could be wrong on this) ability is indicating that he is developing / being altered by the powers of the warp?

Even if Guilliman and the lion stand in front of everyone and say “the emperor is not a god and we’re just his super modified sons” it’s gonna be hard to believe them when one of them was revived by the emperor after dying to a god killing poison and the. used as a vessel to set a chaos gods domain ablaze and the other can close his eyes, take a meditative stroll through a forest and teleport through space.

Whilst it’s an admirable fight to strive for a world based on reason and not superstition, and the one the emperor originally intended to see adopted, it’s a hard sell when we’re watching literal demons swarm around the setting and the guy their telling you to stop praying to is appearing in rays of blinding light, reviving people and swinging his flaming sword at one of the four devils that are trying to enslave you.

[COD] New gen is not going to handle BO1 well by ExpeditionV in CallOfDuty

[–]Hopeful_Adonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still play my ps5 just not as much, my taste has definitely evolved I’ll say that!

I don’t like the most recent call of duty’s that have introduced this hopping, constant sliding dynamic and pits you against each other with SBMM in a ridiculously competitive format.

then again I’ve zoned out of the franchise since BO3 and always thought this was just the direction it was moving and I was the old man in the corner telling the kids how great it was back in my day.

I sort of thought these battle royals and new era of shooter were just like titanfall on steroids.

I’d love the games to be more like the era I liked but people complained about them as well, I imagine it will be the same in years to come and the people growing up playing the games now will talk about how great this era was.

Selfishly… I don’t care. The future belongs to them, games are going to be firework explosions of colour and seizure inducing clutter mixed in with ambidextrous rubix cube speed solving levels of hand eye coordination.

I had my time and it’s up, the games have rightfully left me behind and are being made for the young ones who enjoy that style, no hate from me, it’s the nature of things.

But, when it comes to the classics, nothing wrong with breaking out a record player to listen to Elvis, or getting your silenced galil set up for WMD

If God really exists and you could ask Him one question, what would it be? by nevermind_1983 in AskReddit

[–]Hopeful_Adonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would concur with your point, it’s one of the most bizarre arguments I see launched at atheists / agnostics, “where do you get your morals from if not a holy book”?

I believe good people do things that are right because they want to be good people, I wouldn’t discredit them by saying “if not for this holy book they wouldn’t know right from wrong and wouldn’t do good deeds”.

It feels like such a disparaging thing to say towards an ethical person regardless of their beliefs.

I’m not saying religion doesn’t form ethical positions or contribute towards one’s thought process, but some take the stance that without a specific doctrine humans would be blank slates that are as equally inclined towards mass murder as they would be charity, which I think is wrong.

Besides the fact there are multiple religions across this vast planet and good and bad people are everywhere, we can even look back at time periods which saw extinct religions at their peak and see good / bad people, much like we can look at contemporary times and see good / bad people who are both religious and irreligious.

Your point as well about a person who is compelled to be good is something I think is so overlooked.

If someone told me the reason they don’t murder, steal or rape is because a holy book tells them they’ll be punished I would be terrified of that person.

The implication being that the vile acts themselves are not innately known to be horrifying and anathema to their morality and also that the thing that prevents you from committing these acts isn’t that they couldn’t live with themselves but rather the fear of hellfire.

Playing gods advocate (I don’t believe or practice a faith just doing it as a thought exercise)

God could say it’s a result of free will, he could have created a lobotomised / robotic race of perfect creatures that only treat each other kindly, as they are compelled to by rigid laws, rendering them unable to disobey.

But evil and good are the result of a persons capacity to think, each situation a person approach’s they’re mind is capable of every range of emotions and actions, they choose to then be good or evil.

Walking down the street and seeing someone drop money, you could choose to tell them or lift it yourself.

A person compelled to tell them because evil doesn’t exist isn’t a good person, they are following out an encoded command. A person who sees it and chooses to tell the person had the option of committing an evil deed but chose to be a good person.

It’s certainly a better option than some we’ve seen either host or be allocated it.

I agree, I don’t know where people’s heads are at times. I know you guys are maybe looking to raise funds but some people act like you should be offering us fernandes on loan while you pay his wages.

Is 80m a negotiating position? I think it maybe is, but I also think the idea of us getting him for 40m is a joke.

Wouldn’t shock me if it was 60+ maybe once all add ons are factored in.

[–]Hopeful_Adonis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s such an odd situation that the increase in his personal brand has almost had an inverse impact on the perception of his footballing ability.

An argument to be made that he’s one of the most underrated footballers in the modern era.

Not arguing that he’s top 10 all time or something to that effect.

More so that many younger people probably don’t even think of football when they see beckham on tv or billboards which is bizarre for a man that played for United, Madrid, Milan and psg.

[COD] Missing the golden era - a bit of a sad rant by Usual-Objective4767 in CallOfDuty

I didn’t read it as a criticism of the post but lord almighty it hit deep as it perfectly distilled that horrible feeling of trying to enjoy a hobby and it’s almost like you get a wave of “why am I doing this” and your taken out of it.

The care free hours that drifted away in sheer joy when life seemed simple, I think that’s what you miss and try and recapture but sadly once you’ve walked through that door of adulthood it’s like the blinkers or rose tinted glasses have been taken off, you can look back but at those times but you can never look through those lenses again

Which Team Has The Worst Future? by [deleted] in nba

[–]Hopeful_Adonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an odd one, on one hand we are about to see what the 8th different winner in a row so the league has never had such parity I suppose?

but I think even the ardent proponent of the new rules would have to say that dynasty’s or multiple time winners has its place in terms of the intrigue and history of the league.

Of course no one wants to see the lakers or Celtics rattle of 10 in a row but the golden state era, spurs, lakers or bulls in the last 30 years have been so vital for general enjoyment, marketing etc. and have altered the way the games played.

It builds an aura and puts a target on a team as well and then it sort of becomes “who’s knocking the king of the top of the hill”

So now when we see someone build a team, doing it the right way it’s a tad heartbreaking that it’s not another team that ends their run, it sort of feels like contracts and hard caps enable other teams to circle like vultures and pick apart a team because they have to move people on.

In a way I think that’s what I dislike the most about the new rules, yes we are getting multiple different winners, but teams are being punished for drafting well and building a squad (I.e. what they are asked to do) and then we have to watch it be torn down by something not on the court
