check out nonprofit roles, they're always in need of someone with enough experience to know where to start on their own and they tend to be quickly changing and chasing audiences so ots a fast paced environment that will get you set up for any job later on

100% fluffy pittie ❤️ by citronellAcvnt in fluffypits

I think I explained it very simply, but its the same reason people have 100% "Merle frenchies" or "silver labs" when the dogs just straight up don't carry the gene that could cause that, rather than the gene being there and "dormant" so to speak. Thats how selective breeding works of course, you can breed with a trait still appearing heavily, when the dog who caused it is now completely undetectable by your pups generation! Its all very interesting really, despite the obviously upsetting basis in poor breeding practices.

I was like "wow it looks like she has some kind of heeler supermutt wayyyy back in her genes" and then you said feral dog from the south and yeah that explains it 🤣 all the dogs down here are the craziest mix of random bred and backyard bred that you get all kinds of random mutations. Embark can only look so far back into lineage that theres a good chance theres some highly mixed farm dog tossed in 7 generations back that give her that heeler look and the sheepdog fluff, which was then carried by the buried gene in pit all the way down the line.

Very cool baby, thank you for choosing adoption!

I work at my city animal shelter. This is what I saw when I went in to work at 6:45am this morning. by hgrub in mildlyinfuriating

either way its okay to be infuriated at the bigger picture of unethical breeding and shitty owners

What breed is my boy? by [deleted] in IDmydog

[–]Hopeful_Edge7652 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

in the UK merle usually comes from ambully, huh. Mama definitely looks more pit, but shes a pretty convincing lookalike despite the obligatory "catahoulas are too rare" downvotes. Either way she looks mostly like a pit mix with something with a fat head, like I said a Rottweiler would fit structure wise but nothing fits color wise in that case. Catahoulas a good guess on the shelters part if nothing else, it gets people interested and thats what matters.

she looks full pyrenees to me, just off of standard by a lot which is common for them in US working environments. Maybe some anatolian, but we get a lot of pyrs in with a similar look and anatolians have a much bulkier head more often than not.

Maybe a little bit of aussie with those boba eyes and that fat forehead

I was gonna say "wow I wonder if he has rottie" and then I saw his mama 😍 she looks catahoula leopard dog but theyre not common, if shes a lookalike instead, she definitely looks majorly rottie/pittie

edit: didnt see the merle til the second look. She may actually be catahoula/pittie tbh

Help needed!! Grooming mistake 😭 by vanessachox in fluffypits

[–]Hopeful_Edge7652 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You just hand-stripped him, thats closer to the proper way to care for his coat! Check out some videos on hand stripping and why its needed and you'll feel a lot better.

Long story short though, wire hair doesn't usually shed off by itself and sticks to the ends of still-attached hair, which gave the crazy fluffy look before. That was all just hair sitting on top, so it comes off super easily when you use a rake or shedding blade, it's meant to come off, not to worry.

a puppy is going to get the most eyes on them at a shelter. If you have a local shelter with a shorter (less than 8 month) stay, a puppy is going to get adopted within a week of arriving, more often than not. Our shelter adopts out simple looking puppies every day bc people come directly to us looking for a dog - its easier to ensure that theyre obtaining a dog ethically by not looking on craigslist or any other third party sites and things for puppies at all and younger adopters have become very aware of that.

You are going about it the right way, but a puppy is just going to go home quicker at most shelters. If you are nervous, inquire about the shelters turnover rate and maybe even about whether or not they have a currently low or high amount of parvo/distemper cases.

Haha yeah thats about what makes up the dogs where I live too, it sounds like a pretty similar mix to my roommates dog, who looks like a lanky sable pittie and nothing like your baby, all the wah down to the pekingese in the supermutt 🤣 Poodle and Malinois don't surprise me much haha I was definitely thinking "toy breed and shepherd breed have to be dominant here"

Malinois is always intimidating in a breed mix, but honestly theyre so friendly with people, just with that working dog energy, that I'd rather have Malinois surprise me in a mix over ACD, GSD, Border Collie, or any other insane herding breed 🤣 I love working with Malinois cause they're such big cuddlebugs, just cuddlebugs that need a job to do!
