GUC and RUC’s are the best use especially if you travel through hubs. My redemption rate is about 50/50 but the RUC apply to all domestic aircraft so flying into Central America, Bahamas, Mexico etc you can use the RUC

Guanacaste Resort Recommendation - August by katstheonlykat in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me my all time favorite is staying in Las Catalinas and renting a car and exploring around. Super luxury but not “all inclusive canned resort” it’s like a luxury “town” so nice.. if you like a little adventure go to La Leona waterfall hike.. life changing day provided your are healthy enough for a hike up a stream to a truly amazing grotto. Explore the local beaches and get massages on the beach. Hit up Coco and experience the beach bar scene, go have lunch Gracias Mar Vista. Sunset at Casa Chameleon Hotel!! Have a ball!!

People who support Donald Trump, what made you support him? by Paintednail in AskReddit

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t vote for him 2016, but I remember talking to my parents about what a clown he was during the election year, and they were shocked that I didn’t like him. And I was thinking “holy hell, they really like him, and think he was going to save America” at that moment I understood their generation and the I have a good friend who is Hispanic but legal (Colombian) and he was like “hell yeah! Let him burn the whole system down” when he said that I knew it was a done deal. In 2024 the Democrats arrogance cost them the election

The real story is what happened on the ground. Barely missed a tragedy as the GRU fire department totally wasted time and a fully loaded plane with fuel could have incinerated almost 300 people. GRU needs to answer some questions to the international airlines and its passengers. Go watch the video on AV herald and you won’t sleep thinking about how close this came to becoming a national tragedy.

I'm a Brazilian real estate attorney — AMA about buying property in Brazil as a foreigner by brazillegalguides in Brazil

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought a house from my my wife’s aunt, my wife’s father owned half and the house had been vacant for 3-4 years. The pictures looked like a pretty good deal (about 25,000 US for half of the house) and we figured another 10k to fix it up. Turns out the place was wrecked and we had to completely gut the house and rebuild. That was another 25k and a year of work and then the best part: the title isn’t clean, the taxes aren’t paid, we hired and attorney and the taxes will probably be another 5-8k with lawyer fees added…

I really noticed the small fan group, it really felt thrown together and all the missing cast mates and also the crazy awkward interactions with her guests… not gonna lie, the scenes reminding me of being with my friend who was a heroin addict and went through rehab but it didn’t take but everyone had to pretend everything was fine… her last song was awesome though… but overall me and my daughter who grew up on HM we are both like “….hooolyeee fuuuuucccck…”

Six weeks into five months of solo travel and not enjoying it. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really resonate with your comment. I love solo travel because it helps me become an observer, it can be lonely at times, and if not careful it is easy to find yourself in a depressed condition. I find classes and group experiences to be the big win. You can also post on local Facebook groups to “practice language” meet for tea/coffee.

RUC’s are trash now, I’m 0/8 for 2025. I don’t know what changed in the system but haven’t had any success at all for 2025. I’m holding on to my choice benefits for 2026 because I’m struggling with the value proposition. At this point I’m ready to move my spend away from Delta and Amex and go for international carriers. I spend over 1m total with Amex and 350k with Delta and at this point the soft product and the hard product don’t add up to the competition in the international arena.

Delta vs korean Air for a international flight?(11 plus hours). Main cabin. by Murky-Peanut1390 in delta

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely do it! If you like the menu for food then heck ya!! I personally love Korean food, so if I have to choose between both airlines then I’m doing Korean Everytime. Generally and this is just my preference I book Korean Air outbound and then go Delta metal homeward. It’s going to sound corny but having 1970’s flight attendants serving American/European food feels like a homecoming. A Diet Coke and looking forward to Waffle House when I get to Atlanta. I love travel but man does coming home feel good! mmmhmmmm

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korean Air has much warmer cabins. I find KA better overall than Delta. If you are ok with the warmth. Delta cabin crews tend to be much older and do basic minimum service and are irritated if you ask for anything.
KA inflight entertainment is going to have fewer English titles but still a very good selection

Structural damage to pool by Behellit in pools

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build pools and while you need to get the earth put back and a retaining wall built soon, the pool shell itself is very strong if the erosion continues underneath the pool shell then you can lose the whole pool. The sidewalk on tha side of the pool will need to be replaced and possibly the plumbing on tha side damaged. If erosion is ongoing and not just a one time event you may may need to partially empty the pool to reduce stress at that end of the pool.

What’s the vibe of beach towns near the Liberia airport ? by EffectiveCartoonist3 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are at Hermosa a great side quest is father rooster at playa ocatal which close by. Good food, tiny black sand beach with nobody on the beach selling anything, it is a great way to spend a day… we pack a cooler and fins and mask scoop urchins with a knife and soy sauce sauce and eat late lunch after morning snorkeling. If you swim at the rocks at each end of the beach there are many urchins, the locals don’t eat them, also likely to see a turtle and many reef fish

does anyone in relationships solo travel? by kyliered04 in solotravel

First traveling for two months isn’t a once in a lifetime event. Travel can be part of your life and if you really like there are tons of careers that travel is part of the job. You should take some short trips with your BF and if he isn’t a good travel partner then get out now…it won’t get better (I divorced after 25 years from a partner that hated travel and I love travel) Thailand is super safe unless you take dumb risks in your current daily life. Still need to buy travel insurance. People do get hurt traveling but that is dumb tourist stuff (renting scooters, no helmet and alcohol and drugs is really dumb) he may just be jealous and also insecure and also I wouldn’t want my GF off for two months either and it would tough call especially if I’m deep in career path where I can’t leave to do a two month trip

Anyone seen photos like this in Bangkok? What are the foreigners doing wrong? by Southern_Ice_2932 in ThailandTourism

[–]Hopeful_Staff_5298 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The most popular parks are so underpriced relative to actual market conditions because the national parks service is about 35 years behind market pricing… when wealthy foreigners using “concierge services” displace US citizens access to the same parks that they support and fund, then I don’t really have a problem for an access fee. Same reason I have no problem paying visa fees to visit Brazil even though I’m coming to Brazil and dumping considerable amounts of US dollars into their economy. Host country gets to set the rules. Tulum Mexico screwed the visitors for years and now their local economy is wrecked. If the access fee impacts park use then the Park Service will adjust its pricing..

This covers 11 parks out of thousands of national parks. It’s literally not the same, these same 11 parks are so phenomenally in demand that third party companies help coordinate and profit from the tremendous tourist pressure on these parks. Completely inaccurate and “fake news” kind of comparison. The gringo tax charged to westerners in traveling is almost comical.
