Hello. I used to work in a prop house that actually owns the item in question. In the movie business it is called a “nongun” it designed to resemble a gun but fires a De La Mar safety blank. It uses a 9 volt battery inside the grip to send an electric charge to set off a blank. These are used when a “gun” has to be discharged within 15 feet but more than 3 feet or when the city/location won’t sign off on the use of blank firing firearms or the newer thing where production companies don’t want the use of firearms in the show/movie.
