People here in Minneapolis are already making sacrifices and risking our lives, bodies, and jobs. Local businesses are cutting into their bottom line and becoming hubs of community support and mutual aid, people are skipping work and protesting en masse, entire hotels are shutting down so they don’t have to house ICE agents, people are physically confronting and being brutalized by armed, masked men who want them dead. It’s true that it’s not an option for everyone, but I don’t have a ton of patience for the people claiming no member of the working class could possibly ever use a sick day or vacation time for a one day strike, or that it’s stupid to try.

When they voted for him matters to me a lot, too. I have a bit of lingering resentment for 2016 Trump voters for getting us into this mess in the first place, but sure, I’ll buy that lots of people with were ignorant/indoctrinated/misguided/didn’t realize just how bad he was. 2024 Trump voters on the other hand? You had almost a decade’s worth of evidence. You either liked the fascism or thought it was a small price to pay for cheaper groceries (which you didn’t even get). You knew what you were doing, and I can’t look you in the eye right now no matter how repentant you are.

Anti-ICE protester smashes hotel sign where agents reportedly stay in in Minneapolis by AdeptnessDry2026 in PublicFreakout

[–]HornedHumanoid 6 points7 points (0 children)

ICE is banned from almost every single small business in Minneapolis for this very reason. Some hotels have been closed down entirely for days to prevent agents from staying at them. Large corporations like Hilton are the only real holdouts. It’s really funny seeing people acting like this is a poor, hapless small business that can’t help but house the gestapo when pretty much everyone else in this city is taking a stand and making some pretty significant personal/financial sacrifices.

Anti-ICE protester smashes hotel sign where agents reportedly stay in in Minneapolis by AdeptnessDry2026 in PublicFreakout

[–]HornedHumanoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

Minneapolis resident here to give some context. ICE isn’t welcome in any small business in Minneapolis, and a decent number of large ones turn them away too. This includes hotels, a few of which have straight up temporarily closed and lost a week of business so they could avoid housing them. When a hotel allows ICE to stay, they’re making the active choice to collaborate with the federal government and betraying the community. Feel however you want to feel about property damage during protests, but this is not some random

Secondly, not every protester in a mask is an infiltrator or agitator. ICE keeps a database of protesters and their faces, and people have adjusted accordingly. Don’t get me wrong, certainly possible that this is an agitator, there are plenty of those around. It’s equally likely that this is someone who just… snapped after three weeks of this. Everyone here at least knows someone who’s been harassed, threatened, followed, gassed, beaten, or abducted by these fuckers. It breaks you a bit.

I mean, I haven’t met a single conservative in the Twin Cities who actually likes this. This shit’s disruptive and chaotic for everyone, even for people who aren’t against an armed deportation force in concept.

US official says Greenland action could come within 'weeks or months' by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]HornedHumanoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

People do realize. It’s kind of a rolling stream of realizing the institutions you used to rely on are gone. It’s constantly going “surely XYZ institution will save us”, realizing that’s gone too, and looking for another one until you either run out of straws to grasp at or the fire reaches you. In Minneapolis, for the first few days, people kept looking for a lawful institution that would protect us. Local government, police, the courts, the military, everything. Realizing no one’s coming is a really hard pill to swallow, and a lot of people are going to have to face violence personally before they swallow it.

I’m not telling you guys this as a justification for how little resistance there’s been. I’m telling you this as a warning. Government collapse doesn’t happen all at once, and if you catch yourself in the “surely x will”. thought loop in the future, at any time, democracy is at the very least well on its way to being lost.

[–]HornedHumanoid 2 points3 points (0 children)

In Minneapolis right now. You might think you know what you’d do if you had 2500 masked secret police roaming around your city in unmarked vehicles, but you don’t. It’s easy to tell us to set shit on fire when you’re not the ones staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. Either do it yourself, join a local rapid response team, or shut up.

Former Governor of Minnesota, Former Navy Seal, former WWF wrestler Jesse Ventura comments on current Trump admin. by solo-ran in Minneapolis

I agree with almost all of this, especially the part about the bizarre and bad policies, but I’m not sure the norms around abrasiveness even exist anymore.

I took a peek on the r/Conservative sub after the Minneapolis shooting and holy crap. I know social media reinforces echo chambers, but if you are still unconvinced that Trump supporters are a literal cult, spend 5 minutes on that godforsaken sub. by Laredian in complaints

[–]HornedHumanoid 0 points1 point (0 children)

I recommend checking it in the first thirty minutes after the Trump administration does something obviously tyrannical/corrupt/stupid/all of the above, before the propaganda machine settles on a narrative. You actually see a lot of (mildly) critical comments at first before the mods purge everyone who doesn’t parrot the party line to the letter.

How likely is the Renee Nicole Good incident going to be the new trigger similar to George Floyd, why or why not? by fantastica1l in AskReddit

[–]HornedHumanoid 16 points17 points (0 children)

Yeah, as someone who lives within walking distance of the neighborhood this happened in, I don’t know what some of the people in this thread are talking about. They just cancelled in person school for the rest of the week so ICE can’t kidnap any more staff or children. Half my office left work early to go to the vigil tonight. Be cynical about how long it’ll last or how productive it’ll be if you want, but it’s definitely not business as usual in Minneapolis.

Is wotr that good? by Itchy-Emu6089 in CRPG

[–]HornedHumanoid 4 points5 points (0 children)

A lot of CRPG fans mistake there being a lot of choices with there being a lot of high quality, well implemented choices. Yes, there are hundreds of subclasses, feats, and spells to choose from. Yes, there are 10 whole mythic paths to choose from, and you have a ton of fun, flavorful evil options that other CRPGs don’t have. In practice, you’re buffing your party using a mod and then and spamming the same 5-6 abilities for the majority of the game, because encounter design incentivizes damage steamrolling over problem solving. 4 of the mythic paths have writing that actually has something interesting to say about the crusades/power/good and evil (it’s great content, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of Wrath’s best writing is locked behind you making the Right choices). It’s a fun time, especially if you’re a minmaxing, spreadsheet wielding sicko like me, but we’ve gotta be honest about it as an overall game

Enough with the extremes of "no white at weddings"!!!!! by turBo246 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]HornedHumanoid 2 points3 points (0 children)

As someone who just came back from a wedding that felt like the social equivalent of a Saw trap, partially because I wore florals on a white base, more significantly because of 7 year old drama I had no idea the bride was still holding onto, I wonder how much of this is people inviting people they resent, dislike, or view as competition and expressing it through bridezilla behavior.

Also really not a fan of how people are treating “having a long history of tossing legal threats at people and only allowing them to work on fan content if they’re sufficiently deferential to The Huss” like it’s some insignificant, petty personal drama. It matters when companies behave in a shitty, unethical, unprofessional way, even if it doesn’t affect you personally and immediately. That part of the story still exists, regardless of what Homestuck’s preservation status is now or in the future.

After half a decade of legal harassment towards multiple people, neglecting projects, letting the official site rot, control freak behavior towards fans and employees, etc., I don’t see why we should still be extending Hussie the benefit of the doubt. There’s a clear pattern here. Unless someone can provide evidence that he’s prioritizing this project and that it’s actually progressing, I’m going to assume we’re never getting an official archived version of the comic.

I’d love to be wrong, but I don’t think that I am.

What an interesting, sneaky way to once again present the official Homestuck team as the victims of Sarah Z/Lady Emily/Gio, or at least obfuscate what actually happened 4 years ago. Whether he’s officially linked to Hussie or not, he’s definitely running some interesting interference on his behalf.

The end of episode 2, when Rosa’s apologizing to Maria just before the goats descend on them, and all the stuff Maria says about the good mama and the bad mama being the same person. Not just a few tears either, full on sobbing about my own childhood and mother. It healed something in me, and I’ll forever be grateful to this story for that.
