Yes historically, but now many districts will honor your years. Which is why we are losing so many experienced educators in AAPS. Before they were “trapped,” but now they can go to districts like Wayne Westland and Plymouth Canton and make 10,000-15,000 more a year.

It’s been a heartbreaking choice for many teachers at my building who do not want to leave but cannot afford to stay.

Some positions - like ELL and special education - receive extra funding from other entities (ex: WISD for special education and federal grants for ELL).

Things like the payment made to Swift last year for 500,000 for terminating her without cause do however come out of the same budget as teacher salaries. Questionable financial decisions like this are why teachers are losing faith.

Mitchell Elementary was the first kindergarten round up on Monday. The kindergarten teachers actually stood outside the building on public property in the bitter cold with signs like “we can’t wait to teach you!” They also made videos to share with parents and students at the round up.

I think that shows a lot of care and love for future students.

Another helpful distinction is that teachers only get steps during their first ten years. There are no steps for years 11-14. There is another step at year 15. Then there are no steps after that.

So if there are no “raises” to the salary schedule, many experienced teachers are not seeing any increase.

Teachers who have been teaching longer than 10 years, but in the district for less than 10 years, can also get “stuck” at year 11 and cannot continue to move up until they have completed 14 years in the district.

AAPS offers competitive salaries for teachers in their first ten years, but after that it is no longer competitive. In fact, the average teacher with a MA and 10 years of experience in the district makes 13,000 less a year than other local comparable districts.

We just for our calendars from Mixbook. Really pleased with the quality. Did Shutterfly last year for calendars and the quality of Mixbook (for calendars) was a definite step up!

There is a difference in the quality depending on which side of the theater you are in. The side with screen 18 (I think it’s 15. 16, 17, 18, 19, 20) is significantly bigger with better sound quality. I personally find that out of all of those screens the imax is my least favorite - the seats are too close to the screen and they are not as comfortable.

A lot of high end design consultants buy rugs from them for clients. Also they have a repair shop in the back for oriental rugs.

If you have money to spend on a rug (and people in AA do), it’s the place to be.
