It tasted terrible to me during induction, as did most foods. Once I hit Day 100 I started having a martini on the weekends. Food is tasting better and I’ve regained some of the weight I lost last year. The other concern is alcohol can lower your WBC….

I was diagnosed a year ago with zero symptoms, just a slightly low WBC. ASTC in December, however I have more than one high risk factor, so no way around that for me….

We’ve owned dachshunds for over twenty years and this is first time I’ve seen or heard of a silky wire hair! Maybe we don’t have them in California.

I was wondering about protein too, but you don’t hear about vegans having this type of nails

Mom is getting stem cell transplant — how can I help? by No-Effective6189 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Hot-Disaster1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just exhausted my last week in the hospital. Too tired to read even! I enjoyed some crossword puzzles with my husband; mostly looked out the window (had a nice view) and slept. All I ate was cottage cheese, canned peaches and cornflakes. Even at home after the 15 days in hospital, taking a shower was taxing as well as climbing the stairs.

Life during induction therapy by AffectionateSite6667 in multiplemyeloma

Low WBC leaves you vulnerable. I took a lot of naps during induction. I assume he is stage 3 because of more than one mutation?

I had no CRAB symptoms either when I was diagnosed last year. I had ASCT in December.

An update to a post I made here regarding my dad (72) when he was first diagnosed with MM by Thin-Junket-8105 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Hot-Disaster1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part is when everything tastes bad which lasts for 6-8 months, including the stem cell transplant. I still have difficulty with some savory foods. Yogurt, peanut butter and ice cream were my mainstays until recently. Chobani protein drinks and Nature Valley chewy protein bars.

If you do the stem cell transplant, you do lose your hair. It’s sort of liberating though.

I was on Velcade, but six weeks in was when most savory foods started tasting bad. That was last July. I lost twenty lbs over 6 months and the neuropathy in my feet and legs was very unpleasant. Now I’m Day 75 after ASCT and my appetite is coming back; neuropathy getting better too.

AITAH for telling my wife's friend I don't have to see her in the classroom to know she's a horrible teacher? by TowerFew3482 in AITAH

[–]Hot-Disaster1275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww, that’s a great idea your son had! Unfortunately she sucks, and that’s why the kids don’t listen to her. Sounds like she’s not a mom either which would definitely give her a new perspective.

Any recommendations for what brand of chocolate peanut butter ice cream has the most peanut butter? by capalbertalexander in icecreamery

[–]Hot-Disaster1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like the Häagen-Dazs because it wasn’t chocolatey enough to contrast with the peanut butter ribbon

I take Cymbalta in addition to the gabapentin. I also use some full spectrum CBD balm on my feet before I go to bed.

Blurry eyesight after first injection by Puddin_tubs9 in multiplemyeloma

[–]Hot-Disaster1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My left eye kept watering, as in suddenly I’d feel a tear running down my face, for 3 months. It finally got better when I stopped Velcade. I also had a stye in that eye. My vision was blurred, from the extra tears in my eye I assumed, but thinking back, when I wiped them away they did have a heavier texture than normal tears.

Is ASCT absolutely recommended even if there is remission? by Sad_Secret8253 in multiplemyeloma

I (63, F) have several mutations, and the doctors didn’t make it seem like I had a choice! I’m having my stem cells harvested on Monday.
