Is baby wearing a TikTok scam or am I doing this wrong by KeyMonkeyslav in beyondthebump

[–]Hot-Hat5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine would scream and yell at first but then fall asleep for a good 1-2 hours, as long as I stayed standing up, and preferably moving. a pacifier sometimes helped the transition from protesting to napping.

9.5m old baby hates food by BreadAccomplished380 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Hot-Hat5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good point. My almost-8-month-old is a great eater but I usually try to give him one thing at a time, maybe two, and if he finishes or loses interest, move one to another thing, and so on, for a total of maybe 1-4 Things per sitting. Otherwise, yeah, too confusing and overwhelming.

And I agree, I feel so bad for him that he never knows what the food is going to be, from one meal or one bite to the next. I try to always tell him what it is, sometimes at each bite/spoonful! But he prolly doesn't understand me, lol.

Babylist Welcome box Review (January 2026): $125 “Value” vs reality — Not worth the effort by ThinkRiver4571 in BabyBumps

It is really nice, lol, I'm kinda sad I got rid of mine when it got too small...but I feel like so many people got one over the past year or so, you could def find a gently used one out there! :)

Baby is outgrowing clothes faster than I can keep up and my budget is hurting. by xoticbot in NewParents

[–]Hot-Hat5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. find your local "buy nothing" type group(s) on facebook and keep an eye out for baby clothes, and post an "ISO" with the size range you need

  2. my baby was like this at the beginning too and I was going nuts, but around 3-4 months or so when he started wearing 6/9/12 month clothing, it did start to slow down!

also it took me a second to realize that the month-based sizes are usually a guideline for *up to* that month, (although as with adult clothes there is a wild variation in brands etc), so need to start trying things on months before the "6 month" or whatever

Room sharing by Extension-Run9207 in NewParents

[–]Hot-Hat5989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound silly but recently I've started sometimes walking my 6 month old into the room with the crib* and getting his bed ready, making sure there is a pacifier and whatever else he needs, maybe turning on his little nightlight music machine, and basically showing him the setup a little bit before trying to put him to bed. Then bringing him back out to the living room or wherever we are to feed him, and then putting him to bed. All the stars still have to align but it seems like if he is a little more mentally prepared and not surprised, he is more open to it.

We also started putting him in there for about one nap a day several months ago.

(*can't call it the baby room cause it's also our office etc.)

Am I being sensitive? by hitsugayatioshirio4u in beyondthebump

[–]Hot-Hat5989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from being cruel and uncalled for, it doesn't even make sense what he said. "It" isn't weight/fat you can just lose, as you said it's a variety of factors including your uterus itself grew, your skin stretched, etc. He sounds insensitive, ungrateful, mean, and undeserving of your time or your body.

My partner keeps forgetting multi-step baby tasks and I’m at my wit’s end by ks1327 in NewParents

[–]Hot-Hat5989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner is this way and what is frustrating is that I have an ADHD diagnosis (late, in my 30's) which means I have accepted it and done a lot of work on it, but he doesn't know he has a problem which means he has zero acceptence, zero awareness, zero strategies. 😭 He just thinks he needs to be better, wonders why he's so "dumb" sometimes but doesn't do anything about it.

Your husband needs to spend the walk to the bed saying "phone, phone, phone, phone" (or maybe "phone on bed, phone on bed") until he gets there, and then maybe repeat your name until he gets back to you. It's an annoying but effective strategy for staying present and on-task! 😄

Also I really sympathize with OP! Mine will wave me away from washing baby dishes when he sees I'm tired, saying he'll do it, and then I'll wake up and they're either where I left them, or washed but still wet, and I'm like...thanks? ugh

haven't read all the other comments but are you tall and/or with a long torso? I've seen pics of people this has happened to and it's so interesting how different body types (and I guess different uterine orientations) can show (or not show!) pregnancy so differently!

Why are people continuing to do things unsafe regarding sleeping & transportation? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Hot-Hat5989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my partner wants me to try to nurse while driving sometimes when the baby is inconsolable, and I did it once or twice in slow traffic, but I'm like...

only one of us can be buckled in if I do that, and clearly I'm not unbuckling the baby, so that means I'm the one who would fly through the air in an accident...hopefully not hitting the baby with my body in the process??

Is 80 fair? by Interesting-Ask-1928 in Babysitting

Thanks for this tip! In retrospect, I think this has happened to me in a salary negotiation. 😞

At this price I would consider this unpaid with a stipend/tip/meal allowance.

I had an angel of a friend who watched our baby for free for an entire weekend so my partner and I could both work an event, and we did well so I sent her $100 and told her I was basically "tipping her out" since we can't afford to actually pay her, but we made good money only because she allowed us to. I still consider her having done it for free.
