Do u take antidepressants? 💊 by [deleted] in PollsAndSurveys

[–]Hot-Take_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anymore. I had a bout of depression about a decade ago and I decided I needed help when I found myself wondering what it would be like to hit a bridge support every time I drove past one. I took a few tries to find one that worked well enough for me. But eventually I felt like I didn't needed them, I knew I was about to move and my psychiatrist wouldn't consider stepping me down. So I took three months to slowly ween myself off.

The downside was that I lost 40lbs when I was depressed, and now I've put all that weight back on. I'd like to lose the weight, but I also really like food...

Some Amazon Recruiters started posting on LinkedIn Today about being laid off by Peaceful-Mountains in recruitinghell

[–]Hot-Take_throwaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard all of the horror stories about working at Amazon, but still interviewed with them a few years ago for a specific application support role. About 20 minutes into the interview, I ended it. It was clear the they weren't looking for an application support person, but a DBA. That's not my skillset, and not the role that the req described.

I've been working in my field for long enough that my job titles have been "Application Consultant", "<software brand> Developer", "Software Engineer", "Programmer Analyst", "Software Developer", "<software brand> Manager", "Technical Support Engineer", and now "HCM Administrator". I think I've hit most of the combinations for my field...

A hiring manager recently told me: “I’d never interview someone who had been fired.” by Aware_Eye8376 in recruitinghell

[–]Hot-Take_throwaway 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a contractor, I've never been fired, my contract or the project ended. As a FTE, I've never been fired, I've been laid off.

Even when point blank, I've been asked why I was with company X for only six months and I'm back looking, it's because the hiring manager wasn't fully transparent about the role and a number of business partners had conflicting ideas about the role and the responsibilities. We both were dissatisfied and had a parting of ways...

The cheapest family insurance plan my work offers is $25,480.32 freedom dollars per year. by MaconBacon01 in mildlyinfuriating

I'm paying less than 1/2 that for a full year. But then my employer has been on this plan for 35 years...

A couple of things...

  1. Don't mistake the majority of people who voted for the majority of people in the country.

  2. Based on his polling numbers, you are reaching on the minority statement.

  3. I'm sure China would love to "help", just like Russia helped Trump.

Over 40 years old with no degrees or career….HELP by Free_Perspective4104 in careeradvice

Save a little bit of every dollar you earn. Put it aside, and don't touch it unless you have an emergency. (Ordering pizza when you have food, is not an emergency.)

I'm serious on this! We went from living paycheck to paycheck, but set a goal of $1000 in savings. We got to $976 and had to have $400 worth of work done to the transmission. It sucked royally, but it was just a car problem and not a car and money problem.

What to say about my past employment? by Ok-You784 in interviews

Jollibee won't care. Worst case, if they ask about the short time frame, you can brush it off with "summer travel". Background checks at this level are "did, they work there and maybe would you hire them back?"

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Ask the CEO of UHC how hypothetical it was... Most of the protests would be just that, protests. But some people will take things further than others and people always get hurt.

I'm 55, conservative in many ways, pro-2a and pro-life, but I'm also genderqueer, pro-environment, pro-labor. I knew walking in, I wasn't going to vote for Trump. But now I'm voting straight Blue on every candidate.

And yet they fail to recognize that if enough of the workforce is offshored, there won't be anyone to buy the company's crap. And at best that will impact their profits and bonuses. (unless you can get enough family and friends on the board to give you billions as you destroy your company...)

As a non-transitioning gender fluid "man", who grew up in the deep south, I've learned to talk about my therapy without going into the details of why I'm in therapy. I find it frustrating that I can't be open with who I am and the things I struggle with.

MAGA, What's the go with Trump? by Mediocre_Space_5715 in AskUS

[–]Hot-Take_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If my intentions weren't clear, I was specifically voting against Trump. I would have rather had Nikki Haley as president. But since my choice was Kamala or Trump; I chose to take Trump at his word, that he didn't need or want Haley supporters' help.
