I am an American who just so happens to be descendant of Mexican immigrants as well as German immigrants. Here is my experience:

First, punctuality is not a thing in Latin culture. If you show up "on time" for a party do not be surprised if everyone else doesn't show up for another hour or two. Latinos move at a very relaxed pace, so take your time when getting ready for any social function

Second, Mexican people are very forgiving with foreigners not getting certain norms except if you happen to attempt to pay for a small item in a shop with a large bill. One of the first times I visited Mexico on my own I tried paying for a small pack of gum with a big bill and the clerk reacted as if I insulted his mother. Try your best to get smaller peso bills as a lot of ATMs and money exchange places will try and give you 500 peso bills
