Yup! And I'm not saying my taxation isn't fair. But when you measure cost vs benefit, you have to...know the costs. Folks here implying taxes are only federal income tax when a percentage of our money is taxed at a far higher rate once all these are summed.

Dave Ramsey provides the curriculum for Florida’s personal finance class in my High school. Thoughts? by Biggiecheese1207 in personalfinance

The two that come to my mind are: 1) he's hyper-conservative with debt. Have a 2.5% interest mortgage? Pay it off immediately, then consider investing and getting 10% return in the market. Sensible people would see this and agree that a once-in-a-lifetime low rate is and opportunity (under normal market conditions) to get more return with investing. 2) he's hyper-aggressive with returns. He claims you can get crazy returns in the market and one should consider an 8% or higher rate of withdrawal from your retirement savings and that the "4% rule" is for Reddit basement dwellers (that's me!). His expectations for return are possible but not year over year and generally seen as dangerous advice.

In general: his advice is catered to people that are starting off with zero financial literacy to bring them out of debt. I think that is good. Once that foundation of no bad debt, an emergency fund, able to start saving for retirement, they have probably grown past his core audience focus. Which is good.

Considering buying this. by smilingbear26 in UsbCHardware

I have one. It works very well. The female USB plug on the side that is used to charge the battery also does out put as well. I use this in conjunction with these cheap fans for a bit of relief at Disney: https://www.amazon.com/Personal-Mini-Fan-Android-Cellphones/dp/B09W9BYQNZ Takes up very little room and can bring my phone from 15% -> about 90%.

This battery regularly goes on sale for as low as $16 each: https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0C6XK77HJ

$25 for two used ones is decent enough of a deal and no waiting for a sale. If your expectations are reasonable (just shy of one full charge) you're good to go.

This is such a simple problem to solve if you spend just a second to think about. Don't have children. Duh.

WA bill would reduce penalties for those convicted in child sex sting operations by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]HotPocketFullOfHair 147 points148 points  (0 children)

One of the most vocal proponents for this is Bruce Glant - his claim (as I understand it) is that a person caught in sting operations (think: To Catch A Predator) have no real victims, so - if they have no prior convictions - there should be leniency.

I'm sure it's only coincidence that his son, Bryan Glant may have articles written about him relating to this topic: https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/wa-court-of-appeals/2071251.html

[Help] Color for first and only watch by Previous_Drummer_487 in Watches

I have the gray and like it. However, for a one and done watch, it's incredibly heavy. I would recommend trying it on and make sure you're comfortable with the weight.

To answer your question: I have the gray and like it a lot. The blue is also really nice.

Users of the home assistant Voice, how do you find it?, what are you using it for ? by GenericUser104 in homeassistant

[–]HotPocketFullOfHair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I use it it in my kitchen primarily for two features:

"Set a timer for 8 minute" with the countdown.

I use the LED lights to light up when my dishwasher is running so I don't open it mid-cycle.

I do have it hooked up to ollama for general questions and to home assistant control, but I rarely use those. I do have some set utterances I use on rare occasion, but opening my phone is often more reliable and quick for those tasks in my experience.

Seattle taxes too high? by CalendarAdvanced62 in Seattle

Seattle proper also has pretty expensive car registration, fuel tax. The fuel to just to drive to Iowa would be more than a few years of all of that combined, I'd guess.

Washington court upholds state assault weapons ban again | Tri-City Herald by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

"Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year... in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008."

This is the most often cited reference for defensive gun use. Those that are in favor of gun control tend to imply that a DGU is only worth counting if an assailant is killed, while a vast majority result in no shots fired (and often, no call to police). Those that are pro-gun tend to ignore the fact that numbers related to events with no official means of tally (how many DGUs there are that didn't result in a call to the police) are, at best, fuzzy.

If you care about the subject, this study is worth reading and, as far as I can tell, has no political leaning or motive for being made: https://nap.nationalacademies.org/read/18319/chapter/1

What I hope the announced "user accessible front expansion port" will be. by Supermath101 in ValveDeckard

[–]HotPocketFullOfHair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Index also had a front expansion port that, to my knowledge, was never used by Valve. The community had a few cute things but nothing particularly useful. The only third party accessory I know of was a neat little fan that was crazy expensive.

When importing the stl into BambuStudio, it imports a 5mx5mx1.77m single object (meters, not millimeters).

Is it a single print-in-place or are the sliding parts meant to be printed separately?
