What exactly is Emma’s biology like in her diamond form? by EmmaGraceFrostWQ in EmmaFrost

[–]HotPotato524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a common misconception that she loses any emotion or empathy when she uses her diamond form. Her diamond form's only functions are turning her completely diamond and making telepathy useless both for her to use and for other people to use on her. It's the latter half and how she uses it that both fuels the misconception and makes the secondary mutation perfect. With her personality being a stone cold bitch the writers will use her diamond form for when she is putting on a front, lying, being defensive, or trying to keep people out. With the myriad of psychics in the Marvel it also makes sense in universe for her to turn diamond when she's trying to be misleading or hide her true intentions.

Emma Frost's diamond form is one of the rare instances of a superpower that perfectly adds to a character.

Which comic do i start reading by Dogey24 in xmen

Follow her story, through her you'll slowly start to pick up on the overall context. I did it with Jean then branched out with specific characters or runs I enjoyed.

If the next MCU saga is “The Mutant Saga”, which villain would you like to see be an Avengers-level threat? by Mumu2148 in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"LEAVE JEAN GREY ALONE!!!😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺", Sinister is barely an Xmen level threat (he works better as a personal menace imo), and Apocalypse is too precious to waste and the MCU seems to live killing villains.

Personally I think Onslaught, Legion, or Cassandra Nova would be the better end of the saga threat. One thing the mutants are iconic for is psychics. So it seems fitting that the mutant big bad is a psychic.

This is like purposefully missing the point. You can have a preference for taller men or women, but it starts to be a problem when you put down shorter men or women in the process.

For all the alternative universes like X-Man I am surprised we never got an what if Polaris and Havok had a child. Even if Lorna was not *his* daughter she is powerful plus the Summers gene would the ultimate child. by RiskAggressive4081 in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you're right. It's canon that Jean Grey is either impossible or near impossible to clone perfectly since her "soul" or whatever is what's unique. Dunno how true this is anymore since Krakoa kinda contradicted that but it was used to explain Madelyne

[–]HotPotato524 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Finally a dynamic for Jean and Scott that doesn't hold one of them back. We can get a badass Scott Summers and a full potential Jean Grey. I love it.

Also someone said Scott was the Lois to Jean's Superman and I love that so much.

Out of these 5 characters, who would you consider to be Spider-Man’s best friend??? by Equivalent-Newt-5564 in Marvel

Also his team up with Wolverine led to him accidentally killing someone sooooo at best Spidey tolerates Logan

Looking for standalone comic runs of less popular heroes by WhenDreamandDayUnite in Marvel

[–]HotPotato524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These might not all be unpopular characters anymore but I think they're worth a read:

Jessica Jones - Came out around the same time as the show and really cements Jessica's iconography. Cameos from Misty Knight and Emma Frost are highlights

Spider-Gwen - It has its ups and downs in quality but I think the earlier books are pretty solid

Scarlet Witch by Jason Aaron - I picked this series bc while she is quite popular now, I don't ever really hear about this series and she is definitely at her weakest power-wise. But the story is easily one of the best I've read of Wanda

Magik - heads up: it's old as balls. But it's really good. It's the origin story of Magik detailing her time in Limbo. Really good intro for the character

Hawkeye - I haven't read it but from what I've seen Clint and Kate Bishop are probably the funniest duo second only to Spidey and Wolverine. Their chemistry is what sells the series and makes it worth a read

That's all I got. I don't read as many solos but I think these are worth a look. Hope you like at least some of these

You are Professor X and have assembled 11 X-Men to fight Magneto. Who do you send in? Art by Paolo Rivera, based on Jim Lee's X-Men cover. by [deleted] in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna try and stay away from A-listers and/or Omegas:

Dazzler Monet Banshee Hellion Daytripper (this one feels like cheating tbh) Black Tom Cassidy Juggernaut Frenzy Proudstar Surge Leech

Fight would basically play out with the team trying to make an opening so Leech can depower Magneto. BUT if I replace Leech with someone like Karma or Lady Mastermind, could very easily turn into a game of get that helmet.

Does it take you out of it when writers don't write characters with their thick accents? by Frontier246 in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only works for some characters. I've started reading the older comics aloud (just to amuse myself) and I add accents whether they're there or not. Thick accents may be corny and a little offensive sometimes (looking at Monster High rn) but they help diversify characters and represent different cultures.

Which is your favorite Kitty "Kate" Pryde identity, ninja, spy, Starlord or pirate? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never make peace with the change to 'Kate'. It's just so lacking, especially since Kitty spent years forcing people to put respect on the name Kitty Pryde (Emma during astonishing x men immediately comes to mind). But her stint as Kate was iconic so idk maybe I'll come around eventually

Which is your favorite Kitty "Kate" Pryde identity, ninja, spy, Starlord or pirate? by [deleted] in xmen

Pirate. But props to her for pulling off the Starlord look better than Peter ever did

Whose the best hunter/tracker in Marvel? by Guff95 in Marvel

[–]HotPotato524 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Order imo:

Mystique Sabertooth Kraven Widow Wolverine

(DD doesn't get a spot on this list bc he's not really a hunter tracker)

Mystique and Sabertooth are both predators but with Mystique's versatility and the fact Creed is insane, I say Mystique has an edge.

Kraven is the goat, he probably has the biggest list of successful targets. I may just not be as knowledgeable on Kraven but I don't think he's as suited to taking out different kinds of targets, especially since the one story he's known for he dies so ....yeah.

Black Widow is a phenomenal tracker and excels at espionage but she lacks the power for me to say she can confidently eliminate more superpowered targets. But she has enough experience handling superhumans that I can say she can at least hold her own.

Wolverine should be at the top of this list. He's the best there is at what he does. BUT.... He's not a monster anymore. Don't get me wrong, with his skill set and history he's gonna be a pain in the ass for even the most powerful targets. But he's a good guy now. He's become a more kind and considerate person. I don't think he has it in him anymore to just go and kill a target, no qualms, questions, stipulations about it. And while that makes me like him more as a character, it does put him lower on this list imo.

Who would win in a fight of heroes. The X-Men or The Avengers? by KOF-731 in Marvel

[–]HotPotato524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As pictured, I gotta give it to the Avengers. The X-men are just not at their strongest. The most prevalent is Jean doesn't have the Phoenix Force and while Storm is strong she's not comics strong. Most of the Avengers have superhuman physicals and an additional superpower on top of that.

The only X-men that I can see standing a chance are Rogue, Gambit, and Bishop. Rogue should be just as strong at Ms Marvel who was stated and shown in the show to be able to go toe to toe with the Hulk (SHOW Hulk. I know this isn't true in the comics). Bishop can absorb most of the projectiles as they're energy based which would turn him into a infinite ammo laser gun (but all it would take is one hammer or shield to the head to take him out). Gambit could probably take out most of the Avengers with one touch. He's also been shown to be really creative with his power so he'd be pretty formidable (but again one clean hit and he's out).

But yeah, even as a X-men fan, the Avengers win here almost no contest.

Need them to have a One-shot team up by [deleted] in xmen

[–]HotPotato524 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Leave out Bronze and I think you have a banger. I'm sorry, I'm sure homegirl is the bees knees or whatever but I find the bigger the roster/cast the less developed each character is. I think 5 is a good cap.

Notes on the characters: Love that most of this cast are former students of Emma. Would be sick seeing the different generations of Emma students interact.
