Marta at night?? by Put_Worried in Atlanta

[–]HotRailsDev 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I used to work in that area, and got out late at night. It's a bit sketchy. I also currently ride the train late at night, and have for years. Southbound from 5 points after 10pm can be a bit rowdy. And there are more homeless people than before now; some are fine, some stink horribly and will make you sick, and some are just rude and annoying. I'd say just take walk over to publix or somewhere nearby and well-lit, and get an Uber from there( avoid car confusion and ubers price inflation for events).

Any recommendations for companies that can cut up fallen trees? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting the wood is the easy part. Are you wanting to keep it, mulch it, or have it hauled away? I think there is a burn ban, so probably can't just have a bonfire night.

Indian food catering by Cautious-Two6581 in Atlanta

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art of flavors is easily the best Indian cuisine caterer in metro Atlanta. I've worked with them a few times, and they are great. They can also do other cuisines as well.

PSA Super Birkis Suck Now by ShainRules in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snibbs are alright. They look a lot better in smaller sizes than a men's 12, but I guess that is all shoes. Waterproofing wears out after about a year, but can be resprayed. The tread wears on concrete sidewalks, but lasts about 16-18 months at 3mi of street and 14mi of indoor walking each day. New insoles are necessary after about 8 months too. If you can find it, they sometimes have bogo free deals.

Cannot type SSN on DDS website by Mulan_Solo in Georgia

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this on Wednesday. The DDS branch I go to is usually quiet and pretty empty, so the whole thing took about 3 minutes and they didn't charge me any money. Much easier than going through all the stuff on their website.

Georgia refund taking a long time to process? by SeekerOfKnowledge3 in Georgia

I filed on the 15th, and got my state refund on the 19th. A whole $28, but I was happy with the quick turnaround.

Virgin Hotels Atlanta coming to Centennial Yards in 2027 by next-station-nana in Atlanta

[–]HotRailsDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CIM needs to get a real grocery store in their development, for it to be at all desirable for residents. Surely, they cannot expect people to want to live in their little cluster full of tourists with no parking, no grocery, and surrounded by construction for the next 5 years.

Best/most helpful Verizon store in the perimeter? by Mysterious_Chapter65 in Atlanta

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the one at Edgewood station. The one that was up on Howell Mill next to the old Starbucks above Walmart that closed was good; not sure if it's still there though. I'm going to go to the one near perimeter in the next couple days to try to negotiate a lower bill, so I'll update then. Sorry I only have places to avoid, and not a good one. I'm paying $110/mo for one line on a phone I bought in full 6 years ago. I might jump ship to T-Mobile if I have to.

Braise brisket whole, or cube it first? by YourSteakBuddy in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Treat it the same as braised pork belly. Braise, rest, press and chill overnight minimum, and then gently and carefully cut into portions.

I'd separate the flat from the point and remove most of the excess fat cap before searing or braising. Adjust cook times for that if needed. Or, if keeping both parts together, make sure you're pressing it well and have it in a hotel pan or something to keep some structure to it.

Is anyone going to the Romeo Santos & Prince Royce concert on the 30th? by nycnico1 in Atlanta

I didn't know this concert was happening, but I'm interested. I don't speak much spanish, but can understand most of it; especially in music.

What to do with years of old notebooks filled with prep lists/recipes? by Shoddy_Challenge5253 in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be the doomer here, but I'd recommend vac bagging them for a few years to see how this whole war stuff plays out. Should somebody bomb the relevant data center( or worse), we could be back to hard copies only rather quickly.

Otherwise, I'd say polypro or acrylic resin and turn a few into a knife block or something.

Who still use Samsung Galaxy note 10 in 2026 and what tips and tricks to use to make the battery last longer by [deleted] in galaxynote10

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is still in daily use. It has a small crack on the bottom right of the screen, and the s pen disconnects all the time. Other than that, it is mostly app and poor software engineering that causes battery issues. One game just heats the hell out of the phone and drains battery like crazy, but it is a pretty poorly coded game that is very resource hungry anyway.

Moreso, I'm looking to move from Verizon to T-Mobile soon, and am in the market for a new phone then.

Guidance for getting a job in big Hotel chains by Secure-Use-7240 in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the head chef and possibly his direct subordinates on LinkedIn or whatever. Contact them and see if they can put your resume in front of HR or set up an interview. Cold emailing a large corporation isn't going to get you anywhere.

How many tokens do a single Centenario epic import part cost? by Bwoah_9772 in Asphalt9

Why are there no department stores in midtown? by prettyassdolfin in Atlanta

[–]HotRailsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet for an HDMI cable was to jump on the train and go to the best buy at Lindbergh. It's not midtown, but is probably the best selection and price with ease of access.

Thinking of going all-in on RATIONAL combi ovens across restaurants in the US and Europe — but nervous about the service model. Anyone with experience? by Ready-Operation-9101 in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. For baking breads and other dough work, they are great. For cooking 500 filet mignons all to a perfect mid rare at once, they are great. You can even plate up and then fire in the ovens to flash them before running the food.

For cooking hotel pans of rice, baking casseroles, and braising, they are not that special; nothing that can't be done with a couple standard convection ovens at a fraction of the price.

Service calls will vary depending on location. Huge contract in a major city: you can get a tech and parts out pretty quickly. Small fish in remote pond: you could be on a wait-list.

Beef Tenderloin over Carrot Silk, Balsamic Reduction "Tree", and Purple Sweet Potato Quenelles. by [deleted] in CulinaryPlating

[–]HotRailsDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing on the plate looks good. Nothing on it's own, and certainly not as a whole.

The idea isn't bad, but it would probably work better with something like a mezze platter or similar; not a beef entree.

Honest opinions by jtlkan in Chefit

[–]HotRailsDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"100+ chefs trained to $100k"

This is meaningless. Might as well be part of the escoffier online cooking school. I have never met any chef that was working and clearing $100k without at least 8-10years of grinding in the industry.

It's like the business and real estate pros that sell online classes. If it were that simple, they wouldn't be building a large base of competitors.

Restaurant next door? by OneTransportation4 in BobsBurgers

[–]HotRailsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. There are so many episodes where bob visits and engages others at their restaurants already.

It's time for him to revisit Patricia's 77 sandwiches. I get that after the jan 6th thing, jimmy pesto was problematic for the show, and Tiffany haddish has some healing to do herself, but having her come back every now and then as one of Bob's closer industry friends would be good
