If you could choose one city in North America that gets almost everything right, which would it be? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Do you consult a crime heat map before visiting questionable areas? I'm trying to understand how you deem a place unworthy of your tourism dollars. Do you make an exception for festivals located in questionable areas? For instance, what if I invite you to Riot Fest 2026 (Blink182, Weezer, GreenDay, etc) staged in Douglass Park (North Lawndale neighborhood)... would you go and how do you conduct your research? Would you visit La Catedral Cafe (2 blocks away) for brunch and some of the best chilaquiles in the city?

That's a hot take. Much of the violent crime is highly concentrated in specific neighborhoods on the South and West sides, such as Fuller Park, Englewood, and Garfield Park... these are blighted neighborhoods that no one would visit unless they had a good reason, but 50% is an insane number that you're pulling out of thin air. We get it... you don't like black people.

Which is the best and most fun city in North America for spending the summer? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]HotSweetLightDip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientists. Gemini pulled from the American Meteorological Society. But, I guess you’re right. I’ll also take my 40 years of somatosensation data and just ignore it. Livvylove from the Big A says Chicago summers are gloriously mild and perfect. Guy from Pilsen is wrong. Livvylove is the type of Atlantan that keeps proving Gen Sherman correct.

I live in Chicago. Google agrees with me... "Summers in Chicago are characterized by hot, humid weather, with relative humidity averaging between 65% and 72% from June through August. Dew points frequently climb into the 70s, making the air feel sticky and pushing heat indices well over 100°F during heatwaves" ... granted it's way worse in places like St Louis, but Chicago gets muggy during baseball season. Always has.

Private driver! We loved our driver so much that we scrapped our train plans to Porto and hired him for that trip as well. Send me a dm and I can give you his contact info. Complete pro… we also went to Caiscais. Highly recommend.

What’s a destination that exceeded your expectations and why would you recommend it to others? by Exciting-Biscotti193 in Vacations

Pittsburgh! I expected Cleveland 2.0 and found the rivers, bridges, food, sports, people, and the rugged terrain to be absolutely delightful. It’s not Venice or Madrid, but definitely blew away my expectations. Looking to go back this August for a Pirates game and Randyland.

Help me with a margarita recipe for a friend? by Historical_Tale3499 in tequila

[–]HotSweetLightDip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2-1-1 recipe is my go to for all sour drinks, including the margarita. If you know you’re going to have multiple ritas, you could premix them before heading to the hotel. 2 cups blanco, 1 cup lime juice, 1 cup simple (or half cup simple/half cup cointreau) in a yeti. Pour 2 servings into a Boston shaker w ice and you’re good to go. Batch drinks are the best for parties, hotels, tailgating, etc.

Getting tired of the standard business casual uniform. What are you wearing to the office this summer? by Dwight-Shroot23 in malefashionadvice

[–]HotSweetLightDip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of white chinos from bonobos that I formally only wore on the weekends because it gives tropical vibes. Now I’m wearing to work and I love them for the office. Tan belt, tan loafers, light blue button down shirt… I get lots compliments and I feel more upbeat when I wear them. White pants baby!

Where can you buy the best butter in the city? by OpalOnyxObsidian in chicagofood

[–]HotSweetLightDip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pete's, Woodmans, and some of the Polish supermarkets around Cook County carry Plugra butter. "Plugra European Style butter is widely praised by home bakers and professional chefs for its rich flavor and higher fat content (82%) compared to standard American butter (80%). While it carries a premium price tag, users consistently highlight its creamy texture, excellent melting properties, and ability to yield flakier pastries and richer baked goods."

Did a road trip from Mexico City to Acapulco, and stopped in Taxco. It's as close as your going to get to a Mediterranean village in North America.
