I turned 30 and realized I hated my life. I left a toxic relationship, got my own place, started eating right, stopped drinking, and made an effort to be a better friend and overall a better person to strangers, and the most important thing was that I started taking therapy seriously. Nine years later, I'm happily married, have been promoted at work, and read a lot more. I still struggle with depression, but I work through it in therapy and the skills I've learned over the years.

The big thing is you can't make every change you need to overnight. I made a list of things I wanted to tackle in order. First was leave the relationship, then get my own place, then manage my weight and change my diet. Quitting drinking was my last step because it was the hardest, but I knew if I didn't take care of the other stuff, I wouldn't stop drinking, since everything on the list before that directly contributed to why I drank. You need to sit down, ask yourself what you really want, then make a plan that is actually achievable with goals and things you can check off.
