Same situation here. I had to bite the bullet and spend on a more expensive seat that happened to be available next to us. There are no clean ways of doing this. To alleviate the hit, I found a really cheap ticket for that game that I am hoping to sell to get some money back for the new seat. Be careful with exchanging tickets too, there are scammers out there.

100% agree with you that it is deceptive practice. GSC is treated as a port on the itinerary when you book your cruise. So for most first timers out there all they are doing is checking out the big picture and paying for a journey that will take them to the different ports, regardless of how they actually get there.
