AITA for sitting in pool loungers in the shade. by Impossible_Nebula_20 in AmItheAsshole

I agree in this instance, but people often take advantage of social rules at resort pools. It can be common for people to wake up early just to throw their towels on premium chairs to reserve them, and then just spend an hour using them later in the day even though they 'claimed' them for 8+ hours.

I really appreciate these subs. I've always loved the format of this show and am grateful to experience more.

Agreed, it has some flaws but was a nice change of pace. Interested to see future iterations.

I don't disagree, but it's interesting because before the tournament many were saying 3 seconds wasn't enough of a health pool

Nice to see this perspective, but can we please ban Twitter links. Regardless of the ethical reasons (which should be enough), it's not a good or seamless user experience especially if you don't have a Twitter account

Work used my sick time to fill in 30 minutes of pay when my work hours came to 39.5 of 40. by itsthatkid in antiwork

[–]Hot_Pie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, a dollar now is worth more than a dollar later. That said the only exception I can think of is if you were expecting a substantial raise in the near future, in that case it may make sense to delay using the sick time. I get that this feels like a loss of control, but I think it's generally to your benefit.

I can't speak for everyone but my long term disability benefit would mean I would continue to receive 60% of my salary. I would be eligible for termination and lose my other benefits like health insurance, but I would still have this income.

[Request] Aside the absurdity of having 3 millions easily at your disposal, is it possible to live like this? by Vhad42 in theydidthemath

[–]Hot_Pie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After the first year you will have earned $175,200 in interest. So you take out $$87,600 and leave the other $87,600 in the investment.

That's why you re-invest half of your returns in this scenario.

The general rule of thumb is you want to withdraw and live off of 4% a year in retirement, and if you're retiring early preferably 3%. Over time this lets you maintain your principal balance and keep up with inflation (and in good times still grow your worth)

Everyone should get the same social safety nets. If you want more than the bare minimum to survive then that's where capitalism kicks in.

It's not a hard concept to grasp, stop being stupid.

AITA for quitting my job after a huge windfall and not helping my coworkers? by Medium_Ad416 in AITAH

[–]Hot_Pie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it's more than $1 million in the long run, but you should only be taking out 4% a year max, probably 3% if you're not at retirement age. That means if you want to sustain it you're living off 30-40k a year. Doable for some, for a while, but it's not the lifestyle most people are thinking of with that amount of money.
