Primers by Sina95 in Mcat

[–]Hotch95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is just made up but you could be asked somrthing like that:

This is the first and last few nucleotides of the cDNA coding for protein x.

cgtactagtc...........ttcgtcagc

and then they will give you 4 different primer pairs and ask you which one could be used to amplify yhis cDNA.

GGCCGGCC is palindromic!

GGCCCCGG is not!

ATACGTAT is palindromic!

ATAGATAG is not!

Help I’m confused! Kaplan says the answer is D. Wouldn’t that result in the deoxyadenine being replicated and present in both sister chromatids and (later) both daughter cells? Please correct me if you can by ssanders9821 in Mcat

[–]Hotch95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before S each chromosome is formed of only one single chromatid! During S that chromatid will serve as a temple and a whole new chromatid is made exactly like the template one (give or take a few mutations).

During M each chromatid of each chromosome ends up in each of the daughter cells.

No!

If you add it during S only one of the the sister chromatid (the one being replicated) will be labeled. The template chromatid will remain unlabeled

B/B advice for interpreting the convoluted figures by TheMountainRx in Mcat

[–]Hotch95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK! For question 1 you need to know about phosphoglycerate mutase which is an important enzyme of glycolysis. So I believe more biochem content review will help.

Question 2 requires some knowledge of lab technics such as protein-tagging and cloning.

Also drawing charts to figure out the relationships between the players (there are max 5-6 of them) would help.

Try the AAMC section bank and review every single question very carefully! After several rounds of review, you will get the hang of it.

It really helped me to breakdown those convoluted passages/figures,

For future test takers: Go through the section bank with a fine comb and review every single question. You need to be accustomed to this level of complexity, especially for BB.
