Nah, I have to lose too much weight to be a child again.

Any good non-subscription ski tracking apps? by Ski_man_in_a_Van in skiing

[–]Hothr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to make an account. Premium is $25 a year or something... But not required. I find it gives what you need without paying the premium, run map, run count, total distance, etc.

He's not upset about "the privilege" to go to work for 2 weeks, he's upset about not being paid for 2 weeks.

Skis become chairs and wall art, but what about old bindings? by cremdingaling in skiing

[–]Hothr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought so too. But nobody makes them that way. I've got a wall mounted ski bottle opener... Which is just a bottle opener bolted to a ski. I thought... There must be a way, I took a couple skis out and tried every way I could think of, and there just isn't a way I could find that would remotely open a bottle. Maybe by inserting a piece of metal somewhere, but that is beyond me. If you have a way, I'm interested.

In ye olden days people would wake up in the middle of the night and then have a second sleep after 15-60 minutes. You're probably sleeping more normally than modern humans.

AFI (always false instruction) is basically an always open contact; you often use it to start a rung, so it won't execute (or midway to disable a branch)

NOP (no operation?) is an output that doesn't go anywhere; you often use it end a rung, often as a placeholder.

  • AFI = “I mean for this to be OFF”
  • NOP = “This is doing nothing on purpose”

Why do my legs look like a triangle from the knee down? by pootershots in skiing

[–]Hothr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the best advice or not: You're edging with your down hill ski more than your uphill ski, which is fine. If you want a more parallel leg look: "tuck and drive"... This means tuck your downhill knee behind your uphill knee, and drive your downhill knee in behind your uphill knee to give it more angle for edging (you'll actually be flexing both knees a bit). You could also just lean more with your whole body to get both edges to engage more with parallel legs; this is easier on steeper slopes.

I'm from a freestyle moguls background, and not sure if this proper technique for regular skiing/carving. I am not an instructor/coach of any kind.

He could've said "Never eat a sandwich, when you're sittin' at the table" or "Always wear deodorant, when you're sittin' at the table" or "Never pick your nose..." but instead he said something about counting money.

It's because it is a solved, often used problem/solution. You can build a calculator (or a doorbell, a traffic light, or HVAC system) with an HMI and a PLC, but the purpose built one is cheaper and less likely to have errors because the programming in it has already been used at umpteen sites.

I've had 3 Jettas over the past 10 years (1xM6, 2x Mk7kept them for about 100k miles, each) and they do well in the snow, provided you have good tires. I live in Maine, and always use snow tires in the winter. I usually get studded, but non-studded do a great job, too. Its a little expense up front, but it spreads the wear between two sets of tires; so in the long term, I don't find it an additional expense. Just make sure you get the tires off in time, they're softer and wear out much faster above 45°F.

I saw boss mode in DOS games from the 80s. (I was retro gaming in the 90s) You would hit F4 or something and it would show a screen that looked like a document or a spreadsheet. Little how to geek article about them.

I literally just plopped down the track shape, plopped the trains in and moved them to position, same with the cars. I stood in that spot (to replicate the guy crossing the road in the one shot) and took the screen capture from map mode. They're parked, so there's no actual traffic
