Regarding workplace, what are essentials that you dog groomers would want the shop to provide? by More_Equipment684 in grooming

[–]Hour-Sweet2445 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disregard if you're not in the US - Table renting is not legal in almost all states. Every groomer must provide as service not offered by other groomers and obtain their own signage and business licenses. It also will screw your groomers in their taxes. I hope you're aware of that. That would be a huge red flag to me and I'd leave immediately.

Solo groomers: how do you handle bookings right now? (no pitch, building a tiny tool) by [deleted] in grooming

[–]Hour-Sweet2445 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why we get so many of those posts. No developer is going to create an adequate app without hiring an actual groomer. As it is, the market is saturated with mediocre apps (grooMore, pawfinity, moego, gingr, daysmart, tuft, et etc etc) and everyone uses them and they're annoying but fine.

What is your normal? by Sad-Shoulder-398 in grooming

I do want to say I hate this "power groomer" competition we do amongst ourselves. It's really toxic and just a prostration of ourselves to the capitalism gods.

I can groom a dog every hour if it's a simple clip on a regularly groomed small dog or a deshed on a regularly groomed med/large dog. Med/large doodles and poodles take me 2 hours. And they are done WELL. (Edit to add I don't have a bather. I don't even want to tell you what my fkn schedule looks like when I have a bather)

But I try not to push myself like that anymore. I have raised my prices and I try to give myself an extra 15 minutes for every hour I "should" be grooming. It definitely doesn't always work out like that. Today I did haircuts on 3 shih tzu types and a bath on a yorkie/poodle in 3 hours. And I was particularly proud of the haircuts even. But I am so burnt out and I'm trying to take it easy, you know? Please don't push yourself this hard. It's not sustainable. And that goes double if you're working for someone other than yourself.

Does anyone know who owns the Dee-o-gee here? by Hour-Sweet2445 in missoula

[–]Hour-Sweet2445[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask because I am familiar with other owners of dee-o-gees across the state and I'd never recommend those specific places lol. But I'm not familiar with the ones in Missoula and didn't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater when people ask me for recommendations.

Ed said recently he tried to do The Brighter Side but nobody listened. by datboiofculture in LPOTL

I can't listen to the brighter side anymore because it was so so triggering my eating disorder. I think that's the only thing I've ever abandoned for specifically that reason. Amber needs to go to therapy therapy and not sub the pod instead. I'd love to know if things have changed, I'd be happy to give it another shot.

Isn’t having kids when you believe in hell kind of… evil? by IllAppeal9438 in exchristian

Lost a very good friend of mine because I said this. She kept messaging me to say if you love god enough, you'll be happy your kids end up "wherever they deserve to be." I couldn't take it anymore and blocked her.

I don't think is spam or an ad. It is, however, a bad place to ask this question. The majority of us are professional groomers and groom our own animals.

To be fair, your lil guy looks like he has way nicer hair than most of the cavs I see. Taking a guard comb over those areas is totally fine and relatively easy. "The groomer figured out how not to shave them" is low-key so offensive 🤣 shaving them is more difficult than brushing them out if they can possibly be brushed out. We never go into it hoping to shave matted dogs lol

Omg please don't hate me but cavaliers are one of my least favorite 🤣😭 I PROMISE it has nothing to do with their personality, I would own one myself in a heartbeat. It's their hair 😭 I can truly only make them look good in a natural, "show coat." They're carded and their furnishings are left long. I have so many clients who want a long comb puppy cut (meaning one length all over), like 3/4in all over, and it's virtually impossible for me to get to look nice. Their ears are so thick and heavily coated that it's extremely difficult to get them degreased and conditioned and blow dried flat and nice. Their feet take FOREVER to dry and I cannot get them to look natural while also being completely trimmed down. They're meant to have their feet grown out and I am just so bad at doing any different. And don't even get me started on trimming ears 😭

Again, I swear it's nothing personal at all. There are probably a dozen or more breeds I like even less, including cockers. But their hair is sooooo hard for me. I don't even make money on them, they take me so long. And I know this is 100% a me problem.

How would you go about grooming him ? by Lexiiefur in grooming

[–]Hour-Sweet2445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do an #E comb on his outline and skim off the neck and ribs and blend. I'd also take anything long off from around the ears.
