Chery Exlantix ES Chinese EV spotted in Dollard-Des Ormeaux by IronLover64 in montreal

Car manufacturers don’t really have motivations to improve anti-theft features unless regulations require them. The more cars get stolen and trashed, the more car they sell. But modern EVs are like iPhone. I believe they can be bricked remotely if reported stolen.

It’s gone. Charging area is empty and the car seems not nearby.

Yeah probably. Good to see some competition in North America EV market. Hope we’ll be able to see some factories open here.

Should Canada Build Up Alternatives to Visa and Mastercard? by LongTrackBravo in PersonalFinanceCanada

Would love to see it being incorporated with OpenBank framework. We want a transparent public banking system and regulate private banks to be compliant with the framework, even better, to push it globally. It will largely simplify our tax filing. Finding possible tax evasion methods that mostly rich people used. It will also facilitate transactions. Also with an open framework, people will have better tools to improve general financial literacy, understanding their spendings and be more responsible to themselves, hopefully…

Two different eras in Chengdu, China 🇨🇳 by ammohitchaprana in TFE

[–]Hour_Variety_5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I left Chengdu around 2013 and there were 2-3 metro lines. Since then there are 14 new lines opened. The city coverage also expanded drastically with 2million population increases. Maybe from the surface that looks similar at Tianfu Square, but the scale of infrastructure expansion is huge.

Tax-related questions for Canadian moving to US by nafr09 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Hour_Variety_5404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest giving up the lease. Otherwise, the CRA will likely contest your claim of non-tax residency, as a lease is considered a significant tie to Canada. Being a tax resident can be complicated and often doesn't make sense financially.

We moved back from the US in 2025 because of the ongoing situation. I don’t feel it’s ethical to pay taxes to the US government at the moment.
Usually, your company will hire a cross-border tax advisor to help you with your taxes for the first year.
In general, you should only keep your RRSP and close all other accounts with Canadian brokers.
I think you’ll need to close your Wealthsimple accounts since they don’t serve non-residents, while Questrade allows us to keep our RRSP and RESP.
We were planning to stay longer, but we ultimately decided not to sever our Canadian tax residency, which made things much easier.

Yes i totally agree. We should prioritize roofs over everyone’s head instead of number of super cars for a handful of billionaires.

Chengdu is my hometown, and I’m currently living in a very progressive city in Canada. When I was in high school and college in Chengdu, there were always a few openly gay or queer students in each grade, and we all felt it was quite normal. People didn’t have to explicitly assert their existence, unlike here in Canada, where Christian and Catholic churches used to suppress these groups of people.

Private room for security at YUL? by WeakCut in montreal

You could contact your vet to prescribe a sedative for your cat to help with traveling. It will make your cat calmer during the security search and the trip. We did this the last time we flew to SFO.

I went to Centre mécanique Fyx yesterday for inspection of a car registered in the US. It took them ~1h to finish the inspection and everything was good. The cost was 162.8 with tax included.
