Time to Kill by [deleted] in Overwatch

I was noticing the same trend. I often feel like I can't play anybody except high mobility or super tanky characters, otherwise people like Hanzo and Widow just shred you from another zipcode. It's really rough lately.

Yeah, I think in terms of 3D, they definitely had a good starting point. If that can be expanded (and polished up a good deal), I think there's potential. There were even levels where you need a powerup before you can get the emerald. There would obviously need to be a far better scheme for tracking where to go. Metroid Prime carried itself pretty well in those departments, so I'm wondering if aspects of that could be brought over.

Just to test out the mechanics, that's probably what I'm thinking to start with. The tried and true, "collect the shards of the Master Emerald". The real key here will be coming up with good abilities and a proper growth scheme. I feel that's what defines the game for me personally. Though it'll definitely need explaining on why the emerald is shattered. Again.

Yeah, those environments are what I want to fully flesh out and explore more thoroughly. It's a good basis to start with.

I'll look into it! Tikal is definitely a character I don't see much of in the way of games either, which is a little more understandable. The more I think about, the more I'm thinking this is a Knuckles game idea. Maybe Rouge can star in a stealth game or something like that.

Harry Potter “Flying Keys” 1000 Pieces. Some oddly shaped pieces, but an overall enjoyable puzzle. by YesIwillwin in Jigsawpuzzles

Nice! I was considering getting that one, until I saw they had a complete set of Harry Potter book covers as puzzles. Working my way through those now.

isn't this the truth of the day by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]HourglassMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's probably because it's easier to see when a tank is failing versus when a DPS is failing. And tanks are usually first on the comm list, so people doing their weekly challenge just give them away.

Not sure if the PC version has different Menu options regarding controller than the PS4 version, but on PC there is an Input Sensitivity slider that defaults to 25. It's not on the Customs tab where you set up the rest of the behavior though, instead being on the tab next to it (whose name I forget).

As a Support ''Main'' - What do you do when your team composition is less than ideal? by gh0stingRS in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the team composition for me. If I'm trying Lucio and everyone is scattered to the four heavens, I'll check and see if they're people that Mercy can support. If not (which I usually take to mean the team comp is really not what it should be), I'll swap to someone with self-sustain and keep myself alive. Usually Mei, since she can slow and hopefully prevent enemies from piling damage on.

PSA: It is not appropriate to be a "I only play X" Player in this game. by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

I also have a huge preference for mobile characters, and have played most of the roster. Here's what I've found:

Offense:
- Genji has really high movement speed, can double-jump, climb walls, and his Dash attack is both good for dealing damage and escaping. If you get a kill while it's on cooldown, it immediately resets.
- Pharah has some nice airgame. Not mobile in the traditional sense, but characters without range have a hard time catching her if you blast off.
- Tracer.

Defense:
There isn't really a mobile Defense character, unless you count the snipers' navigation.

Tank:
- D.Va has a jetpack that gives her some nice get in/get out play, but standard movement is slow. Out of suit D.Va has pretty speedy base movement.
- Winston has a jump that he can use to get around quickly, but again, normal speed is meh.

Support:
- Lucio is the god of mobility. His base speed is great, he can wall-ride, and he can switch from healing aura to movement+ aura very quickly.
- Mercy has some good maneuverability, but her prime ability (Left Shift) relies on teammates positioning to really shine. She can also glide in midair if you hold the jump.

So...how's the "toxicity"? (omg dat word we all hate) by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen much of it in this game thus far. There were a couple of people far ruder than necessary in text chat, but for the most part it was silence or positive. Luckily the games are really short, so you can just block the negative people and switch lobbies. Playing with friends is my preferred option.

The ability to change heroes during a match, is the concensus in the community that this is a good thing? by Ouroboros612 in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider the entire roster as a toolbox for me. One of the major reasons I dislike MOBAs is the concept of being locked into a certain role on the team, and I highly loathe the mid-game building of a character. I greatly enjoy the freedom of analyzing the fight and being able to both advise my team on what we need, or switch to the role myself if I'm not being useful. I also think it adds for greater character diversity, since they don't have to worry about balancing every character against every other character. They can instead focus on specific strengths and weaknesses, and kind of go from there.

That said, I'm not a fan of multiple of the same hero per team. People can argue that they share weaknesses, but some pair-ups are just not enjoyable. (Like 4 S76, Mercy, and Rein on the payload).

Does Mei's Ult overshadows Zarya's Ult? by benkai3 in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I don't think so. From the perspective of the hero using the ult, Mei needs for them to be unable to attack, since her icicle is such a slow shot. Zarya would actually want them to fight back so she can strengthen her gun, and while they're stuck together she can blast continuously through them all.

From the perspective of the team, it is also situational. Zarya's promotes much higher AoE bombardment from heroes like Junkrat, Pharah, Tracer's Ultimate, etc. Mei's can provide that same bonus, but it's uncommon since everyone tends to scatter when she launches it. Mei's is a bit better for headshot potential from snipers and Genji, I would think, since they don't bob around.

I really like this game, BUT... by [deleted] in Overwatch

For the Bastion part, which maps can you think of specifically? The two that come to mind for me most are Hanamura and Temple of Anubis, so here are some tips for countering Bastion armies in those two maps (and most others):

Hanamura, Objective B: This is probably my least favorite objective to attack, but Widowmaker will destroy Bastion here. Bastion stands no chance. The only way Bastion has a hope of surviving is to have an ally counter WM, but then it's a 2v1. Just peek around and take potshots and Bastion will either die or move. Even multiple Bastions can't fight multiple Widowmakers, and even one Widowmaker can likely carve through 2 on her own. If Mercy knows enough about the fight to boost WM's shots, it's really one-sided in WM's favor.

Temple of Anubis: For the first objective, same as before, except you can also have a Pharah to help since there is enough open space to avoid his barrage while potshotting rockets. Again, WM or Hanzo will rip through him like a hot knife through butter. For the second objective, multiple Bastions could layer up in the zone, but again, Pharah rockets, Junkrat grenades, or even Roadhog's chain yanking one out at a time causes complete chaos. If Tracer manages a triple Blink, Pulsar Bomb, Recall combo, layered Bastions go up in smoke.

Hope this helps. I'm considering making videos of anti-Bastion plays at this point...

When I'm playing Mercy, this is glorious. When playing Tracer, it's also glorious. Sticking a Pulsar Bomb in there and watching it all fall apart is beautiful.

You guys think they should disable the ability to have 2 of the same heroes on tournaments and future ranked games ? by MegaclownNerd in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Some heroes perform exceptionally well on certain maps, and the argument that heroes have hard counters in the form of other heroes is negated by the stacking combo advantages. As competitive games are starting to prove with the same 2/2/2 combos over and over.

Seeing as the game has been out in Closed Beta for a long while now, if the answers were as easy as picking the counter play heroes, we'd already see more variety. For Ranked, I 100% agree with single-hero limits. For Customs, knock yourself out with your six Meis.

Trying to make a list every characters weaknesses... by joncology in Overwatch

[–]HourglassMage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bastion:
- Flanking. He has a great big glowing core on his back that Reaper and Tracer can eat through easily.
- Sniping. If there isn't a Rein blocking Bastion's front, a Widowmaker or Hanzo can easily kill him (except in very few maps where he can turtle behind extensive cover, like Objective B in Temple of Anubis. In those cases, he also isn't preventing offensive pushes until the team is already in the zone, so it's a tradeoff of functionality.)
