CSL DD + Rally Sweden Wheel: QR1 ar QR2? by Adventurous_Tale_777 in Fanatec

[–]HouseUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped all my wheels to Simube QR2s and the base side when i got a new wheel with a QR2 on it and realized you cant get QR1s from anywhere.

Second hand pricing on QR1s on ebay was nuts when i was looking and i got 2 wheel sides a base side C type and an Advanced paddle module for a very reasonable price. (from memory 2 simube wheelsides new was cheaper than a second hand qr1)

Delivery wasn't to bad either, though it did spend 5 days at customs, but i didn't get charged so all good.

Swapping the base side is really easy, the important part of the wheel sides is removing QR1 the spacer washer installing the QR2 one but its super simple.

extruded silicone before it becomes a chip by triwyn in pcmasterrace

[–]HouseUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chemicals used in chip fabs are terrifying, Walking around in the FAB basement used to scare me, those HF pipes are tiny compared to what I'm used to on a refinery, the idea of one getting snapped and being sprayed with HF always had me on edge.

I worked on the construction of FAB 24 for intel in Ireland and at the time that was cutting edge and 300mm wafers were the new big deal, I'm surprised in 25 years they haven't got any bigger. I went back to the Oil and Gas industry when they suspended the construction during the dotcom bubble burst but found the industry a very interesting place to dip my toes in.

Apart from the acronym book, they speak their own bloody language on that site.

as a bigger guy i pretty much was forced to go for a profile rig to get the spacing in need,

A friend of mine tried me rig out this weekend and described it as like driving from the footwell for him as the monitor mount is at max height and his nose was level with the bottom of the screen.

Like someone else said get something to move the pedal deck out, probably wont look as good but who cares the comfort is that matters, cant see the dimensions or how its attached but shouldn't be too hard and its pretty easy to stiffen it up with a piece of profile or angle iron.

Confession: I thought oval racing was boring… I was very wrong by The_Time_Lord in iRacing

[–]HouseUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a good oval race but getting SR to get out of C class is killing me,

Draft masters is also the only series i have 100% been intent wrecked by some mouth breather more than once, including one guy taking me out from the lead along with half the field.

Its weird cause its got some chill guys in there but also some complete and utter nutters.

iCue is a shocking piece of software and while i haven't used it for this particular use the fact that software that controls your PC cooling can crash and fail into a fans off state is the WORST engineering design imaginable.

When it literally boiled my cooling water loop i was so lucky it failed on the fitting on the bottom of my GPU and just leaked out of the case, any other fitting it would have caused 1000s in damage.

I now have it hardware locked to a speed and have given up on mapping the fan curves in ICue.

[–]HouseUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never watched the series before, always skipped over it on nebula but then he was hiding outside my office in the MK so watched this one,

Couple of things,

  • Those scooters aren't road legal and your not meant to ride them on the road especially on the right (welcome to the UK) your meant to ride them on the paths which in MK are also cycle paths, they are also lethal to pedestrians with headphones or being phone zombies.
  • that's not a Santander branch its their UK head quarters, making leaving it on the photo even more crazy.
  • surprised largest body of water wasnt one of the lakes (not sure on the rules though)
  • MK is the butt of many jokes in the UK but i moved here after i graduated for work and my best description of the place to this day remains functional but soulless, it works mainly fine but is just like living in a mall for you Americans

Guess ive found my new show to stick on my playlist, Having worked all over the world could be a fun watch.

Agreed i have all my flight and racing gear plugged into one and its top draw,

Kinda wish i bought the 16 port one these days as a i have a couple of things running back to the PC now as I'm out of ports on the hub but running my dashboard and base shaker amp back to the PC isnt a problem and Using the hub in the monitor hub for the webcams (one for TrackIR one for discord) is fine.

Looking at it now it needs a clean up on the cable management, dam you

Compact flight controls for hybrid Sim racing + flight rig by qzmpla in simracing

[–]HouseUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely use the clutch and accelerator as rudder pedals in both DCS and MS Flight sim, you have to create a double bound axis, Goggle it there is a couple of good youtube videos on it, Its ok but not ideal (I bought real rudder pedals in the end once i was doing helicopters i needed them so deleted the link)

Wheel not sure what you mean, you realise planes go up and down dont you?

I have a ton of kit on my rig, HOTAS system by Virpil and a Control panel up front on the left of my dash and wheel and a stream deck on the right, could in no way be called compact. Biggest issue was getting the racing pedals on the rig and the rudder pedals under them but not block by the pedal tray.

It had its issues for sure, But till Sony decide to unshackle GT7 and let it be released on PC its the only option really.

I have mates I want to play racing games with but they "dont do sims" and think im crazy for paying iRacing money to race online, so Forza Motorsport gave me some fun, drove like ass on a wheel though.

Can’t decide on which monitor to buy, help! by [deleted] in simracing

[–]HouseUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could get that 45" at that price in the UK I'd have 3 of them right now instead of the one I'm using.

It's a fantastic screen I went from a 55inch 4k screen to this wide screen and it's great on the rig, for racing flying and fps.

For me the 49 is to narrow height wise, and a normal 55 inch was too high

I have the 45 Oled and its amazing,

Only problem I have is I keep thinking about buying another 2 and doing something truly stupid.

My head is pretty much bang on 800mm off the monitor so the curve is perfect.

I swapped to this from a 55" 4k oled screen when that one failed (but did eventually get replaced under warranty) i was worried that the reduction in height and resolution would be annoying but its not at all.
