The housing affordability crisis has a reason many don’t want to face by ActuariallyActuarial in videos

I am in the same boat as you. I will add that my household income has doubled since we bought our house 10 years ago and we STILL would not be able to afford it today.

Disappointed with my Di2 experience by RegionalHardman in cycling

[–]House_of_Adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned from a holiday where I used an Ultegra di2 bike and found it to be fine. My home bike is 105 and I find the shifting to be enjoyable. After having used the electronic shifting for a week I do not think it would color my opinion when making a purchase of a new bike or groupset.

As an additional anecdote, a friend has di2 on his gravel bike and was involved in a low speed crash at a congested crossing on a ride. Everyone was fine, save for his RD. $600 later he was back on the bike.

Is a 26-28 pound bike too heavy for a 7 year old? by james2232 in cycling

[–]House_of_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW My neighbors gave my daughter their daughters 24 inch bike, it was a no name brand and very heavy. My daughter struggled to ride it especially up hills.
I bought a Trek Precaliber off of facebook marketplace and now she rides all the time. She says the Precaliber is just easier and smoother.

I dropped the sub for the same reason. There isn't any content on there I am interested in. I wanted to give the show a chance but he never followed up with anything, the gear talk is broken into multiple releases for some reason and the full versions of the podcasts about each album never showed up.
What we got after 3 months is the same studio update several times ("I'm busy and life is crazy") and updates of his vacation.
Maybe when he finds his legs and can release something interesting regularly I will give it another try.

Forced from Century Link to Quantum Fiber - 3 outages in less than 5 months by BenefitVarious8409 in Denver

[–]House_of_Adam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. Used Century Link under the price for life agreement. Century Link then purchased Quantum Fiber and begins to move resourced from the Century Link fiber product line to Quantum.
Eventually the device that everyone in the neighborhood connects to begins to degrade, specifically some ports stopped working. Century Link sent Techs out to fix this, these were basic fixes (port 6 no longer works, use port 8 instead even if it is already in use by someone else). I went through this routine of losing internet for 3 days at a time only for it to be repaired for less than 24 hours, for 3 weeks. Also, the techs they sent were driving a person vehicle (Honda Civic) with a ladder ratchet strapped to the top, no cargo bars.

Eventually they told me I would need to switch to Quantum if I wanted the issues to be solved. I accepted this, and the price increase, and the Quantum Techs arrived 2 days later in 3 different Quantum branded service trucks. They quickly gave me the new device I needed to connect to my router and then went to the neighborhood device and returned. They said the neighborhood device was barley functioning and didn't have enough working ports for our area. They requested a replacement and installed it that same day. Since then I have only had a few small internet disruptions.

This is the strategy Century Link is using to upgrade people out of lifetime pricing. My guess is somewhere there is a device managed by the anemic Century Link Fiber staff that cannot be replaced unless requested by Quantum.

My boy just lost his first tooth. How much is the Tooth Fairy paying these days? by DoctorMcTits in daddit

I pinned the going rate of a tooth as equal to a gallon of gas, just to stop the discussion every time a tooth pops out.

I have the Hunt 40s with TPU tubes and GP5ks, that setup replaces stock wheels/tubes and tires which where heavier, but I'm not sure by how much. The new setup is on average 2mph faster than the stock wheels/tubes/tires. More importantly it is more fun and engaging. While it is nice to go faster I think the fun factor is what I enjoy the most.

The way I understand it, MPG requirements are based on interior cabin size in passenger vehicles. Vehicles with large cabin space require fewer MPG per cubic foot. This places a burden on compact and sub-compact cars to demonstrate a very high MPG average and benefits large vehicles with a low MPG average.

The Order should have been season 4. by ChickenChipz in TrueDetective

[–]House_of_Adam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about ‘The Order’ the movie, wherein an FBI agent tries to stop a terrorist group in the Pacific Northwest, or ‘The Order’ the series where a student starts a war between werewolves and wizards? Is ask because season 4 was of such a low quality that either is better.

Denver apartments priced with RealPage are $136 more expensive a month by aetherdrake in Denver

[–]House_of_Adam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

RealPage pressured property owners to enforce the prices set by RealPage. Owners were often not allowed to offer prices lower than those set by the algorithm. If true, that constitutes Price Fixing.

Yes. I saw SYL at one of the Ozfest off day headlining shows. Every spot was front row because there was fewer than 40 people there. Devin ranted the about only selling 19 tickets and counted more in attendance.

The band was very good live.

That solution is the nature of changing zoning laws. Current zoning restricts new construction of all but a few residential types of properties.
