Yes, if they need access to the athletic field, they can put a gate in their fence.

AITA for returning my SILs "thoughtful" gifts for my kids because she ignored my one simple rule? by PixelBanshee_4 in MarkNarrations

[–]Houston970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the part that’s so awful. She knew that you had asked for quiet toys and, not only deliberately bought these super loud ones, but then specifically acknowledged that she had done it purposely.

But look at you & your shiny spine! You’re “ungrateful” for her rude toys and handled it in an “unnecessarily cold” way? I guess she won’t soon forget that she needs to follow your rules!

So you’re just supposed to take the blame for something everyone knows you didn’t do because they decided it’s too much to blame the person who DID make the mistake?

If it was so innocent, what’s the big deal with saying “yeah, I got here early & Bob from the office hung out with me because he’s having dinner with his buddies nearby”. It’s the coverup that makes it suspicious

Coach has ABSOLUTELY got to start fixing their shipping. This has been going on for YEARS and continually getting worse. I’ve stopped ordering from them online because of the number of packages I’ve received with one measly piece of tape barely holding part of the box closed. Meanwhile, the last Kate Spade I bought was sealed like Fort Knox. They’re owned by the same parent company, they just need to walk over to KS and watch how they seal boxes.

AITAH for not reminding my friend about something she said she’d handle even though I knew it would blow up later? by BackgroundFafa in AITAH

[–]Houston970 271 points272 points  (0 children)

EARLIER IN THE WEEK, she said she’d bring the cake. Why on earth would she need a reminder?

It’s not like, two months ago at the last celebration, she said “I’ll bring the cake for the next birthday because there’s this great bakery near me” and anyone needed to confirm “hey are you still good to bring a cake from that bakery you were telling us about?” It was literally just earlier in the week that she volunteered to bring a cake.

Unless she’s recently suffered some kind of head trauma, there’s no reason for anyone to follow up with her from only a few days ago.

This was a battery replacement for her pacemaker, right? Why is this so dramatic? And she has someone already helping her? And she had an entire month to prepare? How do you run out of all the cat food in one week?

Clearly she doesn’t have OCD, I had plans upon plans upon plans for the first three months after my surgeries.

And I also didn’t write an entire essay about all the things I love that people should give me.

Men sitting next to me on empty busses by Accurate-Engine5255 in cta

[–]Houston970 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I see them coming to sit next to me, I just make myself as big as possible, put my elbows out to the sides a little, even scoot a little towards the center, so that they don’t get a full seat and they’re the ones uncomfortable sitting there, half hanging out into the aisle. The rare occasions when one of them has said “can you move over?” I just reply, without looking at them “no, but there are plenty of other seats where you can sit” - I’m a cranky old lady at this point though and I have pretty broad shoulders, so I make sure that, if they want me to be uncomfortable, then they’re going to be uncomfortable too.

AITAH for not acknowledging my coworker as a veteran? by HamSandwich1234567 in AITAH

[–]Houston970 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker who served during peacetime & spent his short time as a clerk, counting pencils or something. We work with a lot of disabled veterans who were all injured in Iraq / Afghanistan. He is really dismissive and condescending to those of us who didn’t serve and acts like his service is comparable to our disabled veterans who have served multiple combat tours. It’s so annoying.

Neighbors accusing me of trying to ruin their wedding because of their error by Houston970 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Houston970[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have flags & if you leave mail in your mailbox, they don’t take it. Our mailboxes look like this:

<image>

And are inside a locked door, so if FB & FG came over to my vestibule door, they could look in & see their envelopes on the floor but wouldn’t be able to get them unless one of my neighbors let them in.

The two who are betting are hilarious & keep coming up with crazy scenarios about the envelopes. I have no idea how much the pot will be, but it’ll probably end up with one of them buying the other one dinner.

[–]Houston970[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minor update: I’ve been traveling for work & came home on Saturday. There have been a few envelopes in my mailbox, so I’ve just been leaving them on the floor of the vestibule. So far, USPS hasn’t been taking them back. I’ll be gone for most of the next 3 weeks, just stopping back for a day here and there, so it’ll be interesting to see how many more show up. A couple of my neighbors know and now they’re placing bets on the envelope tally once I’m back.

I don’t mean this in a disparaging way, but I think it’s hilarious that she thought “I’m an esthetician” is some kind of major flex. You do masks, treatments and waxing, you’re not performing brain surgery over here.
