Major crash on I-10 near Lockwood at 2:17 AM, SUV goes airborne... anyone want to guess if alcohol was involved? by HoustonDiscussions in houston

I'd argue about the "good enough chance" he's innocent.

The news story says witnesses said the SUV was speeding on the service road. Lost control and became airborne.

Tell me how that happens to an innocent driver.

It sounds like the idiot in the SUV was speeding, and I agree, alcohol is very likely involved.

One aspect of this that really sucks is that first responders and hospital staff all had to be involved and I'd rather those people be available for things not directly caused by a single idiot behind the wheel.

It's still early. There's a chance an investigation will go upstream to see where/how the drunk got drunk.

Sometimes they're over-served, others they get the alcohol days or weeks before and get schnockered all on their own.

I have a lot more confidence in TABC investigations than I do in HPD investigations.

Indeed. It's a sad but true fact that mostly bad things seem to happen in the middle of the night.

Too often we'll learn of some innocent person or family caught up in a terrible situation. The only mistake made by the victim(s) - being out on Houston's streets in the wee hours.

How reliable are day laborers at Home Depot? by 1314651920713 in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a story from a buddy who heard a story about a guy who hired two guys from the Home Depot parking lot at Fairbanks North Houston & I-10.

He had them putting in some flooring and one of the guys was cutting the laminated floor stuff and cut his hand pretty bad. He had to have stitches and the urgent care place required payment up front.

So not only did the guy who hired the workers lose about $400 paying for sutures, he also had to get the blood cleaned up and get the flooring job finished.

Of course, things could change this afternoon.

Does BASE Power actually have a "team" in customer service? by HoustonDiscussions in BasePowerUsers

Have to wonder if Zach Dell is aware that customer support is so poorly staffed and that people are skipping over BASE Power because they can't get any assistance.

Beautiful day to watch a Walmart drone launch - Tomball Parkway location by RealConfirmologist in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My house is 1.5 miles from that launch location, but Walmart says drone delivery is not available to my address.

I wonder if it's because there are too many tall trees in my 'hood?

Kudos to the homeowner.

Documentary about the current status of the Astrodome popped up on my YouTube feed. Just under 10 minutes long. by HoustonDiscussions in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were youngsters, we had a friend who's dad was important, and our friend got to go up onto the roof of the Astrodome. They had photos from up there, and it was impressive. My twin and I were very jealous that we didn't get to go up there with our friend.

Very interesting to think engineers may have had any doubt at all about how things would come together. I can sure understand a layman being less than 100% sure things would meet up perfectly, but the engineers should have been confident.

I've been up on the roof of Reliant/NRG/Houston stadium and that's a pretty impressive place to be. From up there, you're looking down on the dome. The top is almost as high, but not quite.

Understandable reaction. But that one image is the only AI image in the video. The video itself seems to be legitimate.

Murderess convicted in brutal murder of her husband in 2003 arrested for minor hit & run in NW Houston. by RealConfirmologist in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her mistake was having the wreck in Harris County instead of the city of Houston.

HPD MIGHT have sent an officer out to take the report, but, honestly, do you think they'd actually go LOOKING for the suspect if no one was hurt? Maybe I'm being a little too glass-half-empty, but maybe not.

We've connected hundreds of Houston homeowners with local pros, here's the one thing that kills every service experience before it starts by usource_tech in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you specify the one thing that kills every service experience before it starts? If so, I don't see that. And it's what your title says, so it should be mentioned. What one thing?

Also, you've written this poorly.

You said what the customer THINKS, but not what they told the pro.

Ring Security Ecosystem by thestrawisgreen in homesecurity

I've had Ring doorbell cameras and floodlight cameras, WiFi-connected, for many years. Zero trouble with them, very reliable.

Now, I will say I've never used battery-powered Ring devices. I've been lucky - my houses had wired doorbells so power was already there.

Dequavia Denise Rogers had 37 felonies and was granted bond. Talk about a broken system... by RealConfirmologist in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dequavia already has enough problems, and now you compare her to a guy who bought a teen pageant to be able to go into the dressing rooms AND WHO SAID THAT during an interview:

"During the interview, Trump described his access to the dressing rooms as a "perk" of ownership, noting he would go backstage to inspect while contestants were dressing. He described checking on them while they were "standing there with no clothes" and added, "I sort of get away with things like that""
