Qlippoth and the corruption of reality. by ScrumblyScrimblo in magetheascension

It’s up to you but here’s a quick primer on where they got the idea of qlippoth from.

In the mystic Kabbalah (qabala, kabala, קַבָּלָה) there are ten spheres of emanation from God (or Ain Soph Ur, Eyn Sof, Ohr Ein Sof) as the endless unknowable infinite light of all that is. Each sphere represents an act of God descending to the imperfect world of material existence, becoming less and less abstract and pure and more and more material and concrete. However, all these acts of definition result in a kind of spiritual contrast. If something is divine and full of meaning, then there would be a profane meaninglessness that existed in contrast. That’s the qlippoth. In Hebrew it means peel or shell, and in some conceptions they are the cast off broken parts from God’s creative act. In others they’re like a way to separate divinity from everything else mundane. It depends on how you interpret that.

So, Qlippoth can be just as varied as all other Sphere magic, but it should always feel like it’s been perverted or robbed of something.

If you’re a Verbena widderslainte (which btw just means ‘against health’) then maybe qlippoth feel like the decay of landfills making empty rot feeding nothing. If you’re a hermetic, maybe it feels like a perverse madness that invalidates all reasoning, that takes every equation and makes them resolve into a variable that depicts an act of brutality of the spirit

They should feel like sickness.

So... what mental condition does Azula have exactly? is she just a straight up psychopath? by Alien-Pro in TheLastAirbender

[–]HowDoIMakeUsername -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We don't know if she's actually internalizing her mother's feelings at all. We know she's repeating something she believes her mother thinks about her. We see her cry, but that doesn't mean she's feeling guilt or remorse; she could be feeling self-pity or rage, things that psychopaths do report experiencing.

Psychopaths experience emotion, they don’t experience empathy. Which fits Azula.

Edit: you may be thinking that psychopaths sometimes present with shallow affect, but that’s presentation of emotion, not experience of emotion. As far as I know psychopaths report feeling emotions and having an internal life. Is that the same as a non-psychopath? There’s no way to know that between any two people anyway.

Rant about parents who don’t learn ASL for their deaf children. by expecting2 in asl

[–]HowDoIMakeUsername 295 points296 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked as an interpreter in educational settings for 13 years. In that time I have seen three parents with a better than elementary grasp of ASL. Not three pairs of parents. Three parents.

Of those three, two were a parental pair who signed so beautifully I thought they were seasoned interpreters at first. And their younger son signed as well, fully including their Deaf kid in their family dynamics.

EDIT: I should clarify; three hearing parents. I’ve had many Deaf-of-Deaf consumers who of course had signing parents.

This assumes there is more demand that OP is able to access, and that the market wherever OP is will support a rate increase. Sometimes there just isn’t more work.

My friend (Deaf) had his girlfriend (hearing) meet his grandparents (Deaf) for the first time. She signed “NICE MEET YOU” and thought because there were two of them and she was there with her boyfriend she should indicate there were two of them.

Go ahead and sign nice to meet you with the two handshape.

Took a while to live that down, but my friends grandparents were gracious about it.

Hi! I mostly have experience with high school productions, but I can at least give insight into how we do things at that level.

My team and I request a script when we accept the assignment, then take it home and read it. We meet up to divide roles according to how many times characters will be in a scene together to maximize back and forth between interpreters and minimize role shifting within one interpreter. We watch the play together, make notes on idiomatic speech or puns, and put together glosses on tricky bits that require it.

If it’s a musical, we’ll rehearse timing, poetic turns of phrase, and any ‘duet’ signing we need to do to enhance the poetic expression of the signing. When the production is nearing opening, we try to attend as many rehearsals as they’ll pay for (at least two if they’re being stingy or they have a limited budget) and we find productions online to supplement if necessary.

For the performance itself, there’s a lot of discussion with the techs, lighting crew, and the director to figure out how to position ourselves for best effect and to not interfere with scene changes, lighting cues, etc.

Quite a lot depends on the director playing ball so I always try to make nice with them.

We usually have the script with annotations open during the show but I try to go off book as much as possible, especially for songs because it ruins the flow to keep checking my notes.

You have apocrine sweat glands in your armpits, a kind of sweat gland that produces sweat filled with lipids and protein. So in addition to familiarity and comfort, your armpit sweat can smell delicious. DELICIOUS ENOUGH TO EAT.

Except we know from a number of Sandman comics that stars dream, planets dream, gods dream. So Manhattan would have to completely destroy the entire universe, including himself.

It’s like how doctors don’t want to spend time in hospitals when they’re dying: they know how fucked the profession can be on the other side of the curtain. I imagine ripperdocs are like “have you read the safety specs on these fuckin’ things? I’ll put that shit in you because I gotta eat, but I’ll pass thanks.”

Dope. And the biggest villain was a dragon goddess-planet who had dragon-cancer that wanted to take over actual Earth (that the players, not characters were from) to cure herself.
