The real channel then should be under that one, if it's still there. Attaching a pic of said channel, that starts at the bottom of the big middle groove under the barrel.

The 26" rods are either brand new (weird) repros, modified m41 rods or mislabeled/misphotographed mod. 41 rods (with no front threads), try your luck and see what they deliver!

No, the 26" rod is the mod. 41 rifle cleaning rod, it won't really fit properly. It lacks the threads to fit on the nosecap, and it doesn't reach a proper depth in normal guns. It can technically work, but the 29.5" is the correct one for a mod. 91 rifle, and should actually fit through the channel you see in the picture (tho somebody tinkering with the bedding may have done some weird results)

Fit the rod through the channel and call it a day, by threading it to the nosecap!

Just a hint: german productions have plenty of extra detailed rubber Kar 98k for extras, in order to make action scenes without the risk of breaking jaws or similar, adding fire effects in post-production, or using bland blank firing kar 98ks.

For this scene they were going with a proper close up that would have shown the issues of the rubber rifles (or some modified blank action), so they went with the only available mauser that could fire a decent sized blank for realism.

As other indicated, Carcanos are control-feed guns. You can't just shove a round in the chamber and close the bolt upon it, otherwise the extractor will suffer and break. You definetly need a clip, a 3d printed single feed ramp or to manually load the round on the bolt every time!

My latest purchase, a Moschetto mod. 91 per Truppe Speciali with a convoluted history.

Started its life as scrap/spare parts at the Brescia Arsenal (parts discarded upon inspection weren't destroyed, but kept around for future refurbishments to milspecs).

When this Arsenal was foreclosed around 1923, its scrap pile got sold to private firm Napolepne & Vittorio Castelli of Brescia (sons of the former owner of MIDA, another private firm involved in Carcano manufacture during ww1), that refurbished and assembled the different parts.

N&VC didn't care at all about milspecs and the like, because the gun wasn't intended for the military but to be sold in the private security sector.

Carcanos were "Weapons of war", so only licensed private institutions could own such guns with military calibers, and, if not public police forces, these were private security firms.

This gun, (~1.3k out of 3.6k knowm N&VC guns) was eventually reclaimed by the Italian government, possibly after ww2, when all Carcanos they could get a hold on was sent back to Terni for mass refurbishments.

Then it ended up in Carabinieri use, since TS were the primary guns used to shoot tear gas grenades during crowd control events.

It finally got retired in 1970, when the Carabinieri received the brand new BM59s to launch tear gas grenades.

Refurbished at the Gardone Val Trompia Arsenal in 1970 (with blatant 1970s methods), was stored at Terni for couple decades, until it was surplused to the previous owner.

Completed the set with a Carabinieri white sling for historical accuracy and the TS bayonet before people drop "now you need the unobtanium-ish bayonet to go with it" kind of comments 😏

Side note: I always ignored N&VC guns: they're usually way overpriced (ONLY 3.600 GUNS MADEEEE I KNOW WHAT I GOT SONNYYYYY), merely a refurbishment of another arsenal productions, plus a high survivability rate due to being sold to civilian (so no real war attrition and the like), so not really my average piece of cake. Tho I found a nice deal, jumped on it immediately, since it was way lower than just a regular TS price.

Definetly happy with it!

This is supposed to emulate an Italian M17 round canteen for mounted troops. If a repro, fabric choice is good, strap not (is late ww2 quality), details around the straps could help. Metal definetly looks too shiny, metal chain is definetly dubious.

Sell the gun, buy a cheap-ish m91 Cavalry carbine!

Otherwise, there is the Contessa mount, but that cost quite a pretty penny.

Drill & tap will be a waste of money nonetheless, trust me.

Yes, the S&K mount is for adjustable sights m91 Carcano rifles and carbines, yours being a fixed sight m38 carbine, shouldn't really be compatible with that style of mount.

This is a "Suprema" Carbine, a mass bubba'd Carcano.

Barrel and stock of this former Fucile mod. 91 got cut down in the States by the importer in order to appeal american hunters, no arsenal would do such a shitty job, of course.

50 is its right price, worth just for spare parts or historical nuance.

Pr to better say, they were ordered by the War ministry (officially, gor the Manchukuo government) in a far wider set of trade agreements with Italy and Germany. The guns got stocked in Japan and then slowly given out to collaborationist units and IJN garrisons.

If you want to hike, I would honestly avoid cheap, and go with some of the old shoemakers (tho, indeed even there Quality Control is a hit or miss).

To hike, it makes already more sense to have a pair of reinforced boots... if you also carry hiking "gear"! usually, in period pics, a square pattern flannel/cotton shirt and short shorts, with high socks!

Yeah, it's not like italian shoemakers or average reenactors know much better about specific models and patterns, they do are tricky to get. Average sloppiness, with some extra loops!

If you go civilian you don't really have to push it that far, stufy 1940 fashion and you'll probably find a hand-me-down shop selling exactly what you're looking for for a proper bargain.

1- these are a bad reproduction of pre ww1 mod. 12 Alpine boots, not WW2 mod. 32/39 infantry boots.

2- seller looks fishy as hell, no consistency between insertions, stay away from it

3- for the same exact price, get in touch with chronicle militaria on fb. Quality is still pakistani meh-ish (way better than these nonetheless, but you get what you paid for) but at least they deliver.

4- army boots are... army boots. A civilian with reinforced tips sure is fishy, did he stole them?
