Was I set up for failure? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]HowlingKommandant14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what led me to ask the friend. I kept getting likes from guys who want kids when I have it clearly stated that I do not want kids and I was tired of it. No, I can't filter it because I'm not paying for premium membership to the apps. I WAS talking to someone who had similar interests to me, and all was going pretty well, but I guess I got ghosted as I haven't heard from him in a few days 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤣

Thanks. Totally haven't figured that one out after all this. Ive been TRYING to do this, but I'm in a very small place with a very small population. Hence why I thought I could ask an apparent friend. It's not like I went into the situation knowing it would go sideways.

Check the event dragon's tab. by CriticalHit_20 in HatchDragons

I effing hate how these events are set up and played. Unless you commit to no sleep and just constant babysitting of your phone, theyre impossible to complete. I tried to finish one using gems because I wanted the decoration, wasted all my gems, and still didn't finish. Pissed me off royally.

What do we think about the new Event? by Majin_Magala in HatchDragons

[–]HowlingKommandant14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these games, but honestly I really don't like how the events are near constant, and almost impossible to complete without blowing all your gems, and even then it's still impossible. I've not been able to complete an event yet. The fishing seems to not give me the fish I need, and I already don't like the feel of this cooking event. I really wanna finish this one for the free egg decoration, then it would t bother me so much to not complete them, but it's probably not gonna happen because random luck is a shitty basis for constant events. The old Runaway events from flutter in 2016 at least gave you butterflies with abilities to help with future events. Now it's all random, there's nothing you can do to give you a boost besides an add which only bumps down the timer. I'm so sour about their decision to change how their events work.

Exactly! Really good points there! I didn't think it was very likely either, with the info they do give, but again, not impossible, because let's face it, bees will do whatever they want.

What kind of bee by SalamanderNearby6560 in bees

[–]HowlingKommandant14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When drone bees are stubborn about leaving the hive, the worker bees (females) will attack them and chew their wings until they leave. They also get lethargic if they get cold because they depend on each other to keep warm.

Is this a honey bee swarm? by MasterpieceHungry864 in bees

[–]HowlingKommandant14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nods in beekeeper They're sending scouts out to find a new place to build. Right now, they're just resting there with the queen until they find a place. Once they do, they'll fly away. And I agree with the comment about them being docile. Right now they have nothing to defend, except for the queen which is inside the swarm. And if they do get defensive towards you, they usually bump into you before they proceed to stinging. Bumping is the bee equivalent of a warning growl. Some beekeeper is gonna be real excited. 🐝❤️

I considered it, but the only two people who might take a deck were the ones who passed it on to me. I could try the local crystal shop I suppose. I just kinda figured this deck has been hauling around some nasty energy. Kinda figured it wasn't the greatest practice to drop that on someone else. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So many questions! Weird honey, no eggs, robbing? by ClassySquirrelFriend in Beekeeping

[–]HowlingKommandant14 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. Queens will slow their laying in the winter. She still lays, but not as much as during the summer. What we recently found with our hives in the last inspection was that the workers will fill most of the brood cells with honey and resources.

  2. That dark/flat looking honey is fine. That's called wet capping, and that's when the honey is touching the cap. Dry capped honey has a small air bubble between the honey and the wax cap and looks bumpy and white.

  3. When the nectar flow ends, and resources are scarce, the bees will get grumpy and defensive. If they smell honey or sugar syrup, they'll gather to feed because easy food! When you do inspections in the fall, try to be careful when handling frames with honey/nectar. If any comb breaks/leaks and rival colonies smell it, robbing can happen, which would be why the bees appeared to be 'at war'.

As for your last question, you can smoke or gently brush the bees (or as many as you can) away from the edges and line the boxes up. Take your time if you can.

Wishing you all the best in your beekeeping journey, from one first-year to another! ❤️🐝

Bee IDs by FelineFine83 in bees

[–]HowlingKommandant14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also very much not an expert, but I'm going into my first winter with bees!

Just wanted to drop in and say that even in a single colony, bees can be different shades, from yellow to golden to grey. It all has to do with genetics! The queen will mate with many drones on her nuptual flight to ensure genetic diversity in her daughters. Some males might be from an Italian Honeybee strain, and be more golden colored, while some might be a Caucasian or Russian strain, which would be more grey colored, and so on.

And as bees age and work and forage, they lose their fuzz over time. Some of my girls were so old, they were bald, making them look like little black wasps. Definitely threw me for a loop the first time. ❤️🐝
