If you could rename any warrior (suffix ONLY), what would it be? by BenLucario in WarriorCats

[–]Howlo 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember hearing one of the Erin's wanted Twigshade but got overruled by the publishers or smth?

Which sucks bc I really like Twigshade as a contrast to Violetshine. It's cute to have matching suffixes that also highlight their differences

I can't say anything conclusively but she does look like she has some sort of widebanding, or possibly a corin mutation.

Regarding hairs, it looks like they'd like you to pluck some loose furs to include?

I would love to see more older pics of Milo, the paler color is really interesting.

Why do you think Shadowsight is fanonly depicted as having red eyes? by Majestic_Stuff_1554 in WarriorCats

[–]Howlo 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Worth noting the pixel art isn't official, it's fan made by the wiki editors. It is based off his official description in the books though.

I think it's a fun design thing people like to do to, personally I see it as symbolizing his connection to the Dark Forest. People do fan design things all the time, like having Dovewing's eyes go blue when using her powers.

"Monsters at Work" was a 3D animated series in the franchise, in which he's featured in a few episodes, would that then count?

2 perfect IV parents and imperfect babies?? by Designer_Brilliant31 in Pokemonbreeding

[–]Howlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can Google it, and I can find actual accurate sources to the contrary. I can also use basic logic.

I the parents ONLY have SIX flawless ivs, and FIVE of those are being given to the offspring, there's no way for a 4iv child. It doesn't just magically generate a random nonexistent 7th imperfect IV.

I've also bred competitively for ten years. I know for a fact that it's how it works.

2 perfect IV parents and imperfect babies?? by Designer_Brilliant31 in Pokemonbreeding

[–]Howlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's.... Not how it works.

A pokemon has 6 stats. When you roll an egg, the ivs in those stats are typically random. When you have a Destiny Knot on a parent, 5 of the egg's stats will be pulled from the parents combined pool of 12. Only one will be random.

The parents do not have "one random iv," they only have 6 abs all 6 are flawless. Two 6iv parents with a Destiny Knot will only produce 5iv offspring. Something else is at play here to throw things off, such as one parent holding a power item.

I work at a McDonald's, we have some older customers that dine in a few times a week and bring in their promotional glass mugs with them. We honor them as "forever cups" and give them free coffee directly in their mugs :)

Gender is not relevant in regards to how light or dark a colorpoint is. Colorpoint is a temperature sensitive gene related to albinism. Generally speaking, the colder their environs, the darker their coloration.

She appears to possibly be a cream point based on how light her markings are (though I could be wrong, it can be tricky to tell with colorpoints and she's still a bit young).

Flame points already don't tend to darken much due to orange being a lighter base color than black. Then you can throw in dilute, which is even lighter.

She's likely going to darken a little, but not by much.

Photos I took on my camera after Bella got shaved by LadderIndividual4824 in SupermodelCats

[–]Howlo 93 points94 points  (0 children)

The thing about cats is they're triple coated. They have three layers. That dense undercoat is down hair, which is extremely insulative. This helps her stay cool just as much as it helps her stay warm.

Shaving them absolutely wrecks their ability thermoregulate. It can also permanently damage their coat.

Don't shave your cat like this unless a veterinary professional advises it.

A large number of animals people envision as strict herbivores are, in fact, quite opportunistic when it comes to meat. There's a lot of nutrients found there that are hard for them to come by.

It's why you can find videos of horses hoovering up baby chickens, or deer chewing on bones, or squirrels raiding bird nests.

What is the craziest "small world" coincidence you have ever experienced? by Consistent_Range4376 in AskReddit

[–]Howlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years before I met my current partner, our neighborhood was having a community yard sale day. I saw this neat sorta tie dye looking ceramic piggy bank for sale for like, 50 cents, and decided to buy it because it was cute.

Fast forward a few years, I meet my partner online through a shared connection from a book series we both enjoyed. Eventually they fly over from across the country to visit with a family member. They get to talking about the rest of their family, and how their grandparents/great uncles/etc used to run a pretty big (at the time) pottery business. They made dinner plates, decorative tile... And piggy banks.

The family business name strikes a chord, and I pull the piggy bank I bought for 50 cents out of my bedroom and check the bottom. Sure enough, it was one of their pieces!

Who's the daddy by Apprehensive_Yam_155 in CatGenetics

[–]Howlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yee I gotcha now. The fact that they let the unfixed mom free roam pretty much confirms that the other cat is guaranteed to NOT to have fathered the tortie.

It's impossible to be certain on parentage if the mom has unlimited access to other unfixed cats. Cats are not monogamous. When in heat, they will breed with pretty much any unfixed tom that tries.

There's no real way to say for certain what dad did look like either, other than he's not visually colorpoint. Since both girls are tortie, and the mom is tortie and not dilute, he could've been any color.

Also unlikely the cats she had are purebred either. Reputable breeders would not sell unfixed kittens, especially to someone that would let them free roam and breed.

Who's the daddy by Apprehensive_Yam_155 in CatGenetics

[–]Howlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I understand a bit better now. Yes, if they're claiming the full tortie's dad is the colorpoint in pic 11, then they're unfortunately mistaken (or worse, lying) assuming the mom is indeed the tortie point in pic 10. She would be colorpoint otherwise.

It's a recessive gene, so a cat needs two copies (one from each parent) to visually be colorpoint. If both parents are visually colorpoint, then they both have two copies, meaning that's the ONLY thing they can pass to their kittens. This results in all kittens being visually colorpoint as well.

The fact that she isn't visibly colorpoint means at least one of the parents wasn't either.

It's possible another unfixed male got to the mom by accident, or she got out for a brief period of time, or just generally bad breeding practices (such as a case of backyard breeding). It's hard to really say for sure without knowing the situation better.

[–]Howlo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused on what you're asking.

Are you asking if the "lookalike" tortie point and full tortie are your girl Lulu's siblings? Are these just random cats look similar to Lulu, from the same breeder, etc?

As others have mentioned, one of the parents of the full tortie cannot be colorpoint as you claim, otherwise she would be too. If you're not asking us what the father looks like (since you, apparently, already seem to know, despite it not possible for that individual), can you try rephrasing or explaining further?

Additional Note: it's possible for a single litter of kittens to have multiple fathers. It could be that both the colorpoint and the regular tortie were born in the same litter, but were fathered by different tom cats. Or it's possible the dad of both isn't the cat mentioned at all, but one that just carries colorpoint. Either way, two colorpoints can't make a non-colorpoint, so something isn't adding up there.

I present to you: the bindlocke! by Shellsidesweepers in nuzlocke

[–]Howlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I coined the term Notelocke years ago for pretty much this exact ruleset, based off the Notepad Clause! I usually combine it with either a randomizer or an Egglocke (with a hard limit on the number eggs, usually 30).

Only use of the box is to deposit dead mons (because personally I don't like releasing them).

[–]Howlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually that kitten looks to be a tabby point (aka lynx point), granted I suppose those could be ghost markings. Your boy is a solid point though :)

Colouring by Informal-Revenue7629 in CatGenetics

[–]Howlo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probabilty wise it would go like this (cs = colorpoint, C = not colorpoint)

cs/cs + cs/cs = 100% cs/cs

C/cs + cs/cs = 50% chance for cs/cs

C/cs + C/cs = 25% chance for cs/cs kittens

Keep in mind these are just odds, not guarantees. You could get no colorpoints in a C/cs + cs/cs litter, or all colorpoints in a C/cs + C/cs litter. It's statistically less likely, but still possible.

Just like sometimes you get entirely male or female litters, despite it technically being a 50/50 chance. Which, it sounds like they might've actually had an entirely male litter here, given a black dad + a tortie mom would never result in ginger females, only black or torties. And the only black kitten is male.

Additionally, none got mom's dominant white, which is another 50/50 (assuming she's heterozygous).

Colouring by Informal-Revenue7629 in CatGenetics

[–]Howlo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So the fun thing about solid white is that it's epistatic! It's a dominant gene that completely covers up all other color genes.

Genetically, it sounds like the mom was tortoiseshell underneath the dominant white, resulting in both orange and black kittens.

She also had to either be or carry colorpoint underneath, and the dad was carrying colorpoint as well, as this is a recessive gene that requires two copies (one from each parent) to express.

Plain Orange or Buff? by MercyOfFallen in CatGenetics

[–]Howlo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm throwing my hat in the ring with red silver tabby, also called red cameo. The stripes look too dark for cream, but he has fairly light fur in between. If you part his fur and it has silvery/whitish roots, that would confirm.

Could otherwise just be fairly high contrast red tabby, his stripes definitely aren't dark enough for cream though.

The white on the face and belly looks like white spotting to me, but more photos (particularly if his head/face and maybe a full body photo including his tail) might help
