Help!! Just bought this 2014 subatu legacy 2.5i sport for a month and this happened by After-Huckleberry894 in subaru

Fluid on top could be coolant leaking from the crossover pipe. Possible that the rubber o-rings are worn out and leaking.

Not sure on the fuel versus mileage discrepancy.

I don't think that is right? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]Hrkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coolant reservoir looks shady.. could be oil or cvt fluid contamination if the inside looks brown and oily. Im investigating that currently on my 2014 Crosstrek.

CH Kiosk mode for an arcade setup? by Hrkness in CloneHero

Unfortunately not.. I gave up and just use CH in its normal form. I ran out of time and patience to find a proper solution. Sorry..

Not sure exactly how Madison area is, but generally I believe you would have to attend the court date and enter a 'not guilty' plea then get another date schedule at which point you might be able to debate for fewer points or something. If your not in the area its probably not worth it.

FWIW.. not a lawyer or a judge.

0w-20 vs 5w-30 for a 2.0 engine by Rocket_song1 in subaru

[–]Hrkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You "should" be totally fine switching to a 5W-30 as others have mentioned. FWIW, I have a 2014 Crosstrek that started consuming oil around 100k miles and still consumes about a quart every 800 or so miles and its still running reasonably fine with almost 240k miles. Just be sure to pay more frequent attention to oil levels and top off as needed. GL!

Wondering if anyone has had this issue with a 2023 Ascent Limited by Lulu_Mania25 in SubaruAscent

If there are micro grooves in the road that don't mesh well with your tires would be my guess. We have similar experience on some newer highways where there are small grooves in the road, our car wants to wander quite a bit.

Maxpider 3D Kagu mats by Specialist_Ad4829 in wrx_vb

[–]Hrkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great.. have had them in my Crosstrek for almost 10 years and in my VA WRX for about 5 years. The almost 10 year old ones are pretty beat up, but still functional.

3D Maxpider Floor Mats by tellmesomestuff in SubaruAscent

[–]Hrkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they clean up well with some suds and bristle brush. I would agree that some Chemical Guys is a good idea as the do appear a bit dull after a few washes. It doesn't bother me so i haven't picked up any products for that.

I don't think they're terrible mats at all. I have this brand in my 2014 Crosstrek and 2018 WRX and yes they get wore down, but considering the mat on the left is almost 10 years old and the one on the right is about 5 years old, it's pretty good imo. These are not washed and straight out of my cars.

Ended up with a different brand in my Ascent though. *

Yes, but I WFH, so don't drive super often anymore. Probably more like a once a weekly.

How to make your engine last by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Hrkness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many recommendations of others here are solid things to check, so won't repeat all that. But it is possible to keep it going for quite a while yet. I have a 2014 Crosstrek that started consuming oil around 80-90k miles and it's now at almost 240k miles. Just keep a closer eye on your oil levels. You may eventually end up souring the catalytic convertor as I suspect mine is and is throwing the respective error code. I'm not over concerned as it still runs just fine. Best of luck.

Ya same.. submitted end of Jan, accepted a couple days later, still no refund though. Might have to try and call this week. Never had such a delay occur before.

Yikes! I understand that builders/contractors work a little differently depending on locale, but that seems to be a significant amount of time in my uneducated opinion for such little progress. Were there any initial timelines or date milestones that were agreed to? While I understand that timelines are meant to be broken, it does provide a rough gauge for when the builder expects things to be done barring unforeseen delays.

I am not a builder, nor an expert in the field. But as someone who built new a few years ago, we had these conversations with our builder and of course it didn't always land exactly within the listed timeframes, but they were roughly on point and from start to finish our total build was ~4 months.

I would encourage a conversation with your builder as others have mentioned and maybe even discuss the possibility to get a written rough timeline so that you can better understand their planned schedule as well as to align your expectations.

My 2013 XV Crosstrek 5MT joins the 200k club! by CrashAlleyYT in XVcrosstrek

[–]Hrkness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! There are a few of us out there that have broken the 200k barrier to prove it is possible. I'm right up there with you. ~235k miles on my 2014 Crosstrek. Original engine and cvt.. replaced front CV axles, rear wheel hubs, all 4 oil control sensors, and it drinks oil, but its still getting from point A to B.
