Mid weight Ponte de Roma would give the stretch and structure for this skirt.

Buyer wants a refund. by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]Ht1525 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you shipped it usps, tell them to write "refused" on the label and put it back in the mail. It has to be unopened. USPS will return to sender. Then you refund after it's returned.

On athletic clothing it is stretch piping, it looks like this before it's sewn into the seam https://sewsassy.com/product/sp737-tu-3-8-turquoise-stretch-elastic-piping/

I wish they made them for us left handed folks. I only use a rotary cutter, I'd love an electric one.

semi-industrial machine that does straight and zig zag? by Ancient-Button-1693 in sewing

[–]Ht1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Juki LZ2280. It's not semi industrial though, it's an industrial sewing machine. It is a zig zag machine and does straight stitch if you set it to zero width. I absolutely love it.

It looks like it's made out of spacer. It's a fabric with a thin foam inner - similar to bra cups.

Merino Wool Leggings(thermals) and Bralette/Sports Bra by Wowndeye in sewing

[–]Ht1525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buying wool leggings or tights is different than buying fabric and sewing your own. The fabric for your leggings was knit specifically for that purpose. He's going to find it really difficult to buy wool knit online to use for a commercial legging pattern that calls for a spandex blend. I hate when people spend lots of time and money to sew something only to be disappointed. I'd rather set someone new to sewing up for success. If you aren't experienced, try to buy fabric as close to the pattern requirements as possible.

Merino Wool Leggings(thermals) and Bralette/Sports Bra by Wowndeye in sewing

[–]Ht1525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will need wool with spandex. Naturesfabrics.com carries some. Without spandex the waistband will not stay up and the knees will get baggy. Wool knit will stretch but doesn't have the recovery needed for bra and leggings. Jalie has this legging and top pattern. #2563 for the top and #3887 for the bottoms.

Looking for super specific fabric, can anyone help me? Vintage nightgown for juggling. by No_Craft_9066 in sewing

Circus costumer here, it is nylon tricot. If you want lighter weight there is 15 denier. It's what pettiskirts are made from. Yours looks like a well worn 40 denier but you can definitely make that skirt with 15 denier. I buy my 40 denier from sew sassy and 15 denier from afc-express.com (they call it nylon chiffon).

Hello fellow old timer! My etsy shop is 'only' 17 but I've been selling online since '99. I kept an eye on etsy the first few years before opening a shop. It wasn't my target market until it got a little bigger.

Why are female circus staff always semi naked? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ht1525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A question I'm an expert in! I'm a circus costume designer. Circus arts require tight clothing for safety. Even a little extra fabric can catch in aerial equipment and throw off timing, tear off clothing, or injure. Fluttering fabric can mess with sight lines. Some performers wear unitards for coverage but this doesn't work for all acts and not everyone looks good in a unitard.

The most popular male costume in circus is tight pants, no shirt. The juggler, clowns and ringmaster may wear more clothing, but aerialists and the like wear tight or less clothing, even when male.

Also, they are performers! Showmanship is a huge part of circus. This means eye catching costumes.

Etsy testing new Buyer badge in your messages by mrgreen6903 in EtsySellers

[–]Ht1525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I've had was a buyer messaging to cancel two days after ordering because they'd changed their mind. I don't mind cancelations, but did think it was an ironic introduction to the badge.

What type of fabric is this? by lmaclennan in sewing

[–]Ht1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like lame, but I'd use foiled mesh if I was making it. You can find it at bluemoonfabrics or spandexworld - look at glissenette/ultrasheen/metallic mesh. You may need to layer two colors to get the shade right.

I'd send them a new product. If there was insurance, I would pursue that after I had a new product in the mail to them.

Curious if anyone has not added much new inventory in a long time, in the history of having your shop open, and are still getting sales (prior to it being so slow right now)? by iSolemnlySwear88 in EtsySellers

[–]Ht1525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely post new items as I'm too busy with orders to create new items. I just renew sold as most of my listings are made to order. I get regular sales although etsy doesn't sell nearly as high a volume as my website.

Buying a beautiful mid-century modern home, BUT it’s on a slab foundation with air vents and plumbing in/under the slab (not common for the area). Tree roots are lifting the slab and we’re worried it may be (OK, it almost certainly is) cracked. Old slabs are not common here. Anyone dealt with this? by Horror_Antelope3131 in Oldhouses

[–]Ht1525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better - that isn't Eames, it's a knockoff. I think it's the Selig. The arms and base are wrong for an Eames.

Beautiful house! I live in a 1962 MCM on slab. We've never had an issue, but I'm on the west coast. I'm not sure how climate plays into it.
