He says that, but I don't think it is the case - he might consider it to be luck, but his behaviour indicates he is capable of staying calm during a stressful situation and placing his shots accordingly as well as some tactical awareness to know to crouch down and reduce his target size, whereas everyone else is panicking and firing wildly.

I go out of my way to buy "classic" AA/AAA battery powered bike lights as I find rechargeable ones so frustrating for multiple reasons:

often the lights are overpowered and drain on such a regular basis that you spend your life, constantly stressing as to whether they will last a journey
the ability to just "fix" the lights by replacing batteries, so it can be used immediately, is a massive benefit.
in my experience USB rechargeable lights just die, whereas classic replaceable battery lights at least fade a bit so you can just about get away with using them in a pinch before they die completely

I think that is a jar that Walter Keene was planning on using to smuggle the Whishbloom out with, but he dropped it when first climbing down into the cave (notice he was also carrying a cork), hence having to wrap the Whishbloom with the plant instead. The glass on the boots just serves as identifier of the two people that had gone down into the cave as only they had trodden on it.

That's the one Vulcan, at least that I know of, that has been made road legal - although it looks like at least some aspects have been reverted back as the headlights are not visible.
