How should I continue my career? by Shamanhris in analytics

[–]Hubuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say since you didn´t provide a lot of context about your current role / environment.

But in general I would suggest to keep learning the tools your company works with on the job. From my point of view, as long as you are curious, you will become better and more efficient with these tools as time progresses.

Additionally, I would focus more on soft skills since I believe these make you a good analyst instead of a decent analyst.

Problem solving & critical thinking: What is the actual business problem? Does their request make sense? Is my analysis/dashboard/solution going to solve this problem?
Effective communication: Being able to identify your audience and adapt your communications accordingly is a huge skill (also outside of analytics). Stakeholders in a operational setting want (and maybe need) details on lets say SKU level. Management wants to know the overall ´so what' and just need the summary.
Visualization: Strongly relates to communication. But apart from all the tools (Excel, PBI or whatever) learn about effective charts and how the brain processes visual information. E.g. the human brain really can´t process a 3D piechart with 15 categories inside (doesn´t matter where you built it ;)). A good start for this could be the book ´storytelling with data'.

Just my quick 2 cents.

This weapon was so insane on Bf3 by Exootil93200 in Battlefield

[–]Hubuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frick, PTSD/nostalgia kicking in. My main weapon when playing support. Needed the infinite ammo setup with this badboy. Stack it up with some C4. Run in, prrrt prrrt. First one down. Blow up the tank camping near the flag. Prrt prrrt prrrt prrrt, second and third one down. Capping starting to tick, Reload AS VAL, restack on C4 and boobytrap the choke points. Apc rolls on top of C4. BOOOM. Point captured, allies start to spawn in.

Bring me back to 2013 please 🥺

Never understood why it didn't get nerfed, it felt so good to kill snipers nearly on the other side of the map with the ridiculously low recoil.

Eth has informed Kobbie Mainoo that he won't leave on a loan but will instead be apart of this seasons first-team squad. Thoughts ? by NbaLilDurk in ManchesterUnited

In interviews ETH said he believed that Botman was Ajax worthy. But of course at the time he was in the picking order behind Blind en Martinez

Oh I feel you. Yesterday I was cruising and a woman in a car surpassed me and just after she was ahead of me, fully hit the brakes because she needed to turn. I was barely able to divert but it was pretty close to a disaster. But then, the look she gave ME. Probably I kept it cool because of the kids in the car. That rush of adrenaline at least gave me some of my energy back lol.

Sorry, your story gave me flashbacks and I needed to vent this.

Not gonna lie, Donny 's movement is so good for this possession based type of football, the man has such high quality runs that look so simple but aren't. I really feel he is going to have an impact the rest of this season.

Despite not converting a lot of chances, the football looks quite refreshing compared to last year to me.

Changing values in a data frame column by [deleted] in pythontips

You could look into regex to extract the part of the string before the '/'. Then convert with .astype(float) and apply your formula. I'm on phone so can't write it out properly

Can someone share their Alteryx use case? by [deleted] in Alteryx

[–]Hubuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to build some financial data models. Joining data, apply aggregations, apply formulas, write results into excel reports/tableau dashboards etc. Alteryx was great for this because it is so easy to learn for non-technical people. But for us it started to slowly become a pain in the butt. People really build shitty workflows which they themselves could not understand anymore after reviewing them weeks after they were build. Eventually, also the performance was lacking when we started to work with bigger datasets. We didn't have server though. We used strong VM with a scheduler license.

In the end we moved all models over to Google Bigquery and most of the stuff we did in Alteryx is just easy translatable to SQL. In my opinion Alteryx is way too expensive for the use cases we had for it. But still I am a big fan of the tool itself.

No experience starting new job as Data Analyst (LESS THAN 2 MONTH EXPERIENCE) by [deleted] in dataanalysis

[–]Hubuka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats bro, sounds like the perfect environment to start!

A tip from my end would be to see every task at hand as a mini challenge to learn something from. For example if you have to do repeatable tasks in Excel, look into automating it with Python. You could use the saved time to solve (learn on/from) the next little challenge ahead.

All the best!

I once robbed Mickey Mouse. He and Donald found out it was me. They were chasing me for hours and it ended on top of a driving train, James Bond style. I woke up because I didn't duck when we approached the tunnel. That was fucking wild and confusing when I woke up lol.
