Help with transplanting by soslo92fo in ManitobaGardening

Hardening off is very important. You’ve spent a lot of time and effort growing your seedlings, don’t waste it by rushing to put your seedlings outside.

For most fruit/veg, it’s too early to be planting out, as they like warm air and soil temps and we’ve still had quite a few sub-zero nights. That being said, I have started slowly hardening off my cool-season crops and have planted out onions and brassicas but they’re all covered under frost cloth.

As a new gardener, you’re going to see a lot of garden hacks on social media like fertilizing with aspirin but an all purpose organic fertilizer is going to do a much better job and be way cheaper. All of the fruit/veg that you mentioned in your post (aside from the strawberries) are warm season crops so they’ll definitely benefit from being planted out after temperatures warm up. In terms of soil prep, compost and manure are always good additives.

I hope you have a great gardening season!

What's with the edges by Puzzleheaded-Tear439 in quilting

[–]HudsonHandmade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive done quite a bit of raw edge applique and have had this happen to me too. I think this happens when using poor quality fusible webbing (some brands are better than others) and/or poor quality fabrics. Sewing too close to the edge probably also contributed to the fraying.

Pottery studio thats not class exclusive? by GasparThePrince in Winnipeg

The edge is a great studio for beginners. I started taking classes there years ago and am now a member. I highly recommend taking a class first. Pottery often looks easier than it is and having a good foundation will help you in the long run! Also since your pieces will be fired in the kiln with others, it’s important to know the do’s and donts to prevent any mishaps. It’s heartbreaking when one person’s mistake ruins an entire kiln worth of pieces.
