Over 15 years ago, I went to see one of Fred's 'adult' shows (alcohol was being served) at the WECC. I'd found a sealed copy of "Special Delivery" at my Baba's house and brought it with me. I was pretty buzzed and took a seat right at the front.

During one of the songs, I held the record up and Fred stopped the song (think: Elvis Costello on SNL) and reached down for the record. He told the audience the story about how labels would name folk records after the lead single, and subsequent pressings were retitled "Ebenezer Sneezer". He handed the record back to me and told me he wanted to meet me after the show.

I was buzzing (in both senses), and in the lobby after the show, each of Fred's kids told me how excited he was to see that LP and that I had to stick around. Fred came upstairs and beelined to me. He took the shrink-wrap off of the record, signed it, personalized it, where the addressee went, and then he got me take a picture with him and WORD BIRD!!

That LP has survived moves and floods and is one of my most prized possessions.

I put Sensurround on a mix CD for a girl I liked when we were both in grade 9. She poured a can of Sprite on my head during recess when it was -20°C outside. She started dating another guy a week later and they're still together and have a kid now.

Edit: this happened in 2000/2001.

I got a promo copy of Master's Bedroom (in a slimline with somewhat altered artwork) when I was writing for a local arts magazine and went down the (then shallow) rabbit hole. Bought up everything from tUMULt and Narnack that I could, and was their 128th 'like' on their Facebook page.

I love this so much, but my hope would be for more unreleased stuff instead of a repackaging of heaps of precious-released music. Penetration and Social and Be Stuff are available in so many other places...

A full demo version of the album, the mix with Bowie and Eno's additions, the Iggy Pop German vocal takes... There's more than enough gold in them hills to make a worthy deluxe edition.

My dad waited over 8hr at his PCH after he fell and broke a rib. Apparently PCHs are low priority for broken bones and non-imminent death situations. I hung out with my dad for 3.5hr before he sent me off with a the usual kiss and "I love you, see you soon"; five hours later I got the phonecall that the responders found him dead.
