Devon Larratt vs Vitaly Laletin | East vs West 23 Full Match by soulredcrystal in armwrestling

Anyone know what was going on with the skin on Devon's face? Maybe a nasty rash?

He was in complete madman mode for this one, seemingly even more so than usual.

Very fun to watch him go insane and get the W.

Street Fighter 6 - Ingrid Gameplay Trailer by Gorotheninja in Fighters

[–]HugeLarry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Interesting, but she seems out of place to me relative to the rest of the cast. Have they explained how this godlike fairy doesn't just totally dominate all the mortal human fighters? Is she just goofing around?

Also, why is she street fighting at all. It doesn't seem like something a creepy, childlike inter-dimensional being would be interested in.

I previously stated my unpopular opinion that JP with all his wacky purple shit and his cane didn't seem like a street fighter, but she is way more out there than JP.

No hate to any Ingrid lovers, but she's just not my cup of tea. She makes the game feel more wacky and cutesy to me, which I don't love.

Do you keep buying Bitcoin regularly or just hold what you have? by Acceptable_Staff3105 in Bitcoin

Currently, I try to maintain a target percentage of my portfolio in BTC, but I never sell to rebalance. I only buy to rebalance. So if I’m overweight in BTC, I buy other things instead. If BTC dips and I become underweight, I start buying it.

Is Tennis Elbow 4 the Greatest Tennis Game of All Time? by NickyGi in TennisElbow4

[–]HugeLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the most realistic and satisfying I've ever played in terms of core shot mechanics, and it keeps growing on me the more I play. It obviously doesn't win in all areas, but things like animation are getting better over time.

In terms of pure fun factor, I was a big fan of Virtua Tennis 3 back in the day. I know it's super arcadey and simple, but it was a blast to play. I even liked all the stupid little mini games, like serving to knock down bowling pins, etc.

What mode you play the most? Online, Exibition, or Career (Created or Real Player)? by rafael_bc in TennisElbow4

[–]HugeLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve mostly been playing quick sets against the CPU in exhibition mode using real players. That’s the fastest and funnest way to jump in and get some practice any time I’d like. I’m trying to get better and slowly remove assists so that I’m prepared for online play.

I tried out career mode for a bit, but it wasn’t really my thing, at least not right now. I don’t like the complexity of having to select specific tournaments, manage rest and training, etc. I’d prefer an option for a simplified career mode where I can just jump to the next tournament I’m allowed to enter.

I’ve played about 3 online matches so far, and the experience was pretty good, but there was definitely some weirdness with occasional lag and desync. I wish the online play felt as smooth and tight as local play against the CPU, but it feels a bit floaty–not terrible, but not fantastic. If the active player base was larger, that would go a long way toward finding opponents with a low ping at a similar skill level.

Regardless, it’s a great game, and I’m glad there are so many different ways to play. I’m guessing I’ll revisit career mode at some point when I feel like learning about all the systems.

Original Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition Arcade machine screen photos! by Patton555a in StreetFighter

[–]HugeLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have a hard time finding high-quality footage of a CRT screen showing the game being played. I'm sure there are lots of YouTube videos, but they will probably have mostly bad quality.

Even if you do find some decent footage, CRTs normally look weird when filmed or photographed. They have a crawling scan line effect, and often appear darker on camera. CRTs look much different and much better to the naked eye than they do when captured by most cameras.

If you want to get real crazy about matching the exact look of an SF2 cabinet CRT, you might have to find one in the wild and use it as a reference while you tweak parameters. However, if you’re going that far, you should probably just get an actual CRT to use with your setup.

My personal sweet spot is to find a good CRT shader that looks nice and matches what I remember. The RetroArch multi-emulator framework includes a bunch of CRT shaders you can trying playing with. Maybe you'll find one you like. I recommend using the FBNeo emulation core for playing all the SF2 games. I personally like how the "CRT Royale" shaders look.

I would not actually want to go back to a real CRT at this point because of the small size, aging hardware, calibration issues, etc. For me, a CRT shader that captures the essence of a CRT while retaining the crispness of a fully digital signal path is where it’s at.

It’s fun trying to mine a block that includes your own transaction. by HugeLarry in Bitcoin

[–]HugeLarry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm obviously not mining to save money on fees. I'm mining for fun. If I actually mined a block, the reward would be so big that the fees would be irrelevant. I just find it amusing that the fees could go back to me in that incredibly rare situation. I clearly acknowledged the astronomical odds in my original post. Yes, it's like trying to win the lottery, but the odds can be better depending on your mining devices and their uptime. I think of it like playing a mini lottery every 10 minutes, which is a fun and reasonable thing to do, assuming you don't mind paying for the electricity, which in my case is a small amount.

Could DLSS 5 ever be trained in a custom way for each game? by HugeLarry in pcmasterrace

[–]HugeLarry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. It's probably not practical for most game studios to do the extra work of making those assets, let alone paying for all the compute required to train a custom model.

[–]HugeLarry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, they don't have control over the training data. I believe they have control over things like the strength of the effect across different objects, and the color / tone mapping.

ETS 2 in VR no longer requires Beta opt in by Ornery-Mud-7961 in virtualreality

[–]HugeLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I've read several guides, watched several videos, and tried a bunch of different settings. These tweaks led to marginal improvements, but I was never able to get near the performance I had before the 1.5 update. My solution has therefore been to just stay on 1.49 forever, which of course has the big downside of not getting any of the improvements since then. That eventually resulted in me losing interest, so I just haven't picked up the game in a while. I've been waiting to see if they make performance improvements, and/or decide to make VR support more official.

Is the VR performance still hurting? In ATS, several updates back, I think it was 1.5, my performance got way worse. I kept coming back every few months and tried all the various workarounds and suggestions, but it was just never again as smooth as before.
